My favorite bit about this song is seeing fancam footage of it being played live and hearing the audience sing along with the "Far away" line. Magical.
This album was a real achievement for Kanami. The songwriting is on another level although on this particular song, she got her bandmates highly involved in the writing at the beginning, asking them to each contribute a part. Miku's lyrics are also amazing as are the vocal arrangements through the whole album. By the way, Kanami usually (always?) plays all the guitar parts in the studio. Miku has a full schedule with lyrics, vocals arrangement and recording, promotion, and sometimes other projects. She's still learning and can use the extra time to work up her rhythm parts for live performances. Miku and Kanami seem to be the busiest of the maids. They must be workaholics. Of course, the others may have side project I don't know about.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for not stopping immediately after the solo and thus experiencing being thrown off a cliff and caught by an angel. One of the most beautiful moments in modern music.
Nittpicc you are just a shade less adorable than the Mighty Kawaii Miku Kobato herself! Excellent reaction to an excellent song! You are, as I predicted you would be, one of the top reactors on youtube. Love the look! Keep on doing the work of the angels!
Hammer-on is when you "hammer" one of your fret hand fingers onto the string causing a note to sound. Pull-off is when you pull a fret hand finger off the string, causing the lower fretted note to sound. Tapping is when you tap a finger from your pick hand onto the string to sound a note. Kanami is doing a combination of all three for the technique used in this song.
That's what I always understood, but some others have said slightly different things. Hammer on makes the note sound with your left hand striking the string, pull off is your left hand releasing the string. Tapping is the same actions but with the right hand. You can fret with the left hand and pull off with the right hand. I would call that tapping but I suppose it's debatable.
@@surfingasongwave You're correct. You can pull-off with either hand. People generally call the whole process "tapping" as a short hand, but it's technically a combination of all three.

It's an Eddie Van Halen signature move, among many others. Love, love, love your reactions, by the way!

PrincessNittPicc, I like the new do! It looks great! This is always a great song to react to. As far as I'm concerned, the Maids do no wrong! They defy genre in their music. We long term fans just call their music Band-Maid Music. This "pigeon-hole" is so much fun to explore. Thanks for your reaction.
Thanks for the reaction. Blooming is a top tier song from them. Incidentally, it used to drive me crazy when you said Saike and Kaname. Thanks for the adjustment. Reading romanized Japanese is much easier when you realize the vowels are the same as in Spanish.
Their composition is so good. Like you said, taking a theme and then developing it. Using it to build tension, then releasing it in such a euphoric way. Taking a sound stage and a bunch of light tubes and making such a creative music video! Meshing everything together in such a tight and compact way. They are so good!
Welcome home Princess NittPicc! I hope you are having a wonderful Band Maid Sunday! This song is a great example of Band Maid doing Band Maid things, and just kind of inventing new genres or mixing several existing genres. I like your twin tails too! Please take very good care of yourself and have an amazing week. I'm looking forward to your next Band Maid Sunday.
Yeah Nittpicc! I have very much enjoyed your reactions. If you like your Band-Maid with a bit of punk slant, i suggest checking out 'Alone'. It's an older song and significant in Band-Maid lore in that it was the first fully Band-Maid written and arranged song their label at the time let them record. It contains, to this day, one of my favorite Kanami solos. It's also Akane at her finest. Oh, in Blooming, is it hammer-ons or tapping? It's both. Simultaneously. It's Kanami. Can't wait for the next one!
Hey NittPic! Love the twintails! 🙂 I was talking to someone about Band-Maid a while ago and they couldn't remember the name of this song and they said, "You know! The song with the lightsabres!"
This is TOTAL perfection in Kanami's writing !!!!!!! It took me several listens to actually fully comprehend this song. Just the amount of rhythm changes in this song blew me away !!!! Can you imagine how many hours that were put in to get this song down ? Im just so glad that with your musical background you can fully appreciate the quality level this band has.
