@@cherylyoke4872 I did not know him but I know cats. I would guess cooked and mixed in with other food. Cats love certain grasses and pet stores sell little pots, but I've never known a cat to chow down on hard, raw vegetables.
I remember seeing the South Paws documenary back in the day, and reading an article about Jake Perry and his cats on Atlas Obscura. This video gives a good summary, but misses a few things I think are significant. Firstly, Jake gave all his cats access to fresh spring water. Given the relative weakness of cats kidneys, I think high quality hydration is really important. Secondly, he turned his back yard into a giant enclosed catio, so his cats had access to the outside world and all of its stimuli and opportunities for excercise, without the risks associated with free roaming.
That's awesome. My dogs and cats have had long lives from good quality wet food and only the first set of vaccines. Too many bad experiences with meds the vet prescribed so I had to stop them.
@@berealrb1496 Cats are obligate carnivores so that a high protein diet causing kidney disease does not make sense. Like you, I suspect vaccines and I will add kibble which is mostly carbohydrate and ingredients that no cat in the wild would eat.
@@CathleenRandolph-ye5km I had to put my cat you see here on June 23rd. She just turned 20. Loved her ❤️ deeply. Two months later my Anna girl too, 16.
My darling calico "Squeak", that I miss dearly, lived to be a beautiful 19 in human years. I rescued her from 2 10 year old boys who asked me "Hey lady do you want a cat"??? I said "No - I already have a few cats." But I asked "where is the cat"? I watched as one of the boys reached into his shirt + brought out a 3 or 4 day old kitten. They said a lady told them "they could pick out a kitten." I told them I didn't believe them because she needs to stay with her mother who knows how to care for her One said that his mother tried to feed her but couldn't + "if you don't help her she'll die" - they both then started to cry. At this point I told them I'd take her + keep her but I made sure that both promised to never take a baby animal from it's mother + they did. Well I called a vet + he told me how to make a formula to feed her with a little dropper about every three hours. I was bonded to her helpless little darling who would sleep + I'd hear her little "squeaky" voice whenever she was hungry. I had to warm the formula + feed her with a little dropper. I had to take her on the subway, snuggled away from the noises, + take her to my job + hide her away so she'd never miss her feedings. I couldn't believe how amazing she was + we had a wonderful relationship for 19 years. I miss her to this day + still say that she was one of my best friends. R.I.P my darling Squeak!!! 💐

