  • There are glyphs written in various locations of Noita's vast world, revealing the deep lore of the game. Some of these glyphs only make their presence known when the player fills orb room basins with specific substances. In this video, I show all the known hidden orb room lore glyphs of Noita.

      I've given up trying to be good enough at the game to "beat it".

      @@michaelhenriksen7359 But a lot of these videos show there is infinitely more to the game than just beating it. @@ARUCARDFTEPES I completely agree. Just the fact that Alchemy is so complex (not as a gameplay mechanic, but as an aesthetic and as a core theme), That itself shows how deep the understanding of subtext and exploration the devs have, compared to 99% other games that uses "alchemy", where it's just a simple word for "poiton making".
      Anyways, when my brother plays this game, he always cheats, because to him, the challenge is not beating the game, or being good at it, but experiencing the games' secrets with your own eyes, as well as figuring it out, The goal of the game is to become an alchemist, "an impossible task".

    This is rather interesting... Magic and Nature are at war, which may explain why various magical creatures actively fight the creatures who use tech, or Are tech. Although, if we are an Agent of Magic, why would these magical creatures be against Us? Perhaps we aren't an agent of magic at all. Perhaps we are an individual who has learned to Manipulate magic, much in the way that many of the humanoids who use guns can use Wands. Perhaps we are working to use this magic, in order to complete a Machine, which would defy both Magic and Nature, by destroying what they had established and turning everything into Gold.
    Just some speculation here :P

      There are defects in the Magic side of the war, as per the Emerald Tablets:
      "Woe unto all ye fools!
      How ignorant are ye of this Art, for which ye would die if ye knew it!
      I swear to you that if kings were familiar with it,
      none of us would ever attain this thing.
      O how this nature changeth body into spirit!
      O how admirable is Nature, how she presides over all, and overcomes all."
      So Nature is also appealing to those from the ranks of Magic.

    • @theapexsurvivor9538
      @theapexsurvivor9538 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It seems that we're missing two or more sets of glyphs, and if I'm correct they would reveal that technology also argues about how things should be, so hybridisation occurs, magic fuses with nature (the magical creatures and undead), nature fuses with technology (the enemies wielding weapons), and magic fuses with technology (the machines with souls and wands). They also all fuse in the alchemists, The Work, and Minä.
      The game seems to hint that to know only a portion is no better than knowing nothing, and aside from the corrupted alchemists, and (debatably) the final boss, there are no enemies which embody all 3 spheres of knowledge, so it could be that the reason they attack us is out of ignorance, while the alchemists and boss are doing it because they have souls of mud and do not desire the work to be completed.

    • @williambarnes5023
      @williambarnes5023 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Knowing only a portion is WORSE than knowing nothing. When you find essences and orbs, it's a big long trek and your reward is shooting acid or light or exploding and killing yourself. Only getting them all has any benefit, and that's if you can even survive having them. Having a few is actively detrimental.

    • @TheAstyanii

      The Mage is a perversion of all three, and condemned by all three. Though born by Nature, we seek to use Technology to control Magic. Beasts of Nature use tooth and claw. Beasts of Magic need no device to call upon their elements. Beasts of Technology need only to use what is, not what isn't. Our wands and alchemy are both symbols of this perversion. However, what does the Mage seek?
      A novice Mage will take knowledge they find, and sacrifice it for paltry sums of wealth. However, showing the Gods that one has found too much knowledge causes them to send monstrosities instead of wealth, as the novice may have learned too much and must be dealt with. A foolish Mage will delve into the depths, fight the dragon, and find their end to be terribly hollow. A dangerous Mage will seek to apply the knowledge they find, stealing ever more secrets of Magic until they become like the Gods themselves.

      Have you read the Emerald tablets?
      "Among those who devote themselves to the transmutation of metals,
      however, there can be no such thing as mediocrity of attainment. A person who studies this Art, must have either everything or nothing. An Alchemist who knows only half their craft, reaps nothing but disappointment and waste of time and money; moreover, they lay themselves open to the mockery of those who despise our Art. Those, indeed, who succeed in reaching the goal of the Magistery, have not only infinite riches, but the means of continued life and health. Hence it is the most popular of all pursuits."

      @@Cyberw4y Also in another tablet, "The definition of death is the disjunction of the composite,
      but there is no disjunction of that which is simple"
      Perhaps the gold transmutation is some perverted idea of immortality? My other guess is that the self-transmutation is accidental.

