    Hey Mike, great job! Which was the reading of the maf sensor before and after fixing it? Would have been nice to realise how the low maf reading shortens timing injection and generates that wrong fuel trim. Does foxwell provide that live data? Thanks!!

  • @CarlosGarcia-ls4hn
    @CarlosGarcia-ls4hn ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the failure of the purge valve always affect the fuel trims? If so, do you need a special scan tool to reset them, and how do you find out what the fuel trims are for a specific vehicle?

    That's an eye opening case story, with two problems. I would have thought it would have thrown an evap code with a constantly open purge valve, but evidently not.

    • @TheDisgruntledMechanic
      @TheDisgruntledMechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope no evap code. maybe because it was only slighty open and proceeded to get worse. Thanks for watching! It makes me wonder if I had taken it back to the dealership if they would have just fixed 1 problem under warranty and shipped it.

      @@TheDisgruntledMechanic Yea I guess I did. Unfortunately, that little bit in the Intake is missing too, so Looks like a new valve cover and Intake Manifold for this thing. IS it me or is the design really kind of stupid? But it still beats the heck out of her previous chevy Cobalt's rear drum brake design. That large W-shaped spring was a total nightmare to get into place. The sad thing though is when she took it to Autozone to get the code read they were trying to sell her Fuel Injectors.

    MAP at idle is showing 32 kPa.
    O2S2 B1 showing almost constant voltage (0.7v). OS2B1 shows fuel trim 0%.
    What could he possible problem with my car?

  • @alanchristensen9198
    @alanchristensen9198 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have found that if that PCV valve is intact on the valve cover then the Intake Plenum will usually be okay too. However, if the car is NOT being maintained with regular oil changes and levels maintained (less n less people seem to know the importance of why & how to do this!) Then this will valve blows... And goes down the line... And if it's as Turbo add the the hoses... Not too mention they probably drive it like first off the Line and I find the Ladies to want to be driving faster n hence engine in worse condition too - this is not scientific! Just by chance with this platform and code... 171 is always unwanted air messing with air/fuel ratio. Was actually surprised this was a MAF sensor when the code was p0171. I never ever solved a code P0171 by replacing or cleaning a MAF. They are read by the PCM and tested on their own... If you saw a whiff of smoke on your air tube and tightened it down... I would personally would have give more effort and time to allow the electronics reset and recalibrate at that point before venturing onward...in fact after cleaning the MAF and re-sealing it in place that could have also stopped unwanted air from entering... I was NOT THERE JUST BEING AN ARM CHAIR QUARTER-BACK ON A SUNDAY 9 MONTHS AFTER THE FACT! I hate to replace parts unless it is absolutely necessary and I am Root Cause of the Problem kinda of Guy! So I think this one is like a NTF/Problem Cleared While Testing. You cleared it...it was an air leak.

    @robertolson7304 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    change your air filter every 6 months or sooner if required... then mass flow sensor willn't get dirty. failure to do proper Maintenace was the cause