So sorry for your loss. Believe me your cat needs you too because it feels the loss of your wife as well. People think cats are emotionally detached beings which couldn't be father from the truth. When I lost my one of my fur babies, my big boy walked around the house for countless months looking for her and crying. He got better after I got another cat but he has never been that same and that was about 15 years ago, so cats are loyal and do have love and emotions.
My cat Little SIS lived to be 24 yrs old. I supplemented raw organ meat, raw egg yolks, and sardines, she also liked licking on coconut oil, butter and milk cream. I was once told after the age of 7 cats need foods high in b12, thats where the raw liver weekly came into play. Early in her life she loved the outdoors hunting and eating birds/small critters, her favorite cat food were the wet foods Sheba brand, Greenies, fresh grasses and catnip. We gave her lots of love hugs and kisses and a soft plush warm spot for sleeping she often chose pillows and like to sleep on our laps .I sure do miss and loved that cat!!
Due to circumstances beyond my control I ended up being the happy and loving caregiver for a couple dozen cats a few decades ago. They always had clean water and fresh dry Purina Cat Chow. Every one of them lived to between 22 and 25 years old.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I now have 23 cats in my care. There were more than that. Some got out, never to be seen again. Some have passed away. And some we managed to get into a no-kill shelter. Still trying to find homes for more. But, for now, I'm doing my best to care for them.
A clean diet and clean water. Not standard or even expensive cereal crap. Hydration is a big deal. I put glasses easy for them to drink from in window sills. Part of natural feline instinct is to seek out/ keep trusted water sources away from food.... smart aseptic technic to avoid contamination! Treat them like young children. Yes, felines are that smart, look forward to cherished game play and try to cheer you up when you are down... just like a young child.❤
I have 2 cats and due to financial situation we are renting a small room , with just a small window. Any advice for me to do this would be appreciated. They have a water fountain opposite to their food and litter in another corner, not ideal but we are together
This is awesome! My cat is over 16 years old, she has never been to a vet. And never had a shot or was spade, she's a runt and is very active. Indoor cat I had her since a few months old. If a mouse gets inside she kills it and any bugs too, cats are amazing animals and can be as loyal as dogs
We've had two cats live to be 24. Both were strays that we took in. One was what looked like a Maine Coon, but perhaps a mix. The other was an all black domestic shorthair. We've had many cats over the years, almost all were strays that either just showed up at our house, or who were given to us by other people when they showed up at their places. I do wonder about the benefits of feeding them some special items to help out with their longevity. It would be interesting to see some better research into that. But it's clear that Jake really loved his kitties and gave them a lot of attention and made sure that their environment was stimulating.
Please consider to add an interview with this amazing person with many long life cats. I'm super curious about what he actually says. Many of our common health beliefs may not really work because nobody else got 37-year-old cats.
That's a lie , a cats life is usually about 16 years old. There's no way a cat can live to be 38 , that's twice as long as a cat can live , I would like to see you prove it , but you can't , you can always say what you want , and any paperwork you have came from a different cat , that would be like saying that my grandmother lived to be 200 years old , nice try !
I've had several cats live well into their 20s. The oldest cat I had was 28 when she passed away. The next oldest was 27. So I know they can live a long time.
My parent's cats lived in the age of 21 (Osku) and 22 (Santtu) 😯 I'm not sure about the third one, which came to them after the passings. My father says that Vili was at least 20 years. I miss them all 😪🐈🐈🐈❤️
My cat died at 12 from cancer I wish my cat would have lived 30 years I think they poison the food in the medical tyranny I'm also getting reports that a lot of dogs are getting cancer and they think it is the medical tyranny
I had a neutered male indoor outdoor Ragdoll cat from 1971 to 1991. They didn't have fancy cat food back then as far as I remember, so my cat ate Purina Cat Cow and Meow Mix dry kibble his whole 20 years. He was healthy until his last year when he seemed to be getting senile. He only got ill once when I failed to keep up on his flea medicine and got fleas real bad and became anemic. Once the fleas were taken care of, he was never sick again. Otherwise he never had vet visits either.
My best friend is in renal failure. I love him to pieces. He eats wet, dry, tilapia, and lightly buttered roasted chicken with a pinch of salt. He refuses salmon, eggs, and any form of vegetable. He likes homemade bone broth... sometimes. Every night I come home and make him "Special Dinner". He understands the term and expects it. I have tried countless ways of sneaking additional nutritional elements into his diet but he immediately detects and refuses it. I can not take his wet and dry because he is too thin to protest with a hunger strike. If anyone has any suggestions I would utterly appreciate it. He is ancient but his eyes are bright, he is not ready to go. ❤
Hi Karen, pls look for a homeopathic vet/ homeopathic clinic, it is quite easy for them to reverse kidney failure even in advanced stages. It takes between 2 to 3 months. And the remedy they give u can put in water so no stress for the kitty. Wishing ur kitty a full recovery ❤❤❤
@@Sznupek-b4p My vet is exclusively a feline practitioner with over 35 years experience and he would do anything to save a cat, but he has said that kidney disease is irreversible and he went through the heartbreaking process with me when two of my cats went into renal failure, besides countless others that are unknown to me. If there was any way to save my cats and others' he would have advocated for it. While there are ways to slow the progression of the disease and alleviate symptoms, it cannot be reversed. Please be careful not to give people false hope no matter how well intentioned.
