- Dexterity been going ham on these Modern Sonic Adventure 2 updates! Now you can boost and it will drain your rings. There are also new level layouts, music changes, SFX changes, Amy has a new model, and you can now use Character Select Plus with this mod now!!! Only with the speed characters so far if you want their Sound Effects.

Finally character select compatible, only for the speed characters so far. Also the boost can be toggled on and off in the mod launcher, so there's the option to turn it off.
There's alot of changes I didn't show, almost all the music has been changed to fit better. Also Dexterity showed me what he's working on for the next update and it's going to be amazing! :)
mods for sa2 have really come a long way. i will always love this game.

Arlisbloxer05 apparently in the original game they were planning that. Explains why the cut scene jumps and why it’s apt who finds sonic without tails

Well they could've given her a stage before she runs into Shadow during the last story. But then again each side had 3 characters playable so it would've shifted too far in one direction I guess.
Amy would’ve been a playable character in the story if her gameplay in SA1 had been better received

It's like modders got bored with Forces quickly (after all, it's Generations with less gimmicks and OC), so they've turned to untapped potential of SA2.

Sonic Adventure 2 is still the best Sonic game especially when trying to get the A ranks.
British Media Bully yes agreed. So far SA2 is the best sonic game in sonic history. Sonic 06 has potential but it was ruined. Story was good though.

Feels like alot of the ring boxes used for platforming could be switched out with enemies

I love the visual updates, but there are points of contention I have with a few things.
-Sonics run cycle still looks weird as hell, especially when viewed from the front. I always held that his run cycle in the original SA2 was his best animated multilayered run cycle. the flip floppy feet run animation from the boost games don't lend themselves well in this one.
- Some voice clips can get grating hearing them over and over (Example being sonics 'GO!'), it was one of the things I thought was really annoying in unleashed. A few grunts for actions like homing attack should be all.
- The level redesign; whoever made them I appreciate their ambition, but there's little in the way of rhyme or reason to the fundamental gameplay design of SA2s speed stages. They break flow far too often, and sometimes just straight skip large sections of the level; there's little spectacle to it either, and often times over rewards the player for taking them. No bueno for me, back to the drawing board with the level design stuff imo.

Akaru i agree with everything but the first imo. I always thought sa2 sonics run was the stiffest and looked weird. Boost games imo got his run down solid with the fluidity in it and semi realism. But his run in here is...odd..

Honestly, I think modern sa2 lost it's charme when voicelines were changed
I like the idea of the skips but maybe they could be harder to achieve or can require more use of speed to get to with a small hint, I.e. a small slope you boost up to and then you homing attack a few enemies then lightspeed dash to go skip part of the level. Otherwise the mod is beat and can be improved upon.

I want to see a level added with Amy on Prison Island before she rescues Sonic, it always felt like there was supposed to be a level with her like that. These modernizations are wonderful and I love the casino level.

I Stole Your Waifu oh we already did! It’s certainly possible to make that a thing, but making custom stages is a pain in the butt, trust me on that one. Wave Ocean’s giving me a hard time so I’ve only been able to port the stage up till the first checkpoint. I don’t think anyone’s actually willing to make this a thing tho :(

That first level was intentionally made like that. I believe it was to replicate what the map maker, having not played Sonic Forces, believes Forces plays like: easy, with lots of rings and power-ups and very few enemies.

"This is an attempt to create a more abstract level type for SA2 and mix things up, so it plays like how I imagine Forces does (never played Forces, by essentially, lots of rings - easily enough to max out at 999 on a decent run - and no enemies). It is meant to be easy, more a change of pace, may later make a hard mode variant."
It's likely that the theme was planned alongside the level's difficulty.

Why is it that these mods always seem to boil down to "Let's skip large swaths of the level and make up for it by yeeting into the sea to play around with floating chunks of geometry" ?

Tbh Like just run the course. Going for the suspended rings for points in the running sections stopped the flow.
Mainly because Sonic Adventure 2 modding at this point is very archaic and most modders tend to lean towards stage editor changes to make the level layout different.
Don't think we're at the stage for full level ports yet so until it gets later down the line this is what we will have to deal with

Yeah. Route 101 you can collect up to.. If not more than 400 Rings per play through.

The next sonic game should definitely be more like this. The boost mechanic is borderline auto scroller mode. It should be an option, but also incredibly risky if unaware of your surroundings

No. That completely defeats the purpose of the boost. The point of the boost is high speed reaction and avoiding obstacles. When you give the boost to an open level it’s just unnecessary.
5:00 I honestly really like those added springs. They're not obnoxiously present like DIMPS likes to do, and they help you continue running on the walls. Nice.

I have to admit, I'm impressed. This mod certainly makes SA2 feel more up to date.

@@TheeMentorDex when I farm for rings in the original SA2B I go through the "Find the Lost Chao" stage of Sonic's City Escape level from start to goal ring until I get a max total of 999 rings. Once I've acquired that amount of rings I will then go and find that lost Chao just to finish the stage, save my collected rings and have another go at the same process again. It's also a good way to farm for extra lives, if you so need it.

I gotta say sonic and shadow being able to run with the aura they leave off also up, is pretty freakin cool to look at, normally you're always in a ball during those trails, so having it while RUNNING looks soooo good.
Looks cool but needs more running sections, the best part about these games instead isn’t the floating and dashing, its the seamless running areas that make you feel cool

This is beautiful, the only thing I’m worried about is the surplus of rings in these stages, it makes it too easy to use as currency for chao black market. Idk maybe I just like grinding stages for rings.

There could be this alternate timeline in which Advance's Secret Base music is actually a remix from this level, where Amy is looking for Sonic on Prison Island.
The character graphics are a much enjoyed improvement. I wonder if you guys are gonna fix the cutscene dialogue, I'd say you guys are doing a swell job

The first level would be a great way to farm rings for the Chao Garden shop.
You can tell this person is a seasoned veteran LOL got the movement and stage knowledge on lock
If we can edit the alternate costumes, we'd have like 6 more characters to mod in. and before anyone says their just alternate textures, eggman and tail's alt costumes chanhe how their mechs work. tails mech is faster but has trouble turning and eggman ends up only having a cannon attached to the front of his. imagine the possibilities.

well in this the spindash is actually faster, but the boost gets you to a high speed quicker as there's no charge up. Also the Spin dash is much better for jumping

Makes me wonder why SEGA decided to abandon the bounce power after SA2. I'm not saying it was the most practical thing in the game (though certainly more useful than the magic hands power-up), but for some reason it felt so fun to me as a kid, and I feel like it makes sense as part of Sonic's kit.

yeah there is, but it's only in the official releases, so 5.0 will have it in the future, and 4.0 has the option.

I can say for certain that there are WAY too many monitors. Ones that contain rings and extra lives, they're thrown out like candy. They could certainly use reduction

Just installing the loader without any mods causes the game to crash after the Sega screen for me. I don't have any problems running the game without the loader installed. Anyone find a solution for this?

First level, too many rings (four or five hundred might have been fine, but 997?), second and third, too many 1-Ups.
Incidentally, a Death Egg Zone Sonic & Knuckles remix instead of the usual theme for that last stage was an interesting choice.
