I think the worst path is my first playthrough. I went to the catacombs first, beat pinwheel after many tries and then rested in the tomb of giants bonfire and stayed lost and trapped down there for some time. I eventually found the orange fog gate that you need the lord vessel to open, didn't know what to do and didn't play the game again for over a year.

We are missing some serious min-maxing here. Crystal Ring Shield, for example, is a truly horrible weapon and can be obtained early on. I agree with your start, for the most part... but there are some serious optimizations through the midgame. All these optional bosses, yeah they're sprinkled in so that you're strong enough for the later ones. Avoid all of them, including ceaseless. The ceaseless skip not only misses the souls, but also provides a truly infuriating skip. So, here is the route: 1) Go back to asylum. Get the rusted iron ring. Kill stray demon, only for the souls that it drops, then go to Andre via Darkroot so that we skip Taurus. Make sure to grab the grass crest shield, we will need it. Buy the Crest. 2) Kill the butterfly, and immediately go to blighttown to farm the leeches. These drop large tits at a whopping 5% rate. Do this until you can upgrade the grass crest to +10. 3) Use the best shield in the game to make the worst: The crystal ring shield, and use it for the rest of the game. Kill Andre for good measure, preferably without buying the weapon smithbox. Get the stone armor, and kill the 4 kings. Use all souls to get int for more scaling, and do not level any other stat for the rest of the game. You are allowed to level resistance. Don't buy repair powder. 4) Kill quelaag, then do ceaseless skip. Rest at the bonfire. Grab a now useless ember, the Chaos ember. Now you have to do ceaseless skip in reverse. Not sure if it's even possible at base vitality. 5) Go past andre to the gargoyles, kill them, and go backwards through the burg for the blue tearstone ring. Wear it and the rusted iron ring. Do not grab FAP ring. Forget to ring the bell, so run back up to ring it. (I have legitimately forgotten to ring both bells before) Go to sens, and kill Iron G. 5.5) Other notable ring options are the cursebite ring or poisonbite ring. Both are useless. 6) Go straight to Lautrec, invade and kill him, then accidentally swap the blue tearstone ring for the fap ring, breaking it permanently. Kill OnS. 7) Place the lordvessel, and if glitches are allowed, go to DLC and do kilnskip to fight gwyn. If not, avoid dlc at all costs and kill the lord soul bearers while avoiding minibosses and other useful items as much as possible. Make sure to offer 30 humanity to the Fair Lady so that you dont have to fight the centipede demon, and definitely allow Solaire to go mad. Leave the bug hat on the floor to despawn. 8) Kill gwyn. 9) Profit.
I think going straight to Pinwheel and beyond after the Asylum is a pretty bad choice for a kind of casual playthrough. It's bad to go down there and horrible to go up again without the lord vessel. And besides from that there isn't even much good down there. Besides from that the video '"Beginner's Guide" to Dark Souls' from ymfah takes the "not intended" to its absolute limits using a shit tone of glitches, skipping the asylum demon and many other things and fighting the sanctuary guardian as the very first boss.
The worst way to start is definitely choose master key while choosing thief class, lol. Then do some crazy glitch skip until you make Sanctuary Guardian literally your first boss
@@AquaSloth You have to ring both bells and get the lordvessel before you can do the kiln wrong warp. There's no skip for O&S or gargoyles though so they're still required.

I appreciate that! I’ve seen a few comments mentioning how a lot of Souls content is pretty similar and can get stale, which I agree with (to a degree). It’s one of the few franchises I still deeply love and think it’s so interesting to see not only how the devs thought it should be played, but also just player to player. It’s such a unique game experience

Nice video, very entertaining! One tip with the greenscreen: create some distance between you and the greenscreen so your shadow does not touch the greenscreen. This makes for a better key and we wont see your shadow in the final.