Careful with the tilapia. A lot of it is contaminated now. I used to eat it, but don't anymore. I keep mine away from tuna as well. They might eat a little salmon now and then. Chicken is their go to when we do fresh. Mine like a little greenery now and then like apiece of broccoli or sweet peas.
@@dao8805 hi dao, im far from giving false hope, speaking from experience here. My 1st cat was in the end stage renal failure, even the usually greedy vet said it's pointless to offer any treatment at that point, not even the I.V.drip. Her liver was very bad too. Luckily I stumbled upon a homeopathic practitioner, it took a while but the cat was 100% symptom free. Cats are very resilient and can bounce back, even if large portions of the kidney are destroyed. So far I can talk about 5 cats who recovered from kidney failure ( Im kindda involved in animal rescue). Your vet can be the best vet in the world & a feline specialist as u said but doubt that they use homeopathy, most vets are not trained in it and dont believe certain diseases can be cured. It's a whole mindset & Im not gonna discuss it here, just putting out this info for people who are willing to try sth different, thats all. Wishing all the best to any pet struggling with disease and their human caretakers 💗💗💗
My cat got to be 26 years old. My secret was I keep very clean air in my house with particle/carbon air cleaners in every room. And I purify our water with many stages all ending up in a RO machine. Think about it, what makes us. The food that we eat, the air that we breath and the water we drink. If you optimize those to the best of your abilities you and your family's bodies will see less stressors. And you will age better.
A man after my own heart. I'd love to be able to do the same someday in my own home. Currently I help care for the neighborhood colony and help my neighbor with his 9 rescues. The house is exclusively for them and we foster new additions each year that we get spayed/neutered. I help socialize them and we find them homes, and if not they stay in the house. Its the most rewarding thing, giving them the love, attention and care. They love music & my singing. I spend at least 10 minutes with each of them 2-3 times a day, giving them love and caring for their individual needs, playing games/with the toys, grooming their fur/nails, etc. They each have their own personalities and quirks, its the best part of my day having the one on one time with each of them. Cats are wonderful and I appreciate every moment spent with them.
My last four cats lived into their mid-to late-20s, one of them a couple of months short of being 29, but the 30s is truly impressive. It seems odd, then, to base a podcast on someone who has held two world records for feline longevity and then suggest people to do something different. Doing something that works makes more sense to me.
I would really like to see veterinary scientists investigate this case and other similar cases (like yours) and try to figure out how cats can achieve such extreme longevity gains. I've been interested in longevity / aging research for over 20 yrs, and these stories, in the context of what is known about animal lifespans, are remarkable. I can't think of another species that can outlive the 'in the wild' lifespan by so much. What do you think caused your cats to live so long? Were they in relatively good health for a long time, also [did they have a long healthspan]?
@@rhyothemisprinceps1617 As suggested in this podcast, mixed-breed cats (moggies) have an advantage, but I am convinced that a lot of it has to do with the food they eat. Until I started feeding them premium foods, with no corn, soy, wheat, gluten, or unnamed byproducts, with meat, fowl, or fish as the first ingredient, my cats didn't make it to twenty, the kidneys being the first to fail. Since I started feeding premium foods, every cat has made it into their 20s and with fewer vet bills. More controversially, over-vaccination contributes to short lifespans, I'm afraid. I'm not suggesting not vaccinating your cats, but I believe that pumping a kitten with a bunch of vaccinations is not a good idea. It also makes sense to consider which vaccinations are truly necessary. Apart from that, I think it's reasonable to believe that happy cats are healthy cats, and, since my wife and I both work from home, I can spend as much time with them as they need and even when I'm working, there's room at my desk.
what food have you fed them? I’m asking because my other cat lived until 19. I fed her Purina one dry and fancy feast canned. I thought that was a late age but now I have 2 cats under 5 and they don’t seem to like anything anymore when they like something they don’t like it the next week even though i rotate 5 flavors. I went to reveal wet food and they liked it until they didn’t. 😞 they no longer want fancy feast I have tried organic, holistic grain free, I don’t know why they put pumpkin, tomato, pasta or peas, rice, and all that stuff in there because my cats will not eat it and I don’t think they’re supposed to eat it, but I’ve even tried a $3 canned high end canned food and they don’t want that either. I’m at a loss what I can feed them now they’re eating dry food, which is pro plan, they seem to like it. I just don’t know what to do. I’ve been through every single brand available at my local pet store and Chewy. I tried giving them real plain chicken that I made that was very tender. They didn’t want that either. They’re just fussy kitties! I didn’t have to go through this with my other cat. I miss her so much. thank you
@@elainelivingstonky I don't want to get into anything that might sound like a product advertisement, and, in fact, several cat foods would meet the same criteria. Read the ingredient list and ensure that the first ingredient is either meat, fish, or fowl, and that there is no corn, soy, wheat, gluten, or unnamed byproducts on the list. The first four ingredients usually account for about 80% of what's in the food.
My mom had a cat live to old age and he loved peas. The frozen ones thawed under warm water. He always had a little serving by his food. She also fed him canned tuna quite often.

