It's such a great feeling when you discover another upcoming film that is filled with so much promise. Guillermo is a fantastically creative director and Frankenstein is an incredibly rich world to delve into. What do you fine people think about this one? Excited as well? Let me know in the comments and please consider subscribing for future updates as well as other various content revolving around films that matter. Take care and stay entertained!
Mr. Guillermo once said in an inteview about the FR. novel : "The monster says, 'I have such love in me, more than you can imagine. But, if i cannot provoke it, i will provoke fear.' As a child that was disenfranchised from everything, and that was in a world that was the wrong size, run by the wrong people, the wrong morale and the wrong rules, i felt completely outside of that, and i wanted some measure of control, and the measure of control i found was through fear.” I think this one will be a good one.
I hope, given it's Netflix and he has full creative control, that GDT gives us a blend of Classic Universal & Bernies monster. I like that the actor is 6'5", so it ain't another under 6" guy like DeNiro.
I like that he’ll bring his own style and flavor to the classic story and not just retell it word for word. The most faithful adaptation of the book that I’ve seen is the 2003 mini series
God do I wish this channel had more exposure/subscribers/views. It's truly one of the more interesting opinion essay channels on TH-cam, with continually solid takes on its subjects.
@@justinklenk Thanks very much for saying this. I try to follow guidelines of making clear, precise and interesting thumbnails, titles and tags etc but I don't get the algorithm well enough perhaps 😞. I'll keep plodding on though. Cheers for your support though, as every like, comment and watch time helps boost a vid success
@ENTERTAINtheDUDE Here, here. Something tells me (and everyone else) that the algorithm prefers sensationalism and lowbrow clickbait, SO much more than worthwhile content and quality presentation, that the legitimate cream which rises to the top must be something so stellar that it finally forces that algorithm's begrudging hand - 3Blue1Brown, for instance - but then even a channel like Sabine Hossenfelder's popular physics channel is replete with ADHD-baiting production insertions and memes every half-minute, to the consternation of a huge portion of her viewers. But this doesn't change the truth of the matter - just confuses it for everyone. I hope your viewership rise is steady and stable and rewarding; it's worthy conversation, the way you present it.
@justinklenk you may be right on a lot of those points. Everything seems to be click bait these days. I used to enjoy watching certain debates but all of them seem to use the word DESTROYED in the title as an example. As you say, the formula seems to be, whether it's politics, media or entertainment, must add layers or drama to increase the viewership haha!
@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE True. (We lament these things, in private and in public.) That works well.)
I found myself lucky enough to be an extra on the 1st day of shooting...from my experience... Guillermo has put every thought into making this film his best work.
That's awesome! They're filming here in Scotland now (for what I presume is the last few scenes before wrapping), and I've got a wee extras role as well! From what I've seen so far, they are sticking extremely closely to historical accuracy and leaving no room for error with the costumes... even for really small parts. They ain't messing around! Signed an NDA of course though so can't elaborate any further lol
I was hoping that you would be doing something on this project and here we are. If having something to look forward to is one of the keys to happiness, then call me happy. Lol. Just imagine the set design and production values and everything else involved with a Del Toro vision of Frankenstein. The Big Screen beckons. I'm also anticipating good things with the Maggie Gyllenhaal directed The Bride featuring a great cast including Christian Bale as the monster. Looking forward to further updates here on Entertain The Dude.
Yes, I need to cover that one also, good shout out. I'm sure there will be aspects of the film that don't agree with people but Del Toro always has style and substance to his films and I cannot wait for this one. Btw buddy, we get a full length trailer for Romulus today so I better get cracking when I get home haha
@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE Hey, thanks for the head's up on the Romulus trailer. I shall seek it out. I actually just picked up a copy of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, having never read it. I can hardly wait for this to come out. Del Toro did such a great job of The Shape of Water which was really an update of Creature from the Black Lagoon. I hope he gets the look of the creature right.
@@ENTERTAINtheDUDEagreed, the modernized pop culture version in my opinion is goofy and does not accurately depict the original themes are direction of the story. This story is deep, dark, rich, and complex
I don't mean to be a pedant but adaption is when something has been changed by its environment. Adaptation is changing or updating something to make it better or more functional in a different setting. The latter word should have been used in this instance. Overall though, the video is good.
Oh yes, somebody else pointed out the same issue. It's funny how many silly mistakes can happen when making these videos, haha! As long as I learn and correct these mistakes going forward. Thanks for being civil, as I always take good criticism to heart and try to improve 👍
Thanks. It was a good video and interesting. I just thought I should point the small mistake out as other people are starting to make it as well. Another common mistake is when people say "amount of people" instead of "number of people". "Amount" is used for something like salt or sugar; "number" is for humans. Cheers.

One of the reasons I couldn't stand Prometheus after it came out (apart from being such a disappointment) was finding out Guillermo was planning to adapt 'At the Mountains of Madness' until he heard Scott was making Prometheus.
There had been quite many Frankenstein movies thought the years but NONE have ever came close to the great master piece Boris Karloff made!.Boris Karloff is the only one to portrait the monster in a way that the audience could identify with him by see him not only as a monster but also as a victim/guinea pig type and human being full of pain and sorrow!. Careful when wishing for "an accomplished director... finally ready to create their dream project" (Peter Jackson's awful 3h21m ""King Kong"). Ergo, Del Toro having to pony up his own cash for Frankenstein. I shudder at the thought because Del Toro is a steampunk H. P. Lovecraft crossed with Spielberg. He does tentacles and Kaiju. He's Cronenberg for kids. If he gets the monster right at least then I'm all in. Nobody has done that. It's 8 Foot tall, long flowing black hair, translucent yellow skin pulled so tight it "barely disguised the workings of the arteries and muscles underneath,” watery, glowing eyes, flowing black hair, black lips, and prominent white teeth. It's not an Industrial monster, it's a Romantic one. Written by a teenager raised by radical nutjobs who lost her virginity fucking her married lover on a grave no less.
Well it would be interesting to see later on what Del Toro has in mind for the creatures look. His creature designs in his films although can be sometimes very identifiable, they can be very effective. We'll see how things develop but I understand your hesitation.