Well doing 4 kings first is required for the funny invader covenant, so it is definitely an intended route for some of us. But to he fair it is also brutal at low levels, I would recommend summon the witch, but that requires butterfly iirc.
Same here, but i made it even worse by going down to that flooded city and finding out about wholesome ghosts. Guess what i visited next? Valley of drakes and blighttown. I went in every possible wrong direction before even attempting to go the correct way. Now i have reached O&S, i am stuck on them for like 6 years now.
The only wrong way to play dark souls is to never roll and rage quit at the asylum demon, but considering how that boi be carrying a bakery I affectionately call it the assylum demon Ps don't look up Assylum unless you're into that, not many non ✨Spicy✨ results
i guess the only way you can get even more on the unintended path is by abusing glitches, skipping bosses, whatever it takes to get to the dlc bosses super early.
Here are some things that maek me think "wrong": -shield in right hand, weapon in left -leveling up intelegence only to use a crossbow instead -trolling during coop, and helping as an invader -main weapon being the torch, or bonk with a staff -gratuitous use of every exploit in the game to cheese your way through -farm souls by having forest covenant run off cliff over and over again Those are just a few ideas...
I had an invader in Demon Souls (PS3 version) basically do an entire area for me. It was a real wtf moment. In Dark Souls someone duped 99 Moonlight Butterfly souls and dropped them for me during an invasion (at least I think it was an invasion, but that was years ago).
Expected you to never switch weapons from the broken straight sword for a truly unintended experience. Also disappointed you didn’t ignore every bonfire and chug all your estus before boss fights

To join the darkwraith covenant you have to beat the 4K before getting the lordvessel. If you don't want to walk 30hrs you're gonna have to beat a few bosses pretty low-leveled.
I think the worst playthrough is just to know that Solaire is always ahead of us , and he'd to kill Sif too.... Such a loyal dog. It broke his heart ...
worse choices running to the gargoyles and release Knight Lautrec of Carim from his prison with the master key as a starting gift. after that run down to ash lake next to the dragon covenat and take that bonfire (the only bonfire you will ever touch uptill now) and become cursed on your first try getting back to firelink. without getting any new lvls or weap /spells and so on, and when you get back just kill all the npcs too
I feel like the most unintentional way could be to do nothing that isn't required. Beeline it to every required boss in order, not stopping to pickup any items that you don't need. The game is meant to be explored and you're meant to fight other non-required bosses. Idk, that's just my take.
Pinwheel actually allows you to increase the number of maximum estus flasks, iirc. So there is a viable reason to go to him first, just a really weird one

Worst route glitchless i could think of is after the asylum go back kill asylum demon, go straight into blight town through darkroot basin kill queelag then kill the gargoyles beat sens fortress somehow then get stuck on the painted world

The worst route is going straight to blighttown -> great hollow -> ash lake and run all the way to the dragon. Join the dragon covenant and climb back out

Okay, this play through was the first time I’ve ever fought her where she never turned visible. Every other time it’s like two hits or whatever and she comes back, but she was invisible the whole time. Very odd
I guess the quickest route for that would be Sif, Gargoyles and Quelaag, Iron Golem, O&S, straight up to Duke’s and get the broken pendant, then the DLC bosses. Definitely not an easy route!
This is more of "beating the game sub-optimally." Which is in line with things like "only consumable" and "no dodge" and "torch only" runs. While these aren't optimal strategies, the option to play the game this way is still based on core mechanics. That's part of the genius of Dark Souls difficulty. The difficulty is built into how you choose to play the game. That was definitely an intention by the developers when designing the game. Beating games the way no one intended=glitched runs. It's a huge difference between engaging with the core mechanics of the game and NOT engaging with the core mechanics of the game.
I agree, it could have been much worse. I do kind of want to go back and do another run, but using every glitch I can, as well as a shit order. I guess by that logic, I’m basically speed running it lol