My cat was so sick that I thought she was going to die. She was already pooping small pieces of her liver due to the damage of so much medicine and didn't want to eat. In desperation and having nothing to lose, I gave her with a small spoon some mls of coffee. That morning she finally stood up and ate a little. I stopped giving her coffee when I made sure she wouldn't relapse into sickness.
Most cats are lactose intolerant. But mine have all been offered store-bought milk since they were 6 weeks old. They have some every night with dinner, and none of them have ever had any side effects from it. So I say it depends on how they were raised. All of my cats have lived til at least age 12. My current kitty turned 18 in August. Other than epilepsy that she developed when she was 7, she is extremely healthy and never been sick a day in her life, thank God. 🙏🏼 In fact, she ran around here yesterday like a teenager. She literally RAN!
I admire him. Not to sound inconsiderate, but I have rescue cats too, the oldest is 18 yo and I somehow wish they go before me, because I don't have any family and homeless people in my country still eat czts and dogs, there are no decent shelters and when they are overcrowded, the cats sometimes end on the table of some restaurant named on the menu as 'rabbit'.

I daresay the diet he had them on contributed not that much to their longevity, but all the care, affection and stimulation certainly did. Happy cats are healthier than sad or bored ones. Also, the expected "average lifespan" is so low because many cats are killed when they're still young by something outdoors. If you keep your cat safe, living up to 20 and beyond is not uncommon.

One caution against fish, ocean fish is higher in iodine than a cat’s natural diet. Cats suffer from hyperthyroidism at an abnormally high rate and there’s some thought that overdosing on iodine from a tuna rich diet may be to blame.
Of critical importance is the dosage! Red wine is grape wine and both grapes and alcohol are poisonous to cats, and coffee is also poisonous to cats, but of course, being "poisonous" may just be a matter of dosage, and humans also use botox therapeutically while botulinum is one of the most poisonous substances known, so it's of critical importance to know what the right dose is for these substances to actually be beneficial to the cats before their toxicity takes hold so that someone can follow this regimen without poisoning their cat.
A healthy cat should have a life span of 15 to 23 years. I currently have 2 litter mates that are over 15 years old. Their Brother passed at over 13 after a slow weight loss over an entire year.
I was thinking the same thing. My two boys didn't stop getting crystals, and one almost died until I stopped feeding them kibbles, even though it was "high quality" GARBAGE!
Our cat lived to 28. It ate plenty of wildlife and loved hunting, often bringing back live snakes back to our house. We adopted it in Curacao, then moved to Florida and finally moved to Canada. I think the combination of exercise, fresh meat, good healthcare and decent cat food helped it live that long.
Mine is 17. He is still pretty agile, has a deep growl that intimidates younger cats, sometimes walks over a kilometer to my parents' home (crossing roads, under bridges, through tunnels, small forest). But his eyes began to look old this year. He can stare at you as if he's not grasping what he sees. Worries me.
My oldest cat lived till 23. She was a feral farm bush tabby cat that I tamed. She was extremely affectionate, but a one person cat. My other cats lived between 17 - 19. I think genetics plays a role in their longevity, as well as being fed good food, fresh water and being indoors. A couple if my cats love wildlife programs especially looking at big cats and birds. My cats have a large enclosure, (where they can access the house), and 2 large gymnasiums. Every cat I've had have been rescues, each with a different story attatched to how they were rescued. One thing I found helpful when taking my cats for vet checkups is to put an unwashed tshirt over their carriers - it appears to calm them.
@@cherylyoke4872 I had people who run a cat enclosure business build my cat's enclosure. It's a square shape and round 40sqm. The enclosure has 2 locked gates on it, and was built with steel poles, crossed bars, and cat netting fitted on the top. The enclosure is attached to one of the house rooms where they can enter and exit the house whenever they want. I had kids playground sand trucked in, and spread over the ground. Kids playground sand is not contaminated with anything, it's just pure sand. I've had my cats since they were 2 weeks old. A stray cat gave birth to 4 kittens at my back patio. When I discovered them, they all had severe cat flu. With a lot of vet treatment, and care from me, they all survived, and will be 7 this year. I tamed the mother, and she became part of our feline family too. They have never scratched furniture, or the door security screens, as they have 2 large gymnasiums inside the house that have several tiered shelves, and scratch poles.

