- Today we're looking at an iconic drum set from one of the greatest drummers on the planet: Steve Smith. Steve used this kit in a variety of configurations and with several different musical projects, but most notably a long recording streak of some of Journey's greatest hits.
Check it out in person while you can at West Coast Drum Shop!

Thanks for sharing! I'm 54. Those albums were such a big part of my youth. Steve is one of my top 5... Take good care of that kit! It's pretty special!

he’s currently using a similar kit from that era with a 20” bass drum and 9” depth rack toms on his latest Vital Information album and tour, I believe.
Steve is one of a kind. He knows when something isn’t broken you don’t fix it. He really is one of a kind
I saw this kit in 81ish with Billy Squire at the Ventura fair grounds CA. Pretty cool to see it here. I saw it and I heard it!!
Love those old Sonor kits.
The live album from this period reproduces this energy!❤
WOW!! Simply amazing.
Que fantastico essa pagina da Historia da musica que você contou a todos nós. Obrigado pelo vídeo. Saúde e Luz para você.

Legendary set. Wish I had the cash. Steve Smith signed a drum head for me at Birdland. Then I got drunk and left it on the subway. It was a Black Dot, just like the reso on that 12.
Nice work.
Weren't the Signatures used on escape and frontiers?
The set they show him playing when talking about the last tour he took it on is not the same kit. Completely different!
Do you get all of the drums? 8, 10, 20?
Yep. I'll have the whole collection up on my website where you can check it out early next week.
👍
I can’t think of another drummer who made it big in rock who had such a great time feel and exquisite touch. Awesome set!!
What model is it? Not a Sonor expert. Phonic or something like that?
Phonic
Interesting that the finish is a bit different shade on that 12 inch Tom … with a black dot on the bottom 😂
Same finish