@@AquaSloth technically the trigger is you coming up those little stairs to the landing outside the bonfire where the drake lands for a moment and knocks you back, so you could do the taurus demon and still not spawn the drake
What would make the least amount of sense is my average run thru the game. First, I choose the Thief class and black firebombs to cheese the demon. Then I instantly go thru the Catacombs for the Gravelord Sword / TwoP. Then I mercy kill Quelaag and Ceaseless for extra souls. After that I continue downwards and thru the valley of Drakes to get the Red Tearstone Ring. Then up to the Gargoyles, on to O&S, then Gwyndolin(killing Gwyndolin before O&S makes like half of Anor Londo gone barren alone and depressing, so I usually go O&S first) THEN I go straight for the DLC to get the OP dark magics. After that the order in which I finish the game is arbitrary.
Beating Dark Souls the way no one intended: - Cleric, with the Divine Blessing as your gift. Make sure to save it for when you really need it. - Max out Resistance, it will help you stay alive. - Wear the heaviest armor and don't worry about equip load. Between the armor and Resistance, you'll be plenty tanky. - By that same token, don't worry about wasting points on -Vigor- Vitality, as you'll be tanky enough without any extra HP. - Grab the Winged Spear from the graveyard and the Light Crossbow from Undead Burg. These help you fight from melee or range. - Spear in the right hand, crossbow in the left. You don't need a shield if they never get close. - You can use miracles to heal, allowing you to save estus, or Force to make sure enemies don't get too close. Since you only have one attunement slot you can't have both. - When you get a chance, ascend the spear to Magic and the crossbow to Divine. Put points in INT for better spear damage, ignore STR and DEX. - Speckled Stoneplate Ring will shore up your elemental defenses that your armor won't. You'll need to kill Siegmeyer for the ring. - Grab the Darkmoon Seance Ring from the Catacombs so you can have both Heal and Force attuned. Not gonna lie, I kind of want to try it just to see how utter crap it is. Since SL1 is still viable, it's kind of hard to make a build that can't finish the game unless you're deliberately making it hard on yourself, e.g. by using weapons without the required stats, or putting points into stats you're literally not using at all. At least here something like INT will, in fact, boost the damage of our Magic spear. Maybe overloading ourselves with armor without extra HP will make it impossible to survive, but the Resistance + heavy armor combo might actually pull through, it would just be a horribly inefficient way of getting survivability.
@@AquaSloth @AquaSloth I have in DS1 and 3, they're fun but not exactly good. Plus, it's a dex weapon, so chad strength builders aren't really gonna end up picking one up. I love The Backlogs, aswell as Ymfah and Be And. I would highly recommend checking out Be And if you haven't already!
Idk if you tried but the Stone set has similarly good poise to 4Ks and is just in the Darkroot Garden, so you can pick it up before/after fighting Sif.

If glitches are allowed you can get pretty weird with the boss order. I think you can skip all the way to Seath without killing a single boss.

You can join the covenant as long as you dont talk to frampt before you do them, you dont need to do them early.

Only way to do it worse but feasible is to use weapons that the boss/enemies have the highest resistance to. Like a fire weapon for quelag

I had an invader in Demon Souls (PS3 version) basically do an entire area for me. It was a real wtf moment. In Dark Souls someone duped 99 Moonlight Butterfly souls and dropped them for me during an invasion (at least I think it was an invasion, but that was years ago).

I watched this after my comment on your last video, I think it's better for sure. Your commentary is good too. I feel Iike you're coming from a place of wanting to be on camera (making an assumption), you could cut the game play and maybe just chat about, for example, your feelings on the game with clips, or do interviews or "my thoughts" content. it's still jarring imo.

To join the darkwraith covenant you have to beat the 4K before getting the lordvessel.
If you don't want to walk 30hrs you're gonna have to beat a few bosses pretty low-leveled.
If you have DS Remastered, there's a soul dupe glitch if you want to go that route. Certainly not intended so I'd say it's fair game.
I think the worst playthrough is just to know that Solaire is always ahead of us , and he'd to kill Sif too.... Such a loyal dog. It broke his heart ...

worse choices running to the gargoyles and release Knight Lautrec of Carim from his prison with the master key as a starting gift. after that run down to ash lake next to the dragon covenat and take that bonfire (the only bonfire you will ever touch uptill now) and become cursed on your first try getting back to firelink. without getting any new lvls or weap /spells and so on, and when you get back just kill all the npcs too
Run immediately to the catacombs and farm bonewheel skeletons to SL100 then play the game normally

I feel like the most unintentional way could be to do nothing that isn't required. Beeline it to every required boss in order, not stopping to pickup any items that you don't need. The game is meant to be explored and you're meant to fight other non-required bosses. Idk, that's just my take.

