- A Perth man's revealed the heartache of seeing his family torn apart by what he believes is an extremist cult. Matt Cook was raised in the "Exclusive Brethren" and was forced to leave because he was gay... he's bravely shared his story with 10 News First.

I left in 2020 when I turned 18 and I hope anyone like me who might be trapped in a similar situation realizes they are strong enough to leave
I'm an ex Jehovah Witness. I can relate a lot to that story...
I’m a former member of the brethren and my best friend is a previous jehovah witness and are childhoods were extremely similar

We now live in a world where is impossible to consider God the most important part of our life, people just do not understand it ...
They do NOT consider God the most important part of their lives. I grew up in this cult and it is nothing but brainwash and worship of the leader. He uses God as a way to control them. There is nothing holy about that place
I'm working with a guy from the church. He's targeted me. Ignores me, avoids me, trying to isolate me. He's super nice to everyone at work but me he's a horrible guy. Ever since he learnt I'm an independent, solo mum who says no women needs a man, pro abortion and pro vaccination andof no religion. You can tell he thinks I'm Evil. Man he is!
How do I deal with him?
Completely ignore him.
Wear bright colours & perfumes... talk about pop culture openly. And enjoy the outside world he shutters away from. 😁 live freely. Or wear a shirt w/ a bird on the outside of a bird cage....
But, Clare, whether you like it, or not, You Do Have a religion, "YOUR OWN BELIEFS, & Phylosophy, of life" My Family are in them in Tassie, they only mix with others of their own 'IDENTICAL' Beliefs ! They did not even come to little brother's Funeral ! Only the man, is the Head of The House, Wife has to tell him everything !
I say, you do have your own thoughts on life, cos, Like Chief Inspector Morse Of Oxford, (TV SHOW, 72;) he, like me are both devout Pagans.
Ignore him yet report his behaviour to HR re harassment and discrimination so they can keep an eye on him and take action where appropriate. ( if it is a brethren run business leave because you are never going to get support from management)
I would also look for a job elsewhere . If you feel unsafe leave.

Nonsense! The Bible says we were called into the church (one body) to have freedom not being chained with anything Col. 3:15-16. The bible serves as a guide for Christians to follow so that they won't break the principles of their salvation, not as law. The bible itself also says that the strength of sins is the law 1 Cor. 15: 56. Law is a devil trap to so many Christians and a workshop for tribulations. The more you begin to realize things, the better for you. The funniest part is that they should have used 'The Exclusive brethren' as the name not adding those tautologies words as Plymouth Brethren Christian Bible Gospel Church, The names are funny. Who are the Plymouth? Who are the brethren? Who are the Christians? Who are the Church? What are the differences between them? Please! Please! Go back to that Bible and rightly divide the word of truth that will lead to salvation from the way you think it should be (living beyond your life). Your doctrinal practices towards new testament principles is 30%. I can't even recommend the best enemy of mine to be a member there.

Perhaps we should look at the works of John Nelson Darby and the decision makers of the Church like Bruce Hales. I find the doco extremely empty and void of fact and lack of investigation into the truth and history here in Australia. God our creator sent His son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. He did this out of Love, not to condone sin but to forgive it for those who believe. We are all rife in sin , each and every one of us but we may not to condone it.
Love your children, help them , but don't excommunicate them. That to me is an abomination in itself.
Jesus also ate with publicans tax-collectors , and "sinners " -people who did not keep all the 638 Jewish Laws to the letter. , but the Brethren say one can only eat with fellow members.These male Exclusive Leaders , are mysoginists and male chauvinists. They are often rude , forceful characters , and put all male believers as well as female ones, who do not agree with their views,out of the meeting. These people are shunned or banned. and lose all contact with their families.
what happens if there is a fire or a emergy and someone has life threating injury's

I'm sorry but I do differ as I was withdrawn from a few days after my 18 birthday and I'm now 65 years old (messed up the first few years of my life after, but married with grown-up children and have wonderful grandchildren also a member of a local evangelical church who doesn't judge you but shows LOVE. )
I believe that the exclusive Plymouth Brethren is a cult as you do as you are told are told or you will be shut up and then withdrawn from with very little love shown to you. I think that one thing Jesus taught us is to love one another and I believe that LOVE is mentioned over 300 times in the bible.
@@Martin-rs6yx I'm so sorry to hear that, I too, am very messed up and only left 5 years ago but before that me and my family were out for 30 long years.....long story short I still love my brethren but sadly they follow a man rather than the Shepherd. I still don't call them a cult but I do think they are occupied too much with themselves to the exclusion of other Christians who are equally members of the body of Christ, they think of themselves more than the Lord. I think God is securing hearts individually especially in these last days. There sure is a lot to pray for....take courage brother the Lord is coming to take us home soon....

Sorry for that, But Let's just not call it a CULT, because it's a bad, hurtful word......Actually the Open & Exclusive brethren are from one Spiritual body - "Plymouth brethren", but due to the work of satan they got divided in 1848. From the early 1st century, the satan used to divide the Churches like in the Corinthian Church, he used to bring some disputes over a tiny little things and following it a great disaster happens, So just don't call it Cult but remember we all are the one universal body of Christ.
Even cults can be Christian; even the Pharisees were Jews.
