My cardiologist wanted to put me on a compound weight loss drug. I was very leery about someone in a local pharmacy mixing up a drug that I would inject. Also it was not covered by insurance so not affordable. I opted for going to my internist, who prescribed Wegovy. Its covered by insurance and I know its been produced in a sanitary facility.
I was going to go with zepbound and after getting my Medicare Advantage to approve it my cost was going to be $1200 per month.. after their recent pricing change it would be $500. I need to lose 20+ lbs that have been very stubborn due to other health issues. So my Dr suggested this route. I will start today with a compounded pharmacy for $145. This is challenge for seniors! Our choices are very limited! Our drug choices are typically very expensive on anything thats not generic. I vould tell you the politics of how we got here but most don't care. You typically dont until its your reality!
You are correct about the politics of medications in the US. I hope it all changes soon. Also I’m afraid your compounded tirzepatide may not be available for too much longer due to the “politics”.
I used to work for the maker of Lantus amongst other drugs in the Global Marketing Department. My boss, the Chief of Global Marketing told me that when pricing drugs, it is like the pricing of perfumes. If they price too low, thought leaders will not see it as special enough.
@@wheelsuprn6591 I have heard this silly argument. It shrivels and dies when the same drugs are MUCH less in other countries. Ozempic, for example, is 1,300% LESS per month in the UK! Same medication. Same company. Same “effectiveness”, Perceived or not. The answer to “why are drugs so more expensive in this country?” is soooo much simpler.
very informative Thank you for all the great information. I enjoy your topics and your knowledge of information that we need to know. I've taken both compound and prescription and didn't notice any difference. I only purchased compound from approved 503 and 504 companies sources
That is where I wonder if my compound medications are “watered down”? I did 3 months of Tirzepatide. Every month I have titrated up. Good diet & exercise. Lost 1 lb a week. The very last week of the third month I lost 3 lbs for the first time in 3 months. Now I’m trying to decide to do one more month or not. It’s expensive. And I can lose 1 lb a week on my own! Was it just a fluke thing that I lost 3 lbs? Or is it finally helping me? Ugh. I have to decide today.
I didn’t start noticing a big drop in weight until I hit 7.5mg. The first month of 2.5mg was like nothing for me…. I was close to stopping and calling it a scam LOL but I’m glad I stuck with it cause I’ve hit my weight loss goal (and then some lol) It’s scary to think about if a million + people are just “cut off” (from getting compounds) the insane “Food Noise” is gunna come back with a vengeance 😮
What if you’re going through a medical weight loss clinic; should I be concerned about their compound source? I believe they’re using a 503 b pharmacy. The clinic pre- fills the syringe so we don’t see the bottle. It’s called Rivas located in Maryland

Perhaps the higher dose in the 3rd month is the correct dosage for you.
Excellent Point!!
Is that compound going away soon?
@@markwesely5966 that’s what I’m thinking too.

You should definitely ask where they source their meds and they should be able to tell you the certification level of their preferred pharmacy.
Great information as usual. Thanks for sharing with us.
You bet! Thanks for watching!