I liked this song even at first, but it has really grown on me. I really like the part when they slow it down - right after Kanami's solo ("Go far away take me somewhere far away!') and then slowly pick up the pace again. But I really love those under lyrics of "go far away, take me somewhere far away" and how they are sung. It's just so beautiful and hits the heart just right.
The lyrics painting a picture and the beautiful harmonizing. Kanami showing all the talent that ten years later we all know and love. This song is beautiful and pure Rock n Roll, pure band-maid. More punk-maid? Try Rinne. Love watching your journey with BM.
Kanami goes full guitar hero on this track. Takes me back to 1986 and all of the great guitar players of that era. If she would have played this solo then, she would have been ranked up there with all the great shredders of the time. Love the Maids!!
Genre, shmenre, Band Maid is it's own genre of music. They have taken all the classic rock "tropes" and made them their own. With each member adding their part making the whole enchilada, well, it's a wonderful thing.
This, at least for me, is the perfect rock song and still my 2nd favorite Band-Maid song ever. Perfectly composed and executed from start to finish, everything just fits so absolute flawlessly 🙂
Quintessential Band-Maid right here. "Blooming" has it ALL. All five Maids have the pedal smashed to the floor. Speaking of which, it is advised that you NOT drive while listening to it. Also, I heard that a certain 810-year-old Pigeon is very pleased with your hair choices and hopes that you take the plunge into the world of technicolor tails. Thanks NittPicc! Awesome as usual. 🕊
Many of the early Maid songs and albums have strong punk elements to them. Great fun and others have already pointed out. The harmonies and the style of Band Maid that we still love today are clear in songs like this.
Band Maid Sunday with Nitt Picc? 🤔 count me in! Great reaction to a great song. Been a guitarist most of my life, and I can assure you, Kanami is a once in a life time phenomenon. As is the whole band, they truly are a miracle.
One of my absolute favorites. It’s a showcase of everyone’s talents, and Kanami really shines with those two completely different solos. Also an amateur guitarist, but my understanding is hammer-on is doing it with your fretting hand while tapping is doing it with your picking hand, still holding a fret with your fretting hand.
Tapping is a technique that consists of hammer-ons and pull-offs. When you do them together it's tapping and what Kanami does is two hand tapping and is something that is beyond my feeble guitar skills.
right, and also, to one of the questions she asked in this video specifically, while tapping is primarily used on guitar, it is possible to do on the bass (which is different than Slap) though its really not common given the supporting role bass is usually relegated to.
Probably feels more natural for a pianist like Kanami. I find the whole "you're just selecting the note and activating it" mindset (which admittedly is one action instead of two on piano vs. guitar/bass) is key to being able to play MISA's bass lines. Although being younger and thus faster is the other half. )
There is one live from Band Maid where MISA and Kanami played tapping before the actual music began.. I will not be able to find because I don't know the name of the music they played after. but somebody will know, I am sure.
NittPicc, YOU'RE RIGHT, Band-Maid's style is mainly punk rock, not metal, in fact Akane has always reminded me of the great Clem Burke from BLONDIE. OK, it's true, the girls use elements of metal, but also pop, funk, jazz, prog... and if you listen to their live acoustics, even American folk. About Saiki, she is an excellent singer, but since the first times I listen to her, what I was most impressed with was her fast phrasing. Great reaction.👍
NP, notice you barely see Saiki and Miku's faces. And you don't see the triumvirates faces at all. Just listen to the music. This will always be a top top tier song for me. Peace. 12.4
Don't waste a second thinking about genres. Kanami was once approached by a genre, but said to it "Be gone with thee, or I farte in your general direction!" This song is once of their coolest compositions, and a real showcase for Akane's masterful and creative drumming. Patterns? Ha! You never know what she's going to do or what beat she'll accent but it's perfect. And the structure from that killer solo all the way to the end is in my view something that you'd find in Beethoven, where themes that have been introduced throughout come together and weave this amazing tapestry that builds in intensity and awesomeness right up to that grand finale that says "the end of the song is coming, are you ready?"
