Driving Barefoot is Legal

  • Contrary to popular belief, driving barefoot is perfectly legal in all 50 states.
    You can find many articles online discussing this, such as the one below. There is a clear negative barefoot-bias in all of the articles though. The article below says that, "Bare feet may not have the same braking force" and "Bare feet may slip off the pedals more easily." which I think is ridiculous. I'm more sure footed when I drive barefoot, I can feel the pedal, pushing the pedals down isn't a problem, and I've never once had my feet slip off of the pedal. Driving barefoot is certainly better than driving with flip flops, high heels, or thick soled shoes which prevent you from being able to feel the pedals. I think that driving barefoot is far safer than driving with most of the shoes people wear.

    From firsthand experience, it also messes up your feet if you get into an accident. The brake pedal completely sheared off my big toe’s skin and it was very painful to deal with while in shock.

    I drive the tractors at farm, the forklifts at factory, my car and my motorbike and the snowbike always barefoot..no shoes no problems!!
