I have this pack and it is my go to for day hikes. I use one side for water bottle and the other for my poles. On the back I’ve attached my micro spikes and on the front my Garmin InReach. Plenty of space inside for rain pants, rain jacket, mid layers and food. For me the wire frame is just enough to provide the stability and comfort I need.
Can't say enough good things about this bag series. I have both the 18L and 28L. They are my personal item/ daypack of choice if I'm traveling and planning a hike during my trip. With the hipbelt and cord bungies removed, it doesn't look out of place in the city (particularly compared to other hiking pack options). But unlike other "packable" daypacks I don't think you sacrifice at all on features that make a comfortable carry. I first tested this on a 9 mile hike when it poured the whole way down from the summit and all my gear stayed dry and the fabric held up to the abrasion of tight squeezes. Gotta love those HUGE water bottle pockets too! My only negative is that I wish it had more organization but its not a deal breaker by any means.
Very interesting pack! Reminds me of the Arctyrex designs. I am using a Mystery Ranch In and Out as my pack away pack. It stuffs into its own attached pouch and barely takes up any room.
Hello. Thanks for your comment! The water bladder sleeve of the Matador Beast 28 Ultralight Technical Backpack is typically designed to hold a hydration reservoir rather than a laptop. While it may be spacious enough to fit a laptop, it’s not padded or secured the way a dedicated laptop compartment would be. For the safety of your laptop, especially if you’re carrying it frequently, it’s best to use a padded laptop compartment or a dedicated laptop sleeve. Cheers!
excellent review! One question....I have a 20" torso length, neck to hips...I see that Hyperlite has sm-med-lg sizes pending torso length...Matador just makes one size thus wondering how this will fit me cuz I rely a lot on waist belt to carry sometimes heavy photo gear.
I have a 19" torso and found the carry very comfortable. The packs are pretty tall (22" in length), but the extra height is at the top above the harness system rather than the bottom. Hope that helped
Very interesting bag, I'm looking for a packable daybag with some structure in it and this seems to do it. One question, would a Macbook Air M1 fit inside the hydration bladder pocket?
Mmm I'm not 100% sure on the hydration bladder dimensions. It definitely looks slimmer than a laptop sleeve so i'd say probably not. But if you're looking for a packable bag that can fit a laptop. I think the On-Grid series might be good to check out (less structure in those bags however). Hope that helps - Ed
Hi! We tested a 13.3" Macbook Air M1 and it did indeed fit! While the back panel is narrower than many laptops, we built gussets into the hydration sleeve so it can accommodate laptops even if they’re slightly wider than the back panel.
@@Matadorup love the waterproofing of the advanced series but I'm just a tad worried for the thorns in the tropic forests. Would you recommend the beast or the freerain for these type of situations. Or the UTS coating does enough?

@@RushfasterTV Yes, from Moment. The Moment x Alex Strohl. If possible, for the review try to pack it with tent, sleeping bag type of stuff and for camera compartment, use smaller mirrorless camera and not the 1dx you generally use. I will be Waiting for the review.

Say.. if the 28 isn’t packed full to the brim, would it still look good on body? Seems like the 28 gives more bang for the buck

Definitely matches up with their durable materials! In & Out is a great pack - Ed
Do you have this size bag available in a Sling style ?
I love mine. I keep my ar pistol in it. It's my hiking bag, it stores what I want is holds the weight so well, I don't feel it.
Awesome!
how much weight is comfortable for you to carry with it?
but if its packable.. isn't it less sturdy on your back which can make it uncomfortable to wear after long periods of time?
Could the water bladder sleeve hold a laptop?
