      Blood Eagle223 this is only 2 years after release and you can hear it in his voice compared to the joe rogan podcast. his voice and temperament are so much more shaky comparatively

    Being left with a loaded weapon in that situation..there's no way I wouldn't take it. Being captive like that, suicide would have already become a viable option for someone like me. Michael is smarter than I am.

      mplsridah It was in the best interest of the pirates to take good care of him and not injure him because all they want is a 20M ransom. If they started to beat him up and feed him dog food his “price” would go down because he would’ve been half dead after a year.

      People tell you that you should get off the internet or don’t know the situation, it was just a thought. I hope you’re doing well, two years ago I was also suicidal and it took me awhile to be stable again, hope 2021 will be a good year for you :)

    This is the very first and only TED talk I've ever sat through in it's entirety 😳 I thoroughly enjoyed every moment and was a tad disappointed that it ended so abruptly 🤷 I can't say I sympathize or understand where he's coming from, however, I can identify with the difficulty of attempting to keep a sense of humor in the face of trauma, adversity, suffering and abuse at the hands of someone else 😮‍💨 I appreciate his sharing this experience 🙏✌️

    This is why I sometimes try to see the god in people even in dark times. People see it as a weakness, but really, it could be your weapon too.

      The funny thing is that he managed to forgive and have at least have some understanding of their faith even after the horrible things they did to him, while poeple who have probably never met a Muslim were bashing them for his kidnapping.

    It might say something that "thou shall not kill" in a war turns into "god bless the troops". With that kind of edict, you can't blame a bunch of pirates for picking what they believe.

    In such scenario you have to empathize the pirates as of what karma they are giving upon themself. And you genuinely give concern to their well being. Once Tibetan monk prisoner were captured by chinese govt for years for standing againts human right only thing he worried in that time was not his life rather he feared that he will lose compassion to guard as they are torturing him too bad. Yes he escaped and he is more than happy person now.

    Micheal with due respect, you conflating two different groups, Jihadists and Pirates, your kidnap wasn't motivated by Islam, but greed or sometimes by poverty. however, no religion justify your kidnap as long as you were innocent of a travel writer. I am sorry my fellow Somali abducted you. Your story, by the way, is amazing and very impartial at the least in the eyes of a victim like yourself. good speech, it really touched me!

    • @elkaotik6790
      @elkaotik6790 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think he ever collated the pirates with the jihadists, in fact he did the opposite. He said the leaders were not religious, but the guards were muslim. Many european pirates were christian too. He never said his kidnapping was motivated by islam. He just said his guards were muslim. There were MANY people who have done bad things that identify as christian.

    There Micheal I do understand you anger but I most admit when you say irrational world yeah in somalia there is no rationality and please dont relate or try to relate islam to what somalis does that pirates he perfectly understood what he was doing was crime and it was against islam even an islamic court would have hanges him somalis come from tough and harsh invironment there are no sympathy or compation the somalis murder one another daily to shed blood in somalia is unquestionable the worst crime committed in face of God we are lawless country where people do whatever that please them without fearing any consequence and remember if a man doesnt respect worldly law he would not have the discipline to respect Godly law that is why it is a complicated situation in somalia.