Bebe was almost 13yrs old when i had to let him go. Kidney failure. He wasnt neutered till he was 2yrs (?). He stopped by the house one day and i asked him if he wanted a snack. He never left from that day on. He was such a sweetheart. I would carry him in my arms like a baby while made bisquits. He weighed 7-8lbs. Big boy, he spent time outside, but always came in at night.
My current cat is a 2yr old, spayed female. She gets all natural (No grain or fillers) wet food every day, enzymatic gel on her teeth to keep the plaque down, flea and worm treatments every 4 weeks, daily brushing (Long haired) and will be going for her annual vet check and vaccine boosters next month. I'm hoping all this will help her live a long and healthy life, though she doesn't appreciate it, apart from the food of course.
That all sounds great. Just double check the wet food label to make sure it does not contain carrageenan which is in many of even the most expensive grain free cat foods; it has been linked to feline cancer and all cat food manufacturers should eliminate it from their products.
Careful with vets. Mine tried to prescribe a Hill's diet that had grains in it for my male cat's UTI when those grains are what set his off if he eats just a small bag of it.

Diatomaceous earth, food grade, is excellent for natural removal of fleas and ticks and also as a de-wormer. It's high in silica so the cat's fur will improve. There are several helpful videos here that will give you more info on this wonderful all-natural ingredient.
Im emotional reading some of your stories, like Squeak for instance. I lost many of my cats, different reasons. I still grieve for them. I am left with ten. They are all loved and they love their mama.
Vets are just too expensive for someone on a diminished income. Around here it is 36 dollars just for a nail trim. It is about 65-75 dollars just to look at tour cats. I feed my cat well; it is much cheaper than vet bills. Same goes for humans--eat well and live longer better lives.
A truly remarkable man who dedicated his life to, not only rescue unfortunate creatures, but givung them a very long happy blessed life. There is a special place above for him and all the cats he saved! Blessings!
He fed them properly which people don't. Cats are obligate carnivores. That doesn't mean they can't eat other things, but they get their water from their prey. They only drink water when they're dehydrated. He gave them food that gave them water in their food. When your cat drinks water it's stressed out already. This is what damages your cat's kidneys, by being dehydrated all the time. They need more water than you're getting them more than likely. This alone will keep your cats alive much longer
I'm sorryto hear this. It's not easy hearing kitties health is declining. Giving them the utmost comfort & love helps them want to keep living,I'm sure you're cat will living surprisingly long despite their condition due to your love! 🤗😇😺😻👍💜🐈🐾
@SaraNorman-lv6cu sorry for your loss as well! Believe me, I understand the loss. My orange tabby's brother passed in 2016 and I wish I had more pics and vids. I certainly have more of my orange buddy!
Hi, sorry to hear of the sad news of your precious kitty. I believe that with your love, you will prolong your cats life. I pray your kitty lives a long, healthy life no matter what you've been told. Much love & prayers to u and your cat. Godbless!
There is a product called Astro's Oil, which is a high grade fish oil with some additives, which is good for cats' kidneys. It helped one of my cats live longer.
I'm thinking some of what he fed them might not have been the best thing for them, but what do I know my babies are only 15,16,18 so I guess time will tell if I should have given them wine and coffee 😂
Most of the people that have talked to me about their cats living extra long lives have said that they either fed their cats a dry cat food like friskies which is not considered a great food, or that they literally feed their cats all kinds of human food.
I wonder how he gave his cats broccoli? Raw, boiled, mixed first and then blended with wet food or simply alone as a side dish that his cats appreciated? I'm quite sure of that my own cats wouldn't eat broccoli voluntarily. 😄
Try a sweeter version if you can find it. Mine like it steamed. Small pieces of it. I accidentally dropped a small piece while cooking and my male cat scarfed it right up. My female cat refuses all human food. I would never have thought of offering it to him. he gets moods where he wants it. I think it reminds them of grass which they love now and then. He eats asparagus tips sometimes or a bite of spinach from a can after it's heated..
We jokingly call my cat the vegan cat. She likes to hang out 8n my garden and eat all my baby vegetables, especially cucumbers and leaves of the blackberry bushes.
Can you give some tips? My cat is 10 and he is fat, lazy, and has a bad coat. I just moved out of my parents house and brought my cat with me, so I finally have a chance to change him for the better. I’d love my cat to look and feel 2 years old deep into his age, and I have a new kitten who I want to raise properly So please give me some tips and tell me what you do for your kitty