The basic difference between the "hammer-on" technique and the tapping technique is that a "hammer-on" note is ONLY played with the fretting hand by striking hard at the position of the note, and is HELD for the duration of the note (rather than the string being fretted and then picked). With this technique, the strings can be bent after the note is struck in order to pitch the note up. The "tapping" technique simply involves the striking of the string hard enough to produce the note appearing at that point on the string (essentially treating your fingers like the hammers of a piano), and you can therefore use the fingers of BOTH hands; the duration of notes would be determined by either the manual termination of the string's vibration or the tapping of the next note on that string.
They're both exactly the same thing, it's just that with tapping you're using your picking hand. Either way it's the same physical motion of pressing down at a point on the string hard enough to create vibration - the string doesn't care which hand you're using!
Tapping, Po! Hammer-on's can be assisted by the plucking hand (what do I know, I play bass!). Btw, bass can do the same but are usually known for slapping. Saiki is just not breathing because she has to get all of Miku's lyrics in the given measure, lol! One of my top 3 BM songs, Po! 🦍🍌PS, the interesting thing about this MV is that I think they were still in the "we can really play the instruments" phase, as many still were thinking they were "Milli, Vanilli'n" their playing. You really only see Saiki and Miku's faces near the end of the MV, Po!
Hammer-ons are what kanami's left hand is doing on the guitar neck. Tapping is when kanami uses her right hand(picking) to "tap" the notes on the guitar neck. In that solo section, she is using both hammer ons AND tapping.
You'll probably catch some flak for saying Saiki is rapping, lol. It seems to be a sore subject with some of the fans.😅 Apparently what she's doing in this song has something to do with the Japanese language & different syllable phrasing... I don't remember the exact details but it's like to a Japanese speaking person it sounds normal, but to an English speaking ear it sounds fast & rapping...? Now for a song that Saiki has a legit rap section, I recommend Influencer. 🤘
It's definitely way too fast for Japanese speaker, and most people can't do what she does. She adopted some hip-hop technique in Corallium and rapping in Influencer and more songs. But imo what she did in glory and blooming was more rhythmically convoluted. That's why I think she's also part of Band-Maid's rhythm section.
Finally!!!! I was expecting the reaction to this song. Wonderful as always. The T-shirt you mentioned should say "Band-maid doing Band-maid things" another reactor called Chase Carneson says that all the time and in my opinion, there isn't any other way to describe it. Keep on the good work. I love and enjoy your videos :D
I think the best punk song they do is "Be OK," it is my favorite song. The live video is really cool. They are so young, and everyone is headbanging in this tiny club.
Great reaction as usual! This song has always reminded me of a cross between Blink 182 and Black Sabbath lol. And that guitar solo is and absolute masterpiece with those galloping drums as a compliment. Pure S-Tier. Rock on 🤘
Band-Maid has the strong punk vein in their gene. You'll hear the element in so many songs. Depending on what genre you're into, you'll hear different things too. To me it sounds post-punk pop rock, hard rock, disco hi hat, bouncy rap perfectly fused.
A "hammer on" is done with both hands in normal position typically, where a note is plucked then the player ... without plucking the string again, "hammers on" to a higher note on the same string. You CAN play many notes via one strike to the string by hammering on then pulling off a single string. Tapping is a technique with both hands over the fretboard ... while using your normal fretting hand to play a succession of notes while hammering on and pulling off (tapping) with your picking hand up on the frets. It allows for notes to be played that would not be normally reached with a single fretting hand or with a standard hammer on pull off technique, by using the extra finger to "tap" on a string producing a note.
This is not only my favourite Band Maid song but it's also just a masterpiece of music. I was nearly in tears of joy the first time I heard that crescendo and sudden drop off coming out of Kanami's solo section. Band Maid ❤
So, tapping is with the picking hand, hammer-ons are with the fretting hand, but it's basically the same thing. Pull-offs are called that with both hands. And the reason it's called differently depending on the hand, is because hammer-ons are used for legato lines, and you don't do legato with the picking hand, cause it's called tapping :p did i make it more confusing? I hope not. Cheers! And i will suggest "Balance" for the next song!
