Pat Stewart is so f@cking cool that he got introduced TWICE tonight at the Bryan Adams concert in Sunrise FL. I have to say it was so cool to get up close to the stage to see this iconic drum kit. I can only imagine how cool it is to be on a major tour and playing a kit bought in high school when you’re still dreaming of being a rock star. What a great sh aow tonight and I loved watching Pat rock that iconic kit. Bryan Adams is an integral part of the soundtrack of my 20s playing drums in a band playing some of these “recent” songs. Best of all tonight they sang happy birthday to me… well maybe not me but for some chick up close and according to Bryan anyone else celebrating a birthday (last night). Thanks guys… YOU ROCKED THE HOUSE
I didn't see 'In the Heat Of the Night' on the set list. sad face What an incredible body of work to pick from. Reckless went Diamond in Canada. a million units +. That means 1 out of 30 people bought it. Crazy to think about......
@@anonuser1Pat Wrote & played on Summer of 69. BA has had two great drummers, I’ve seen them both live. Pat might be a little more Rock & Roll ,so he fits the new album perfectly!
My first cymbals were a Sabina HH 18" Chinese, 16" Thin Crash, and the 20" Leopard Ride. That ride was one of the first ones off the line I believe. The drum store I was at had just gotten it in, and the second I played it I was obsessed, and my dad secretly bought it for me for Christmas. It was my main ride for 20+ years. Still have it and whenever I bring it out it gets compliments. So it was very cool to hear the story of how that ride came to be. Thanks to Pat for the story, the years of great parts, and of course for my Leopard ride!
Saw you guys last night in Austin TX. Pat and I loved the drum sound and your playing was high energy and fun to watch. The whole night was made enjoyable by the quality of the band and Bryan still sounds amazing. Thanks for the awesome show!
Good songs do play themselves . 100% agree You don’t mess with perfection. And Bryan has a lot of perfection Pat is a great meat and potatoes drummer. Solid as they come. I have followed him for many years being an huge Bryan Adams fan in the 80s. Thank You Pat for this cool tour of a great kit.
Pat is an amazing player, and a fantastic live performer in every band I've seen him with. It's great to seem him back with Adams, and I'm sure it's a great vibe for the whole band. Great rundown on the gear. Neat story on history of the vintage kit. Those Leopard rides became a big thing back in the day. Especially being in Canada, I do remember Pat being a pretty prominent "poster boy" for Sabian back in the mid '80s. You can tell he's especially proud of that long term relationship.
Saw you guys in Summerside, Prince Edward Island in 2022, I was on tour, a night off, happened to be in town, too rainy to camp...what a great show. The kit sounded great. I'm a rock drummer too. Doing a run with BA would be incredible. See you again someday.
1) it's great to see a drummer bringing his very own, dear old beloved drumkit on the road, even in a production as big as this. Just like he's still playing weekend gigs in local pubs and clubs with his friends 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 2) it's curious the "top rims swap" thing, die-cast on the Ludwig toms and triple-flanged on the Gretsch snare, as "iconic" as "Gretsch with die-cast and Ludwig with triple-flanged" is. Go for the sound 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I believe Haywire's drummer Sean Kilbride used the Leopard ride on the recording of Get Off back in 92'. You can hear the power of the bell on a number of tracks.
I like that a lot of pro drummers are currently refurbishing older kits and using them live, a lot of drum companies are just not the same anymore, so going back to drums that were made in a better era for drums is a great idea.
@@morbidmanmusic this is an 8 inch deep wood shell. Rim shots on my 6.5 deep steel with the triple flange hoops are louder, but I don't go crazy with rimshots anyway. And on top of that, I'm back to using Steve Gadd sticks, and they're pretty tough.
I always loved the drumming on Bryan’s records and played along religiously but I never knew who Pat was so this is very cool to finally know! I need to now figure out which tracks are Pat and which are Micky.
Pretty easy to tell the difference, it's obvious around when Pat plays at 15:24 , bot great but they play differently., Mickey has a superb groove with 16ths on the hats, je gas more nuance on the ride and his snare backbeat sits a tad behind making his overall sound absolutely fat and fabulous. His sound is signature and easily picked on most recordings he has done from Alice Cooper to the Cult, Hall Oates etc.
Seems to be the luck of the draw with these kits. I had a Ludwig Classic downbeat silver sparkle for about 25 years - the bass drum and floor tom slightly yellowed, but the rack tom looked brand new the whole time
I wonder if the newer Ludwig kits will hold up this well in 50 years. This is Probly the most sought after drum kit for studios. They just do that "thing"
Classic maple wasn’t a thing back then. They didn’t debut that shell till the late nineties. This might be classic or super classic which were maple/poplar shells.
No he is right. I had a black kit in 1979 with power Tom's and 24 bass like the one shown and they were 6 ply all maple. Awesome kit. The bd was ferocious in its sound. My kit didn't have the rivet finish on the wrap seam you can see on the floor Tom. I prefer the more modern Yamaha silver sparkle but the Ludwig one was defining. Ian Paice obviously and I think Joe Morello
@@markrushton1516 Ludwig didn’t make an all-maple kit until the classic maple, and those debuted in the nineties. Also…this is not a dig, those old Ludwig’s sound amazing. Maple/poplar is such a good combo that they brought it back. It’s also what Gretsch uses in the Brooklyn series. All-maple doesn’t mean better, in all circumstances.
My memory as well is that "all maple" wasn't a thing for Ludwig at that time. I agree that the maple combination shells from that period were killer. 👍
@@yanicksteiner2864 from what I heard he was talking time away because of COVID and wanted to spend time with his family but not sure if he is officially retired
Wouldn't be hilarious if a millennial tripped out and said, that's a '79 Ludwig kit. They're hard to find. How did you get it? And Pat says, I bought it at a music shop in 1979.
I was getting the feeling from interviews I've heard with Mickey that he was enjoying being at home with family these days. There likely isn't anything more to it than that. Pat is certainly THE guy for the Adams gig, in Mickey's absence. Both fantastic players, and I'm sure there is great comfort with Pat being part of the long term musical family.
@@MiddleMalcolm Great point, he's been touring non stop for many decades with Bryan..good on him for setting priorities. Agreed about Pat, an absolute monster on the kit and a helluva pedigree with Adam's. ✌
@@batwithglasses Like a lot of people who typically aren't in the spotlight, it's been nice to have access to some fantastic "podcast" conversations with Mickey over the past few years. If you're a fan, he's on TH-cam on several shows/channels. 🙂

