- In this video lesson, I describe all of the details of the VOR symbol on the VFR Sectional Aeronautical Chart. We cover topics such as identifying a VOR type by its symbol, identifying the elements of the VOR information box, how to communicate with a flight service station over a VOR, and everything else related to the VOR depiction on a sectional.
This lesson data is directly from the FAA Chart Users Guide.
Clearest explanation I've ever seen! Thank you!
Thank you for the video, very informative! Your great voice and diction makes it easier for everybody, especially for non-native speakers.
Thank you for making a video on something so specific. This is exactly what I was looking for!
After a 12 year hiatus, this is great information! Thank you!
Thank you so much.
No one explained like you did.
This is very professional explanation.
Easy and to the point. 👍🏻 Happy holidays 🎄
Im prepping for the privat pilots written exam and this is so helpful, Thanks
Thanks-your videos are always extremely helpful.
you have a voice for this, best aviation education videos online
Super concise and helpful! I love the internet
IMHO, both Will Liebhaber and Cyndy Hollman's aviation videos are the best you could find. They focus on clarity and excel at it.
Great video....informative and to the point
Thank you. The info given is clear. Very helpful.
Great explanation! Thank you for breaking down the small details. If you have a chance, could you explain the Dallas'FT. Worth International (DFW) navigational facility? The information box has a VORTAC symbol but there is a VOR/DME symbol next to the airport. Which one is the actual navigation facility for this airport? (FAA question)
Great tutor! Thank you a lot!!
Nicely explained.
xcellent video!
Is VOR compass rose always 20 nm diameter? It would make a great quick reference for gauging distances, like during diversions.
You are incorrect about the VOR pointing TO magnetic North. It points to where magnetic North WAS at the time the VOR was constructed unless it has been re-calibrated since that time (which is extremely unlikely due to having to change a multitude of intersections) otherwise this is an excellent presentation and I enjoy the calm and well-narrated presentation. The error between the current Magnetic North and the Arrow pointing to 360 or 0 on the compass rose is often referred to as declination.
Thanks for the reply. Charts and procedures are updated anytime magnetic variation for a VOR exceeds 3 degrees. There was a study to increase it to 5 degrees but I am not sure if it was implemented. Each time variation changes 3 (5?) degrees the VOR is recalibrated, airways and charts changed, and everything is flight checked. Tedious to say the least.
Also, some stations in areas of magnetic unreliabilty (such as northern Canada VORs may be oriented to True north. )
Do you have a series of instructional videos on sectionals? From beginner to advanced?
Hello, great video ... just one question... Why is the frequency underlined?
Means the frequency cannot send or receive voice communications
Compass rose is not always surrounded a VOR, for ex. RAL VOR doesn't have a compass rose.
You are correct, terminal VORs do not have a compass rose. A terminal VOR range limits its usefulness for navigation outside of the airport environment. I was speaking more as a tool to find VORs on a sectional that will be used for point-to-point navigation.
@@Klaviation Thanks for the prompt reply and explanation, I was asked once why RAL Riverside VOR doesn't have a compass rose
custer county cuz, crip vor! crip vor!
HIWAS is now discontinued.......
Very informative. Thanks!
