Big proponent of repros. It's nice to see your collection physically and getting that feeling from when you were a kid without paying high prices. Just makes zero sense for these old games. Only people who wasted hundreds on a cart or resellers and trying to protect the value of their collection care lol
Don't support repros, especially those making money off of community projects (i.e. fan translations). If you want to play on original hardware, get a flashcart.
The instruction manuals would be a proper PIA, but it almost seems like it would be better to get blank cartridges and and cases and print your own stickers and inserts. Then you would just need empty ROMs and something to flash them with (no idea what that entails but can't be that complicated). Rebuilding the Genesis collection I used to have with all the games I wanted but never aquired sounds really appealing to me.
I don’t buy Genesis/Mega Drive repros from Ali Express anymore, and I’d advise anyone with a model 1 console to avoid them as well. They are simply harsh on the cart slot. While not as bad on Model 2’s, I would profile the edges at a minimum. I’ve since purchased a few from sellers on Etsy here in the US - a few use donor OEM boards, while others use pretty high quality aftermarket boards that take EEPROMs. I also bought cases from Custom Game Cases, whose cover art is really good quality, and their cases look exactly like the originals, sans the Sega logo on them. I totally agree on the manuals though - they are decent quality. I bought repro manuals for the MUSHA and Gunstar Heroes repro carts that I bought a few years ago. My brother has the latter now, as I got a great deal on a legitimate complete copy about 6 months after I had bought that repro.
I don't see the point of reproduction cartridges...you might have something physically in your hand but its a fake, and you know its fake....whats the point of a collection of fake games...if you want to play the game you may as well just download it for free
Good on you wanting to help retro gamers on a budget. I understand the want to have physical copies of games, I mean, saying something like "Come check out my Mega Drive collection sometime bro, I've got hundreds of games." And all it is.... is a ever drive cart. Underwhelming. Personally speaking, I have had repros given to me for free and they either had chunky problematic PCBs that would damage the cart slot or the games were prone to crashing mid play... with a BSOD lol. I threw them all out. But yeah, I don't buy repros, but if that is someone's best route to feel like you own something tangible, NP!
You made some good points here. I bought some repros a few years ago and wasn’t happy with what I got. But the PCB I’ve seen lately are of a better quality and fit perfectly into the cartridge slot.
@@KenzGamesCollection I was looking to get into the Sega Genesis as i never had one before; the game are VERY expensive here so i was hoping to find some reproduction carts to get started since i picked up Model 1 gen recently. Do you know any sellers that sell more acceptable pcbs with a generally good standard of quality, or some seller on aliexpress? I am a bit clueless on where to start and i guess i want to start off on the right foot.

AMSR 🙏
I knew about Daze Before Christmas being exclusive to your territory. I beat that game last year and really enjoyed it. 🎅
Yeah it’s a good game Cam, it’s very much a collectors item but the prices are just insane.
are you agree with one of the comments stated that the sega mega drive repros from aliexpress are harsh on the cart slot
Yeah they can be from some sellers, I’m seeing some seller on AliExpress where Is isn’t as thick
@@KenzGamesCollectionbut not from the Fantasy World classic game store I guess, or else you wouldn't buy from them

That’s something I am looking into for a video, making my own games

Great job man
Thanks so much
DAZE BEFORE CHRISTMAS was also in NEW-ZEALAND /KIWILAND . i know this because I brought a copy bread-new in 1994 . for CHRISTMAS
I didn't know that but should have expected it to get a release in New Zealand

I get what you're saying and I agree as I just emulate older consoles but people can collect what they like, if it makes them happy I see no problem.
The pcb has the same bits and bytes. So how is that not the same? Might as well always emulate no matter what but it's fun to collect either way.
Funnily enough these weird boxes are 100% 90s bootleg nostalgia for me.
I wonder if they are made on the same factories with the same materials.
I think they would be

Do the games actually work the way they should?
Yeah, frank they actually do
It's not beveled so it's gonna ruin the pins in the Genesis.
I’ve found a seller that PCB are beveled
The discolor on the top of the cover is because of sunburn.
Yeah that’s what I thought but it hasn’t been in the sun
@@KenzGamesCollection light burn lol
By now there are far better quality mega drive repro's on Ali Express. These tiny PCB's with the plastic filler part glued on top of it are horrible.
Yeah there definitely better PCB on aliexpress now, the quality is so much better these days

Get a Sega Mega Everdrive. If you know how to use ROMs you won't regret it.
I hear that a lot about the Everdrive
it's not just Sega games...
I will be doing videos on SNES games also
If you’re buying 30 year old games on AliExpress, you know you’re buying a reproduction. I mean, come on.
well he did know, he went looking for a good quality reproduction
Yeah that’s what I was trying to do