Thank you! This is one of my top 130 Band-Maid songs! Yes MISA is never just keeping the beat. She's so impressive. The harmonies are over the top and the drums, well it is Akane, so... Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things!
I remember Band-Maid debut and they clearly were promoted as "HR/HM" (a blend of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal), so I don't think you were wrong in that assumption. Sure they don't make metal like a metal band (Lovebites, Nemophila, etc.) but they use a lot of metal elements.
Blooming was the first song I ever heard of Band-Maid, so thank you for this reaction! Lovely, as always. ❤ Saiki is very versatile and she does "rap" some in their song Influencer 😉
This is top-tier BAND-MAID for me. It has absolutely everything, with one amazing moment after another, yet somehow feels lean and efficient. Probably the best song to introduce newbies.
Have you been doing this every Sunday? I haven't seen you for a while. Have you watched HATE? from Yokahama Arena yet? If you haven't Misa and Kanami go off in a battle you might get a kick out of. BLOOMING is really sort of one of those departure songs Band Maid does. Enjoy your reactions.
@@lordvorador5735 Yes, but, as you mentioned, Yokahama is a much better recording and a much better experience and actually just slightly different. I thought Lalapalooza was great and then I heard Yokahama and was REALLY blown out of the water. It's also much more precise than Lalapalooza. Thanks for your input, always nice to talk to another Band Maid fan.
Kanami's overall composition + the same level of individual composition from the other four is probably what makes Band-Maid not just better in one way, but really different from a lot of other bands. BTW Nitt, you know how some guitarists will talk about learning a classical violin part to get outside the usual guitar box? Maybe you should do a flute cover of a MISA bassline 😮
Great reaction … again … you are fast becoming one of my favorite reactors. You caught so many things that other reactors overlook. Like Akane doing a short rim-shot transition. Like Saiki creating a new singing-style sounding like Japanese-rock-rap? Oh, and the beautiful harmonies of Saiki and Miku over a tsunami of sound with Kanami soloing, Akane doing what she always does. And MISA being MISA. Who on this planet is better than Band-Maid? NO ONE! Thanks again for the happy reaction … happiness is infectious! I love Band-Maid❤

It's just so beautiful and hits the heart just right.
great again NittPicc.
The twin tails..
Fantastic

*BAND MAID* ...
Fantastic
Have a fantastic Sunday yourself 😊
🤘😀🤘
My favorite! Thanks for continuing to check out BAND-MAID!
Top 5 Band-Maid song on my list.
top 10 for moi! ♥
Tapping is a technique that consists of hammer-ons and pull-offs. When you do them together it's tapping and what Kanami does is two hand tapping and is something that is beyond my feeble guitar skills.
I’ve posted this before, but either it wasn’t read or there was a miscommunication somewhere.
right, and also, to one of the questions she asked in this video specifically, while tapping is primarily used on guitar, it is possible to do on the bass (which is different than Slap) though its really not common given the supporting role bass is usually relegated to.
@@wanderleyjesus6772 it's the intro to Clang. If you search for Misa Greatest Bassist you'll see it
Haven't even watched the raction and I'm already so happy. This is going to be so fun to watch. Blooming hooked me.
This is one of BAND-MAID's most perfect songs, and one of my favorites. I wish they'd play it live more often!
This song was featured in the movie KATE which I think you now know ... along with CHOOSE ME ... I think you know what you need to do now :p .
Twin tails, nice👍💜 A common phrase among maidiacs 'BM doing BM things', coined by another reactor (Hey Chase)🤟
Misa is always playing a different song or a 4 minute solo that just somehow works... I don't question it anymore. I just enjoy what she's doing.
Your bangs summoned up a banger!
