  • How much does 1 year of travel cost? It is a lot less than you may think. I travelled the world for 12 months and I break down the cost of exactly how much I spent in that year, Backpacking and travelling around Southeast Asia and Australia.

My confession: I am always jealous when I watch such videos. As an African citizen and passport holder, I do not have the previlleged to travel the world with the ease, as comparded to westerners. The requirements alone of embassies/consulates in my country, is discouraging. One's chances on this green planet, is undoubtedly correlated with the space, one is born into., 🤦🏽‍♀️

I’m so sorry to hear. Breaks my heart to know that there are other travellers out there who are dying to explore however due to visa restrictions don’t get the chance to travel so freely. A privilege not many westerners think about at all. I really hope to think that times are changing - at the end of the day we are all literally just humans ??? like why does where I am born determine where I can and cannot roam!?

Good on you mate. I quit my job at 46 and went around the world (2019), South American (Colombia to Argentina) then southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and South Korea), on a budget of around £12k. As long as you can rough it, you can go a long long way on little money. I'm now plotting my next trip post vivid, using only boats and overland 😊

How long did you travel? That's amazing that you were able to see all of that on 12,000. I'm 44 and planning a similar trip to yours, plan on being on the road for about a year. I'm budgeting about $36,000, which may be more than I need, but it may allow for a splurge or two.

Stay away from Vietnam. I met folks who had been there and ended up in the Bangkok, Bumrungrad medical center. There are some rough diseases there. And had other buddies that had been there, and none of them had anything good to say about it.
Thailand and Philipines are cheap and seemed good to me. Singapore and Japan were expensive. South Korea was okay. And that's for Asia.
In Europe, Yugoslavia seemed to be a good deal. In South America, Colombia seemed to be safe enough, with cheaper prices and good weather. But go to trip adviser and check!
I got paid to go around the world. At your age, the best deal may be enlisting in the Army, if you want to travel and see the world. Though right now, it may not be as good as it was in 2020.

It helps, till it starts hurting the folks, by overcharging them on taxes. My, along with other folks, biggest bill / expense is taxes! When American companies get overcharged, the employees usually suffer. I've seen business go under when taxes got jacked up on them. And also from union problems.
Though if you're working for an American company overseas, in the right situations, you can get a partial break on taxes.