@@heatherren2919 So I think this is kind of normal 'fat, lazy, and has a bad coat'... BUT, one thing I have noticed is that the choice of food really changes the hair appearance, what are you feeding the lazy one? 'I finally have a chance to change him for the better'... what about this, under what conditions was he living, or he just got fat like randomly?
@@heatherren2919your cat needs high quality food. When your cat is a senior pay attention to fosfor in his food. It should be lower then 1. Only wet food for the seniors. Give him fish oil, high quality human grade.
Although the topic is fascinating, the narrator continually corrects all the perceived dietary flaws that the successful cat owner introduced into their lifestyle and eating habits. Q. Is the narrator present to combat rampant and evil disinformation? Q. Does he have a level of expertise exceeding that of the cat owner? Q. Or is he simply trying to over-ride the true story here with his own second-hand information gleaned from such reliable sources as "everybody knows," "studies say...," and "MY vet insists...". I'm not trolling here. The cat owner literally ran dozens of successful controlled trials on his feline companions over the years, and with measurable results. He didn't wear a labcoat. He didn't use a clipboard. He didn't run panels of painful, destructive, and worthless tests. THIS is TRUE SCIENCE, the way it was once conducted. He did it properly, and caused no harm, which is unheard of in contemporary medicine. He benefitted many cats, and IN A JUST WORLD, his methods would be lauded and studied further. Personally, I will follow the "science" based on empirical and repeatable results, over the suppositions of "professionals" who deliberately skew results to favor their hypothesis or to maintain their corporate-origin study grants. In other words, I'll do my own research, and follow researchers like the cat man. I do not need to be told what to think. But what would a narrator be, after all, without a NARRATIVE? 😮
I had heard of the two cats this man had that lived so long, but I heard the one that lived 38 years was a Ragdoll cat. You mentioned it was a tabby. Ragdolls can be tabby. Can you confirm if it was or was not a Ragdoll?
Hormesis is probably very important for living a long life. Alcohol, caffeine and lactose might be bad for a cat, but the poison is always in the dose. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Same goes for humans.
Unless they got them as kittens they don't really know. My boy I adopted at three just moved into his 20s, but he is getting weaker and no longer hunts or grooms as much.
I believe this video is fake. If real, it would represent a massive breakthrough in the science of longevity, and nothing in this video remotely suggests that possibility.
On fish, I read that non-organic seafood including salmon and tuna -- can actually lead to kidney problems due to the heavy metal pollution in these kinds of seafood. It's possible the problem of metals counteracts the Omega 3 benefits. Even the FDA, riddled with corporate lobbyists, recommends tuna for example be restricted on a weekly basis -- there's no such official recommendation for pet food and it's time there should be.
it's simple, he is rich. No matter how much you care if there is no money they will just die. I am just helpingsome stray to survive a little bit but most of them dies at 7, or 15. some can be lucky if they rich 20. I can't vet them, I can't give them good nutrition. I am just helping them to survive a little while. I wish i am rich and I can help all better and I can help more. I don't really pet them or hug them, i avoid too much emotional attachement because it will devastate me if they die. I have to put bounderies on everything. I wish I am super rich and i can save and help more animals.
Do what you can with the love you have to give because they will increase it tenfold. They are God’s little kitty Angels that walk the earth and love us through thick and thin no matter what! Play with them and love them because even though attaching is hard and devastating your heart was made to love and you are stronger and more capable than you know. God bless you.
There are food banks that offer free cat food and you could get scraps from restaurants. I resorted to those options when I was broke. Just trying to help...
Our cats often live past 20, typically close to 25 and some were received by us as grown cats instead of as kittens so are likely older than we know of. I would attribute the long life to a caring environment whete you actually spend a lot of time with the cats.
A quick synopsis: Eggs, broccoli, turkey bacon, caffeine and cream, oily fish eg tuna/ salmon, spay/ neuter, exercise with a jungle gym/ playmates, type of breed, multi cat household better, vet, LOVE
Vaccination, regular checkup, healthy diet and keeping cats indoor contributes to longevity. If from first litter, they are healthy comparatively. Keeping environment cat friendly non toxic plants or chemicals at home also helps.
Crème Puff’s owner, Jake, was my plumber for years. Just love the man, and he loves cats more than anything. I miss him.