Worst route glitchless i could think of is after the asylum go back kill asylum demon, go straight into blight town through darkroot basin kill queelag then kill the gargoyles beat sens fortress somehow then get stuck on the painted world

Honestly, the true hard path is to immediately run to artorias after fighting sif. Got to take the master down after the pet am i right?
I guess the quickest route for that would be Sif, Gargoyles and Quelaag, Iron Golem, O&S, straight up to Duke’s and get the broken pendant, then the DLC bosses. Definitely not an easy route!
This is more of "beating the game sub-optimally." Which is in line with things like "only consumable" and "no dodge" and "torch only" runs. While these aren't optimal strategies, the option to play the game this way is still based on core mechanics. That's part of the genius of Dark Souls difficulty. The difficulty is built into how you choose to play the game. That was definitely an intention by the developers when designing the game.
Beating games the way no one intended=glitched runs. It's a huge difference between engaging with the core mechanics of the game and NOT engaging with the core mechanics of the game.
I agree, it could have been much worse. I do kind of want to go back and do another run, but using every glitch I can, as well as a shit order. I guess by that logic, I’m basically speed running it lol

fun fact if you skip the taurus demon then the hellkite drake will never spawn on the bridge into the parish
I did not know these were linked, but I did notice that in this play through! There is truly always something new to learn
@@AquaSloth technically the trigger is you coming up those little stairs to the landing outside the bonfire where the drake lands for a moment and knocks you back, so you could do the taurus demon and still not spawn the drake
What would make the least amount of sense is my average run thru the game. First, I choose the Thief class and black firebombs to cheese the demon. Then I instantly go thru the Catacombs for the Gravelord Sword / TwoP. Then I mercy kill Quelaag and Ceaseless for extra souls. After that I continue downwards and thru the valley of Drakes to get the Red Tearstone Ring. Then up to the Gargoyles, on to O&S, then Gwyndolin(killing Gwyndolin before O&S makes like half of Anor Londo gone barren alone and depressing, so I usually go O&S first) THEN I go straight for the DLC to get the OP dark magics. After that the order in which I finish the game is arbitrary.

Beating Dark Souls the way no one intended:
- Cleric, with the Divine Blessing as your gift. Make sure to save it for when you really need it.
- Max out Resistance, it will help you stay alive.
- Wear the heaviest armor and don't worry about equip load. Between the armor and Resistance, you'll be plenty tanky.
- By that same token, don't worry about wasting points on -Vigor- Vitality, as you'll be tanky enough without any extra HP.
- Grab the Winged Spear from the graveyard and the Light Crossbow from Undead Burg. These help you fight from melee or range.
- Spear in the right hand, crossbow in the left. You don't need a shield if they never get close.
- You can use miracles to heal, allowing you to save estus, or Force to make sure enemies don't get too close. Since you only have one attunement slot you can't have both.
- When you get a chance, ascend the spear to Magic and the crossbow to Divine. Put points in INT for better spear damage, ignore STR and DEX.
- Speckled Stoneplate Ring will shore up your elemental defenses that your armor won't. You'll need to kill Siegmeyer for the ring.
- Grab the Darkmoon Seance Ring from the Catacombs so you can have both Heal and Force attuned.
Not gonna lie, I kind of want to try it just to see how utter crap it is. Since SL1 is still viable, it's kind of hard to make a build that can't finish the game unless you're deliberately making it hard on yourself, e.g. by using weapons without the required stats, or putting points into stats you're literally not using at all. At least here something like INT will, in fact, boost the damage of our Magic spear. Maybe overloading ourselves with armor without extra HP will make it impossible to survive, but the Resistance + heavy armor combo might actually pull through, it would just be a horribly inefficient way of getting survivability.
U should do Dark Souls 2 next, you can get pretty wonky with that one I think

@@AquaSloth @AquaSloth I have in DS1 and 3, they're fun but not exactly good. Plus, it's a dex weapon, so chad strength builders aren't really gonna end up picking one up. I love The Backlogs, aswell as Ymfah and Be And. I would highly recommend checking out Be And if you haven't already!
Idk if you tried but the Stone set has similarly good poise to 4Ks and is just in the Darkroot Garden, so you can pick it up before/after fighting Sif.
Someone else recommended this as well! I’ll have to give it a go on the next play through, I didn’t realize it was as good as it was.

After Sif & 4 kings, just do Quaal and gargoyles (you can get to both without encountering any other bosses), get the bowl, do the other lords, and *then* go back and fight taurus demon et al., just before Gwyn...
