Ed, do you and Dan plan on doing a video of your favorite gear in every category? Being that you two review a ton of gear, I'd like to see what you two prefer for slings/fanny packs, day packs/backpacks, travel bags, etc and what kind of people you are: techy, outdoor person, urban, etc. If anyone else on the team has favorites, then toss them in the video too!

I have so hard time deciding between 16L and 22L, I love the idea of having fully waterproof bag, but I am worried I will hate opening and unrolling it every single time I want to take out something.

I’ve just bought the 22L bag and it’s definitely a good bag, in terms of construction, but not as packable as I was hoping for (compared to previous sack bags I’ve used). Just ordered the 16L to see if it’s any better though I’m worried that it will be too small.
One of the bags will have to be returned and a compromise will unfortunately have to be made. For context, I’m hoping to do some minimalist one bag travel with the “pakt backpack” as the main bag. The matador bag will serve as a day bag.
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do? I might be able to keep the 22L but something will have to be taken out of the pakt backpack which is only 30L.
I think this video really needed to show all the bags folded into their respective bags. I’ve found it’s not easy to wrap the 22L up and wrapped up it’s about the size of a toilet roll (not small enough to hand off the main pakt backpack).

what did you end up doing? For just city walking (not hiking) I'm wondering about optimal size 16, 18, 22 or 24. Also an occasional beach--but that wouldn't be frequent. Guess could also get a tote but wondering about the day packable options.

@@superseiyan Went for the 18l good for day use and very packable.

@@sulandelemere **Edited: Originally I had "18l" when I meant "16l."** I loved the 16l for a trip a few months ago, but I'm really tempted to also get the 22l (mostly just to have a bit more room). When you say the 22l didn't wrap up as well, did you mean that rolled up it's about the size of a "full" roll of toilet paper or just the empty roll? Compared to the 16l rolled up would you say the 22l is as much as TWICE as much volume rolled up? Thanks for your answers.....-Rob

I really miss the original 24L Freerain. It finally died and I ended up getting the 22L. I know the size difference between the two is only 2L but this newer version feels a lot smaller inside and is much bigger when packed up. Also the older version fit my laptop much better as this one isn't as wide. I know most people don't go backpacking with a laptop but this bag made a great every day carry during the rainy season when I left my main bag at the hotel.

Great content mate -- including how does it fit on your frame -- very helpful!! Thanks for the in depth review!

Seeing that the freerain22 and freefly16 packs down to basically the same size, a slight weight difference, would you opt for the larger capacity (+waterproofness) of the freerain rather than the freefly16 for day to day usage? I imagine the roll top would be a bit more burdensome to roll up and down just for quick access to the main compartment.

On the 28L bag, is the hip-belt removable??? Thanks!

I wish they would make a larger freefly, like 22 or 24l.

It sounds like you're looking for a bit more space in your backpack! The Matador Freefly 16L is known for its compact and lightweight design, perfect for minimalist adventures. However, if you need a bit more room for your gear, the Freerain 22L or 24L might offer the extra capacity you're seeking:)

I just bought one of these after my water bottle kept falling out of my previous packable pack.

My water bottle falls out of my 16l, but my bottle top has a loop, so I just run one of the bag buckles through it.

Man I was eyeing this bag before, but I don’t like the new version with its white mesh bottom. I preferred the sleek black look of the previous version. Oh well
