Here in Uruguay there are Seagulls almost since a year, they are better in person, seem like cars from future when seeing in the night from rear !. Nammi is being offered right now, is more conventional aesthetic but is a bigger car (I always check distance between axles)
it is an early stage for the sodium ion battery. (there is no statistic of reliability in long term at least for 8-10 years). some youtubers tested the sodium baterry for their solar panel system so we need to see the performance at least 5 years if it is relaible. and they are not cheap either, because the production scale is not enough to beat the lfp battery in term of quantities.
I have asked the Danish importer of BYD and they say that the BYD Seagull will come to Denmark in 2025 and if it comes at a price below 20,000 euros, then it will be a blockbuster
Looks like Nammi is waging a spec sheet war with BYD. Here where I live, the Seagul will soon be launched and it will be the cheapest electric car in Brazil. Would love to drive either, though.
Both would be on my list for consideration if they were available in the UK at the right price. For the size of car, left hand drive wouldn't be a problem either.
Foe Western Proportions I think the Nammi would do well. Load either car up with 4 people though & I wonder how they would cope at highway speeds or climbing some roads. The Nammi does look that little bit better finished than the Seagull. I wonder how hard it is to import either version as an individual with all the import restrictions & Safety requirements of each country? I don't think it is very easy.
Neighbours talking in the pub… Neighbour #1: I noticed a new car in your driveway. What is it? Neighbour #2: It’s a Nammi 01 Dongfeng. Neighbour #1: No, I mean the car. What’s the model? I don’t recognise it. Neighbour #2: It’s a new Chinese model called a Nammi 01 Dongfeng. Neighbour #1: What? You’re joking my leg! With a name like that do you think it’ll have any resale value? Neighbour #2: Probably not, but the dealer said they do free recycling. Neighbour #1: Has your partner seen it yet? Neighbour #2: Not yet, it’s a surprise. Neighbour #1: Oh. (pauses) Well, I’m buying the drinks tonight. Not a good idea for you to go home sober.
In Europe, the Nammi 01 will be labeled as BOX, it's better than the seagull in every way and will arrive earlier, reportedly this summer. In terms of price/performance, Nammi is much better and a clear choice.
BYD at least understand that western friendly names and branding is important if you want to sell cars outside of Asia, Nammi and Dongfeng just don't promote pride in ownership.
I like the aero of the Nammi and the inside also but your vid reminded me the Seagul has a nice interior . Maybe better even but the outside is to angular for my taste. Toyotaish or transformer like.
It seems about 30% of the world drives on the left of the road. Shouldn't they make the Evs adaptable ??? Like unclip the wheel and move it to the other side and unplug the pedals and plug them into a harness on the other side. Voila ....you have a Ev for the left and right side of the road. Evs seem very experimental at present. Nothing here in Australia really that average people would buy or have enough money to buy. Maybe we need to look again in 5-10 years when it may be all sorted out. I still think Evs will do it in the end. It was a good report..Thx
BYD has just built a factory in Thailand for RHD EVs for SE Asia. Pretty much all of Asia is RHD. In fact puzzelling why China is LHD. Anti British/Japanese/Indian sentiment? Anyway Britian and Europe is the only place where your idea make sense.
BYD Seagull looks better to me, the Nammi also looks good. Prefer the door handles of the Nammi as they are more modern. I don't know enough about the Nammi if I would buy it, on paper it slightly edges out the Seagull by a smidgeon.
42.5kWh battery, 75kW motor 140km/h, claim 400ks but probably 300 in real world. Auto parking etc. If I could get RHD I'd buy one. Maybe imported as a Dacia (Dongfeng build the Spring) but I think Renault will stop that as dimensions are very 5 like
We tested the BYD, but the cheapest BYD Dolphin (Active was not on sale) started around €34k. We bought the Dongfeng Nammi Box . . . . . . hands down the winner in all categories. So, that Seagull will never be a match for the Nammi. The finnish, build quality, the standard equipement/features, of that Nammi BOX punches far over its class. In the Netherlands for €23.500 (42kWh battery) and that Dolphin is €30.000. When the Seagull is even below the specs of the Dolphin . . . . i fear no one will buy it for a price that is over €18k. We would not buy the Dolphin Active, even when it was €3.000 cheaper than the Nammi Box. th-cam.com/video/qJ0GXToDMWc/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Not bloody likely with the Canadian government following its US master and adopting an anti-China stance. Besides it's too cold.. LFP won't work well here. Maybe when the sodium battery models come out that'd be an option.
At least you should learn some Chinese to knows the vehicle's real name. It's Dongfeng Nami 01. You can call it "Nami 01". You don't say "ID 3 Volkswagen", right?
@@georgew1015 That's not the issue - it's what happens when they do catch fire that is. ICE fires can be put out pretty easily. EV fires on the other hand can not and they also give of lots of toxic fumes in the process.
To be fair the Nammi 01 does look far more finished and smooth compared to the Angular BYD Seagull
It's a matter of personal taste, I prefer the Seagull.
If BYD is reading this, please come up with a new version of Seagull with greater battery capacity and a panorama roof. I would be happy to pay more!
And a high efficiency solar roof and burnet for range extendings
I live in Thailand, and am waiting for the Seagull to arrive. At present we have the Netta V which is selling well, but I think I would prefer a BYD.
Here in Uruguay there are Seagulls almost since a year, they are better in person, seem like cars from future when seeing in the night from rear !. Nammi is being offered right now, is more conventional aesthetic but is a bigger car (I always check distance between axles)
Haven’t owned a car in over 10 years but I’d 100% buy a BYD seagull if available in the UK.
This is a sodium powered vehicle. No thermal runaway. Not affected by temperature.
According to this video and Wikipedia, the Nammi uses an LFP battery.

Looks like the Smart #1....
Nammi 01 Dongfeng? Do they have the Monty Python team choosing their model names?
Nammi has six parking sensors in front and back 😊
Nammi front seat (driver and passenger) can be folded 180 degree 😊
I thin Byd should hurry up, and send the Seagull to Europe.

Not in every way, nammi has only 2 airbags.
@@nicolasmorales5664 Well, the only thing the Seagull is better at is the airbags, but that doesn't mean it will be a safer car
Yes your correct it was beaten by every single ice car on the road in range & refueling times
You mean, 'You're'.

So why western centric when the aim is for the global market. Go for a neutral name, then.

Are you being racist?
I would buy the BYD Seagull in the UK - 100%. Why can't we have affordable EVs in the UK - especially as Renault has retired the Zoe (meanies)!
Thanks for the comment Joanne :) Absolutely, awesome car for the UK roads. It's nice to see that other people would love one in the UK.
The Seagull looks good.
So it has defective rear
rear suspension

NAMMI is way better
BYD Seagull starting delivery in Indian July 2024
Nammi 2 airbag, Seagull 6 airbag ......
Nammi has auto parking which attracted me.
How is the reliability after a few months?

Had my experience with Chinese cars, they look good , that's it, nothing else, and resale value well you can forget that.
They are kings here in Thailand and Asean region. Top four are all Chinese, followed by Tesla. Won't go wrong with this or Byd
And your experience is?
Which Chinese EVs have you owned?
I am still going for the seagull, because it looks better .
Yes , i am that shallow....

does anyone know where the right-hand drive Seagull is being manufactured?
China I do believe. :)
