      I bought an A5 Japanese real waygu steak from Sam's Club for $99, pretty much the same thing we see here -- To say I was excited for this was an understatement, but I was absolutely gutted to find out it tasted like crap lol I felt so confused and angry. I cooked it correctly, after watching hours of videos to practice it, I was dead on with the cook but it was rubbery and tasted like chewy gristle with a bacon-beef flavor. I gave the rest to my foodie coworker and he had the same experience. We're still haunted by the expectation-to-reality shock. Only two things that make sense is 1) we were sold fake A5, at a corporate level, or 2) we are both fake foodie wannabes with a crap palate.

    • @noah7624
      @noah7624 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      @@jgizzy Not to say that you cooked it incorrectly, but watching videos does not equate to actual skill, so you likely did incorrectly cook it if you have never cooked steak before or just a few times. For instance, watching Michael Jordan play basketball may help your understanding and knowledge of the game, but your skill within it remains just as bad.

    • @EXRDaBeasta
      @EXRDaBeasta 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      @@noah7624Cooking meat is pretty easy and yes watching videos does go a long way. Can't compare cooking vs sports. 1 requires many years of training and natural talent, the other in some circumstances, can be perfectly replicated because the ingredients and the time are the stars of the show, not you. I'm sure he did do it right because I've had Wagyu at a restaurant where obviously the chef knew how to prepare it and I was extremely disappointed with how it tasted vs its cost. It's one of those products where you are simply paying for the namesake, not the quality. Lots of people outside of the realm of youtube will tell you it isn't that great at all, and other cuts of meat are significantly better and cheaper.

    The cast iron sear increased the internal temp and acted as a 2nd cook. A torch or open flame would have been hot enough to put a crust on without leaving the heat on so long that it recooks the steak. Or cooking it to a temp lower than your final target would have been an option too.

      @LudiCrust. 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That’s so true. I was stationed in Japan & experienced it firsthand. Japanese steaks are just so damn good & taste different enough from US steaks that it makes them more desirable to Americans used to eating top of the line US beef. On the flip side they thirst for our top shelf steaks so I can see why they like them so much. The best steak I’ve ever had in my life was at a steak house in Austin Texas when I was visiting family but Japanese steaks are just as good. I’d put Korea at #3 & no other country I’ve been come close to those 3. Obviously Europe has high quality steak but to my tastebuds they lack the richness of the other 3.

    I’m impressed that it wasn’t a bit more expensive. I ordered the same cut of steak from Japan but I ordered 2, and it was a little more than double what you pay here. Doesn’t bother me but I am curious as to if they’ve gotten cheaper recently overall.

    • @photogami
      @photogami  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here! I was told they get this in bulk (36 steaks in a box and 10 boxes at a time) and get a wholesale discount. Someone in the comments mentioned that in some low volume stores where they can't move the product, they'll discount it down another $40! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for that
      Where did you order yours from? I'd love to do a comparison if it's available

    • @adb888
      @adb888 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They aren't cheaper from Japan - Costco cut some sort of deal and/or is selling them at a loss. It is legit Wagyu though, per the certification from Japan.

  • @keynotepablo3524

    bro if you’re going to be reviewing food on camera, you NEED to be descriptive. “so it’s so goooood” yes but HOW?! WHY?! explain the texture, the bite, the mouth feel, the flavors, the aroma.. “it’s so good” literally gives ZERO information besides the fact that it tasted “so good” to YOU.
    that’s a fine description when you’re eating with friends, but if you’re purpose is to review food, record it, and broadcast it online, you absolutely need to explain exactly what you’re experiencing.

    • @yelnatsch517
      @yelnatsch517 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yup, that’s how Wagyu should be cooked. It’s a common mistake for people who have never had Wagyu to cook it like a normal steak. It’s actually MORE tender when cooked medium than medium rare due to the high fat content