    The first extant mention of Väinämöinen in literature is in a list of Tavastian gods by Mikael Agricola in 1551. He and other writers described Väinämöinen as the god of chants, songs and poetry; in many stories Väinämöinen was the central figure at the birth of the world. The Karelian national epic, the Kalevala, tells of his birth in the course of a creation story in its opening sections. This myth has elements of creation from chaos and from a cosmic egg, as well as of earth diver creation.
    At first there were only primal waters and Sky. But Sky also had a daughter named Ilmatar. One day, seeking a resting place, Ilmatar descended to the waters. There she swam and floated for 700 years until she noticed a beautiful bird also searching for a resting place. Ilmatar raised her knee towards the bird so it could land, which it did. The bird then laid six eggs made of gold and one made of iron. As the bird incubated her eggs Ilmatar's knee grew warmer and warmer. Eventually she began to be burned by the heat and responded by moving her leg. This motion dislodged the eggs, which then fell and shattered in the waters. Land was formed from the lower part of one of the eggshells, while sky formed from the top. The egg whites turned into the moon and stars, and the yolk became the sun.
    Ilmatar continued to float in the waters for several hundred years, admiring the results of these events, but she could not resist an urge to continue creation. Her footprints became pools for fish, and simply by pointing she created contours in the land. In this way she made all that is. Then one day she gave birth to Väinämöinen, the first man, whose father was the sea. Väinämöinen swam off until he found land, but the land was barren, so he asked the Great Bear in the sky for help. A boy carrying seeds was sent down to him, and this boy spread plant life across the land.[2] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%A4in%C3%A4m%C3%B6inen

    I wonder if the three endings are related to the three gods.
    Technology is in The Work where you place the Salt gear.
    The floating island could be Nature's alter.
    The Moon might be Magic?
    All of which reward you with infinite gold. I haven't actually played, but I've watched enough to know there are at least 3 ways to turn the whole world to gold, minus ludicrous amounts of Draught of Midas.

    The antagonism between magic and technology is a modern trope. Many ancient peoples, including the ancestors of today's Finns, rather believed that technology was a form of magic. In the old Finnic poetry, the blacksmith Ilmarinen and the shaman Väinämöinen often co-operated, and similar supernatural qualities were ascribed to both.
    Nevertheless, it's great to see a game use Finnic mythology to deepen its background story.

    My current theory about the end of the game is that the player does not know what they are doing. They come across an ancient alchemical artifact and decide to insert it into a slot in a giant machine.
    Alchemy is likely a mixture of technology and magic, so another possibility is that the player has come to this land to weponize alchemy against nature. By turning the world to gold they defeat nature.

    My reading of it is that this myth is an examination of the human tendency to attribute meaning to things. Mud is already mud, but it our *distaste* for mud that causes us to percieve it as fetid or . . .inefficient? Maybe that's a translational thing. It's interesting that Technology is suggested to *coexist* with Nature, rather than be at odds with it. It's also interesting that, if Nature represents rules, Magic *is a part of Nature.* The substances you experiment with in-game, the way your spells are constructed, are all governed by rules, and if you know the rules, the process is predictable. In fact, taking advantage of those rules to create new and useful things represents the way your character utilizes Technology within the game, too.
    A little bit of a ramble, but I find the meta-narrative of this bit of lore really interesting.

      Yup. The Discord server. All of these are actually Finnish, so translation is fairly easy. There are other glyphs that are encoded and the in-game alphabet had to first be decoded to understand. Here's a reddit thread showing the decoded language - www.reddit.com/r/noita/comments/daupb0/the_secret_rune_alphabet_decoded_this_is_what_the/

    I don't understand how people discover these secrets. Like who came up with the idea of somehow filling the right pools in the right place with snow and sand to see the glyphs and then being able to tell what they're all about? I'm struggling to get past a couple of levels without dying and have serious doubts of being able to discover any secrets on my own.

And WHY the boss is just WAITING for you to come and sort of start the battle, to then, upon it's death, drop an important part of that said machine so you can do what "must be done", i guess? Nothing about this makes sence to me.
    Not just this stuff, though, but also who " created" the character we play as? The character is sort of as clueless as we are, isn't it?

    Are there any other orb rooms? I mean, I know there’s more orbs, and at least one of them is in a room, right? Like the one in the area under the boss?
    There’s plenty of materials to use still too!

    • @FuryForged
      @FuryForged  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The previous Noita video I made actually shows every emerald tablet and orb in the game right now. And, yeah, there could possibly be more lore glyphs at 4 different orb rooms - the Sand Cave, the second Vault, the second fungal caverns west of the Underground Jungle/Vault and then finally the one in hell.
      The creation story told in the glyphs I show in this video seems to be fairly complete, except maybe the end, but I'm hoping that more orb room glyphs are discovered, since that's a lot of basins and we do have a lot more materials to fill them with.
      Other than these, though, there are actually a lot more glyphs in random locations already written on the walls, especially an enormous passage written right at the top of hell.