Water is number 1. We add it to wet food every time, have multiple sources available, and one is a fountain.

They said a lady told them "they could pick out a kitten." I told them I didn't believe them because she needs to stay with her mother who knows how to care for her
One said that his mother tried to feed her but couldn't + "if you don't help her she'll die" - they both then started to cry.

"raw organ meat, raw egg yolks, and sardines" these we're prob the biggest contributors.
Due to circumstances beyond my control I ended up being the happy and loving caregiver for a couple dozen cats a few decades ago. They always had clean water and fresh dry Purina Cat Chow. Every one of them lived to between 22 and 25 years old.
There must be something to the dry purina then. My mom's cat lived to 22 on it and a daily wet sheba portion. But genetics too.. she was a tuxedo cat.

One of the takeaways I got from this great story is that if you create a fantastic world such that your cat wants to live longer, he will.
Hydration is key for cat health. Keep that urinary tract hydrated. Quality WET FOOD is best and clean water.
Certain grains in foods aren't good for them that's for sure.

May I ask what brand of cat food you fed them and if it was wet, dry, or both? I want the best for my babies and appreciate any recommendations 🙏
Please consider to add an interview with this amazing person with many long life cats. I'm super curious about what he actually says. Many of our common health beliefs may not really work because nobody else got 37-year-old cats.
I know Jake. He was unique. Served his cats eggs, brocolli and things like that.

Hi Karen, pls look for a homeopathic vet/ homeopathic clinic, it is quite easy for them to reverse kidney failure even in advanced stages. It takes between 2 to 3 months.
And the remedy they give u can put in water so no stress for the kitty.

Me too of course.

These comments are wild Between the 1 lady on here screaming at everybody that this is a lie, To the genius claiming that 60 years is the normal age To the person who Deworms her animal Every couple of weeks And the person who takes their poor cat into the vet for a checkout on a Monthly basis For no reason, This has been a very eye opening Comment section good lord how do they Make their way around in the world? how do they tie their shoes?

I have fifteen rescue kitties, they have a unique social dynamic. If I could just get them not to spray!
Desexing will generally stop most from spraying and the ones that still spray will rarely do it.
@@Loni-044 As a rule of thumb: yes. But some pee at prime locations anyway. Each and every day. I had one like that. Loved that cat, but couldn't get him to stop. Since he usually did it, when I was not around to try to stop this behavior. He had the big outside, but that didn't prevent it either.

One caution against fish, ocean fish is higher in iodine than a cat’s natural diet. Cats suffer from hyperthyroidism at an abnormally high rate and there’s some thought that overdosing on iodine from a tuna rich diet may be to blame.
Yes. Too much tuna isn't good for the kitty