Band-Maid. Blooming Brilliant! You too, Ms Picc! 🤘😉
NP, notice you barely see Saiki and Miku's faces. And you don't see the triumvirates faces at all. Just listen to the music. This will always be a top top tier song for me. Peace. 12.4
The video unfurls like a flower blooming.
I subscribed a while ago because of your infectious personality and musical knowledge but I WILL return for the bangs and pigtails 😍🤘✌
Hammer-ons are what kanami's left hand is doing on the guitar neck.
Tapping is when kanami uses her right hand(picking) to "tap" the notes on the guitar neck.
In that solo section, she is using both hammer ons AND tapping.
Hammer on's, pull off's and tapping all work together. Also this guitar solo is perfect for this song. Absolutely love it. 😎🤘✌️❤️
Their songs always sound to me like they’re arranged for string ensemble but performed with rock instruments.
Just go ahead and dye your hair and tell them you identify as a pigeon.... they can't discriminate againt you... lol.
NittPicc doing NittPicc things. It's now officially a thing !
That back half with the Miku melody just really does it for me! It’s so sweet and hits in a visceral way, usually with a tear or two.💪🏻🤘🏻
I wouldn't mind if my flute teacher had purple hair. In fact, it's more than welcome.👍
Beware, driving while listening to this song and suddenly stopping doing so can and will result in a car crash.
... been done before (as said by KATE) ;) .
You'll probably catch some flak for saying Saiki is rapping, lol. It seems to be a sore subject with some of the fans.😅
Apparently what she's doing in this song has something to do with the Japanese language & different syllable phrasing...
You could wreck a car to this song... oh wait, they already did that... 😂 Nice reaction Ms. Picc
... they DID! Someone said it was captured on film ;) .
btw Influencer is shot in a quarry, absolutely gorgeus
... and includes Saiki actually throwing bars ;) .
you wanna hear some rap style from Saiki, you have to listen to Influencer
Let's just call it Band Maid rock!!!!!
"Far away, take me somewhere far away"
NittPic, you made my day😉 Thanks!
Thanks so much nice reaction!
They are fun and cute and classy and technical band .
They are good friend each other.
Dye your hair - with Pigeon Tails! - Teach your students BAND MAID!
If you want metal from Band-Maid, I suggest Rinne (Reincarnation) MV. One might argue it's their purest metal song to date.
Thank you for great reaction. And nice hair ❤
Blooming was the first song I ever heard of Band-Maid, so thank you for this reaction! Lovely, as always. ❤
Saiki is very versatile and she does "rap" some in their song Influencer 😉
Price of Pride...
Please try listening to it if you like
“why why why(Live ver.)” is my favorite Band-Maid
This is top-tier BAND-MAID for me. It has absolutely everything, with one amazing moment after another, yet somehow feels lean and efficient. Probably the best song to introduce newbies.
Have you been doing this every Sunday? I haven't seen you for a while. Have you watched HATE? from Yokahama Arena yet? If you haven't Misa and Kanami go off in a battle you might get a kick out of. BLOOMING is really sort of one of those departure songs Band Maid does. Enjoy your reactions.
She's done Dice/Hate? From Lollapalooza, so essentially the same performance & "battle"...just a much more shitty recording. 😂
"Channeling your inner Miku".....!!----sounds like what most of us need to do !
I think your journey wouldn’t be complete without hearing Rinne , if you think Blooming brings back punk rock memories for you then Rinne will bring back some metal for you , did you notice in Blooming you don’t get to see their faces until near the end like they were blooming 😎
Pigtails are nice.
Would you like to try on a maid outfit next time?
People who like punk rock will love Band Maid. This is a law..perhaps.
If you want to hear one of their more ‘metal’ songs, then you need to check out ‘rinne’ (reincarnation). MV only please.
LCS version with cool intro for me!
if you ever make that "Band-Maid: Smart Composition" T, you've got a buyer :) BTW, Kanami inverts that opening riff and uses it for the outro.
Love the "Miku tails" and bangs, po!
Your next video you should watch is "Influencer". We will sit back and watch your brain melt.