I love how every piece of his kit is a different brand. He keeps it real.
Awesome to see old drums sounding so good !
Pat's fill choices on Summer of 69 are UNREAL. Never gets old. Amazing
Did Pat actually write the parts, or was it Mickey Curry?

Love PAT as a real intense Drummer. Good Luck to him!!!
GORGEOUS SURPRISE ! THX XXL Mr PAT STWARD !
So enjoyed this . Thanks Pat
Very cool! I wish I still had my 1969 Ludwig kit in Blue Mist. Not as bright and shiny as the Blue Sparkle.

One of the hardest hitters going, but never too much that chokes the drum. So solid!

Silver Sparkle option in every drum line from every manufacture is something we all can get behind.

Always liked him with Matthew Good & The Odds.
Decided to try ( cheaper ) diecast hoops for the first time on a snare, and I'm liking that. It focuses and also seems to boost the sound a bit.
rim shots are much louder but you also eat more sticks with diecast hoops.

Waiting impatiently for the Brooks Wackerman's tour kit video.
Interesting to see a die cast at the bottom on the snare and on top on the toms.
That 9500 chain pedal was not the entry, but top line btw.
I must be getting old. '79 doesn't seem that long ago. Pretty sure I had a Ludwig catalogue from that year.
Dude use the atlas cymbal arm mount from ludwig... they are awesome!
Tama tension locks, they'r the best!
Cool kit and I'm surprised that the finish didn't yellow with age

We need the vault crashes back.... Even though AAX v crashes are basically them.
Where is the diecast hoops you were speaking of?
The rack tom has die cast on it but not the floor toms
Pat ( the axe )
Sounds stellar and I think actually he plays a tad better than Mickey as well (Mickey of course a great drummer)!
Thats a laugh.... Mickey has deeper pocket than this guy all day long

Yeah, the first all-maple shell was Rogers' XP*8, which debuted just around 1978-79 I think. Ludwig stayed with the maple-poplar "sandwich"