Lovely Man 🐈🐈🐈🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️
A healthy cat should have a life span of 15 to 23 years. I currently have 2 litter mates that are over 15 years old. Their Brother passed at over 13 after a slow weight loss over an entire year.
My Tortie made it to 20. Wiw!
It’s all that love that keep them going with long lives!!!! ❤
My cat Elliot was liked by all my neighbors in my apartment complex. The kids loved him so much. He lived to 22 years.
I am surprised they lived that long on dry kibble and high carbohydrates as shown on this video.
I was thinking the same thing. My two boys didn't stop getting crystals, and one almost died until I stopped feeding them kibbles, even though it was "high quality" GARBAGE!
My kind of guy🐱
Our cat lived to 28. It ate plenty of wildlife and loved hunting, often bringing back live snakes back to our house. We adopted it in Curacao, then moved to Florida and finally moved to Canada. I think the combination of exercise, fresh meat, good healthcare and decent cat food helped it live that long.
I like how we clicked on this video to learn what this guy did and all I'm hearing is, don't do what this guy does. Excuse me, is your cat 38? Stfu

What an amazing man.
What kind of inclosure? Didn’t they tear up the screens with their claws?
@@cherylyoke4872
I had people who run a cat enclosure business build my cat's enclosure.
Thank you for your kindness. One of my cats lived to 21 years (Abyssinian) and another 18 years (stray 🐈⬛) he looked liked a small panther and walked like one too.

Funny how successful this guy has been, it doesn't stop people from saying, "But don't do what he did."
But out of his so many cats only two lived longer. It could be genetics?
Flea and deworming treatments are 1 of the worst things that you can do for cats Sorry to impart this information please do get a healthy cat book. Veterinary Secrets channel on You Tube will send you a free ebook if you request .
And I'm definitely not an anti vaxxer but for cats They tend to oversell At regular vet practices And the fellow that I mentioned Before with The channel on TH-cam Has a very good list of ones to always get and ones to never get if you do a little searching on here.
Diatomaceous earth, food grade, is excellent for natural removal of fleas and ticks and also as a de-wormer. It's high in silica so the cat's fur will improve. There are several helpful videos here that will give you more info on this wonderful all-natural ingredient.
What an awesome man!!

You really need to work on your listening comprehension skills.
I got my cat when I was 4. I kept her through college until she died
Most of the people that have talked to me about their cats living extra long lives have said that they either fed their cats a dry cat food like friskies which is not considered a great food, or that they literally feed their cats all kinds of human food.
Well, the cats are certainly not bored to death.
Omg my first cat as a child his name we named him was Creme Puff ❤
I wonder how he gave his cats broccoli? Raw, boiled, mixed first and then blended with wet food or simply alone as a side dish that his cats appreciated? I'm quite sure of that my own cats wouldn't eat broccoli voluntarily. 😄
Boiled and mixed well with food. Always cooked broccoli, raw is too hard to digest for them.
My cat loves to share my brocoli!
Where does he give the diet?
We jokingly call my cat the vegan cat. She likes to hang out 8n my garden and eat all my baby vegetables, especially cucumbers and leaves of the blackberry bushes.
38!? My babe is like 15 or 16 y.o and still going strong looking like a 2 y old... is this representative of longevity?
Can you give some tips? My cat is 10 and he is fat, lazy, and has a bad coat. I just moved out of my parents house and brought my cat with me, so I finally have a chance to change him for the better.
I’d love my cat to look and feel 2 years old deep into his age, and I have a new kitten who I want to raise properly
So please give me some tips and tell me what you do for your kitty
@@heatherren2919 So I think this is kind of normal 'fat, lazy, and has a bad coat'... BUT, one thing I have noticed is that the choice of food really changes the hair appearance, what are you feeding the lazy one?
'I finally have a chance to change him for the better'... what about this, under what conditions was he living, or he just got fat like randomly?
Nope! My cats looked also very good but between 20 days they were gone. Blood test every 6month or year is the key.

That's awesome. I had one make it to 20. I have two brothers now that are 16.5 but they are on their last leg.
Hormesis is probably very important for living a long life. Alcohol, caffeine and lactose might be bad for a cat, but the poison is always in the dose. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Same goes for humans.
My cats at 19 rn and my grangparents cat lived up to 21❤
Unless they got them as kittens they don't really know. My boy I adopted at three just moved into his 20s, but he is getting weaker and no longer hunts or grooms as much.
Stay away from vets.
Our cats often live past 20, typically close to 25 and some were received by us as grown cats instead of as kittens so are likely older than we know of. I would attribute the long life to a caring environment whete you actually spend a lot of time with the cats.
