    This truly is an isolated track. No bleed through of other tracks whatsoever. I should crank this up on my massive sound system and open the windows and have people in the neighborhood thinking 'wow, somebody in this area is one hell of a drummer!'

      Amen, brother. It sounded great on the album. And now to hear the isolated track...it's like a whole new level of, "Wow, that snare is UNREAL!" Super production. Of course, I know nothing about the production process, but...man, the entire album is so crisp and clean.

    • @maxdurk4624

      It does sound pretty great, but I think Metallica's self titled album is the gold standard of production for me, and I don't even like that album.

    • @Papa-tn3vn
      @Papa-tn3vn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Mike-zb7ts I think a lot of the great sound of this record is due to the original SSL mixing desk at Le Studio with it's BIG fat, warm, punchy analog sound going through great outboard gear and onto two synchro'd Studer 24 track analog reel to reel tape machines! You just can't beat the warmth of analog! I love the big reverb on the snare and the dry toms that really punch through the mix and feel "in your face and personal", it just makes his drum sound on this record sound so dynamic and GOOD! They sound the best on this album IMO more than any other.

    • @ata5855
      @ata5855 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Papa-tn3vn How do they achieve massive reverb on the snare, and none on the kick? Is that just down to different reverb settings on different mics?

    You can hear that Neil Peart always puts a ton of work into developing a drum track.
    Very methodical and technical ,yet at the same time, tasty and creative. A living legend.

      Yep. Hes said himself that he is such a compositional drummer. Not an improvisational drummer. He tried to do a little improv in his solos but thats just not his forte. I remember in the game of snakes and arrows vid when the producer nick asked him to do all new parts for all the verses of the way the wind blows, neil freaked out and looked nervous and very uncomfortable about it. I realized then that he REALLY was not an improv drummer and was definitely his weak side. His only weak side.
      Some guys like carter beauford from dave matthews band is a seriously excellent drummer, to me about as good as neil, but he is the opposite of neil. He is very much an improv guy and not so much about writing very specific parts that he always plays the same. He changes their parts of songs a decent amount almost show to show. My 2 favorite drummers, carter and neil.

    I was thinking about possibly adding a synchronized video track to this, as in one of the recent live shows I mean. But I'm not going to use your work unless you say you'd approve (and if at least one other fan says they could dig it LOL). Actually strike that last part. Seriously though I don't want to use your work of Neil's work and would never post publicly without approval (even then I'm not sure I want to).

    This is what every drummer in the 80s tried to play perfectly and the other drummers would be jealous if you could learnto play it the right way all the way through. I didn't. Keepingit real. But I was good. And kept the main verse best but organizedthe chorus to fit me.. I joined drum Corp and worked on my hands to do diddles and paradiddles with great speed and efficiency but I was too A.D.D to learn drum charts so My influences of Rich. Peart, and Bonham mashed together and created my own style. I can't sit in the pocket all night. That's just giving the guitar all the power. FTHAT. He's gunna have to keep up.

    Wow. I had no idea there was so much kick drum in this song. I've been playing this song in bands for years. I'm a bass player. Speaking of which, I've been helping you drummers carry and set up your drum sets for decades. More than any other guy in the band I've had to look back and inadvertently stare at your balls jiggle up and down when playing this song. Now I know why. Way too much kick drum. This song is relatively easy for bass but now I know why the drummers would struggle with it. So much kick drum.

    Ok, I'm a guitar player , so please excuse anything that sounds like a dumb question here, but I've heard Neil say that this song was difficult for him to play. What makes this do difficult ( and I mean on his level), I've heard other stuff he's done that sounds more difficult to me at least. Either way, he's one of my favorite drummers.

    • @spite1296
      @spite1296 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Late comment, but as a drummer myself, I'd say a good portion of what makes this song so difficult is the endurance that it calls for. Constant speedy 16th hihat/ride notes throughout the track while having to nail down fairly complex fills at the same time with pretty much no breaks whatsoever. Not to mention the tricky bass drum quick-double patterns throughout the song, and of course, the odd time signature changes (which aren't too hard if you've got a decent grasp of them). All these factors mixed in make for one hell of a challenge, even if you know the song note for note.

    • @gnoogie
      @gnoogie ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spite1296 that crazy polyrhythm shit he starts doing on the ride in the back half is what always mind fucks me. cant imagine how many hours he spent getting to the point where he could do it that cleanly and effortlessly, on top of everything you said. @Jameskeith1972 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gus Ganaden nope. Not best ever. Why does Keith moon get credit over Dave Weckl? Moon is probably the reason I play drums and all but come on!!! I love Bonham too, yet my tastes lean more towards Bill Ward, or better yet Michael Giles (who happens to be Peart’s biggest influence). I’m telling you... check out anything recent of Dave Weckl. You won’t know what the heck he’s doing. Most people that can’t even play drums could play this tune. It was one of those rites of passage songs. There has to be over 100 videos of 12 year old girls who cover this.
      Lastly, Weckl studied under Freddy Gruber. If you haven’t heard of him...then go ask Neil Peart. Neil was his student too.

    • @Jameskeith1972
      @Jameskeith1972 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kickstar1 I have to disagree. He’s important. Has some of the best recordings ever... but that’s owed to the producers and Jimmy Page. He beat the crap out of the Drums.. and was loud. He got most of his chops from growing up on Elvin Jones and Buddy Rich. Otherwise, he’s overrated compared to guys like Jeff Procaro who took Fool in the Rain and turned it into Rosanna. Classic. It’s all a part of a Tradition. It’s the evolution of modern drumming.
      Music sucks nowadays. Modern drummers are amazing though! I hope that they can breathe some life back into music like they did back during the swing era. No go study!

      @Shallex a poster named John Wallace here said Le Studio is still haunted by Neil Peart's ghost notes. It isn't. I thought I responded to him under his comment. I don't know why my answer is here and not there where I put it.

    Some of those drums parts were haeder then I thought. Saw a real drummer at music school play it in an ensemble I was in and I was like holy. They keys and guitar are not that hard for a prog song though... well the guutar solo is intense, but besides that its no Dream Theater level stuff. The drums and vocals are hard though.

      What is genius about this song (and Rush) is that its not just a prog song.... its also a pop song. Dream Theater could never craft such a song.

      TheAlibabatree great point. Please people, don’t compare Dream Theater with Rush..

    You can always tell the amateurs.. they call it an "isolation track", while while may be true in a layman's sense.. it's just not the terminology we use for tracks and stems like this.

      @Scott Birdyboy well maybe the majority is wrong, this does not have the "feel" that the song provides.
