yeah and think of how poor Vietnam was back then, it's been dictated for thousands of years already. The only thing the vietnamese got for them was their high and conservative jungles and they used just that to fought THE USA, a massively huge country with modern weapons and hundreds upon thousands of soldiers. There was a book written by a Vietnamese general during the middle ages when China attempted to invade and conquer them. They used similar traps then and even sank a large portion of the imperial Chinese navy using hidden bamboo spikes on a beach where the ships attempted to land. They also made mines against helicopters. A crude four blade propeller made in... bambu, of course, was set in a probable landing zone and attached to a hand grenade ring by a wire. When approaching the ground to land, the downwash of the helicopter main rotor would spin the bambu propeller connected to the grenade, and after a few turns the propeller shaft would spool up the attached wire, pulling the ring and detonating the grenade, hitting the helicopter underside where in a UH-1 the fuel tank was located. I must agree that's quite imaginative indeed!

As a Vietnamese, I'm proud of my ancestors, the effort, determination and how much they love the country and never give up even when they're horribly tortured really made me respect them.
I'm proud of the fighting, the bones and blood sacrificed by my ancestors to give us peace. I love peace. Many people lost their lives protecting their homeland, while the attacking ones also pass away. So why start a war in the beginning? I know there are many reasons leading to a war but this war is kinda pointless. No one benefit. So please keep this world peaceful and don't let wars happen.
Vietnam has fought against China after 1000 years of invasion, fought agains the French army, the US invaders and then the Chinese invaders after Americans left. We fought to protect our homeland, not cause war. So why not just live in peace? That way, thousands of soldiers wouldn't have died!

There's another version of the door trap you didn't mention. This one instead of punji sticks it used the two-step viper. The way my grandfather told me is they would either nail or tie the two step to the top of the doorway that way when a US soldier would open it it would hit the snake angering them and they would immediately start trying to bite the US soldier. My grandfather told me about this as he encountered it on two separate occasions while he was in Vietnam. I found that out after I asked him why he was afraid and cautious to walk through his own door one day. Suffice to say I was a little disturbed by the answer but not surprised.

If counting from the invasion of the Qin Dynasty in the 3rd century BC to 1975, within 22 centuries, Vietnam had to conduct 15 resistance wars to protect the country and the time against foreign invaders was up to 12 centuries. Vietnam is currently one of the countries most heavily contaminated with landmines and mines in the world.
