    Had the soundbar hooked up to a cheap LED projector because the projector's audio was terrible. Huge enhancement. I thought, why not go all the way. Just got the Subwoofer and back speakers to go with it, and it is pretty awesome! We have a more expense surround sound in ceiling speaker setup for our main TV room, but I'm pretty impressed with what I've heard so far with the roku sound. Totally worth it for a relatively inexpensive good surround sound experience.

    So as long as decently new tv with an hdmi arc port you don't need to plug in the optical cable at all. All you have to do is enable arc on your tv and plug your xbox into any of your other hdmi ports on your tv and it will pass through audio from your xbox to your soundbar

      I don't think there's a setting to adjust the volume level for those individual speakers. But some settings to play with would be Volume mode and Expanded stereo. I don't think all video content will use the side speakers. Make sure you're watching content that supports 5.1 to get the full effect.

    I have the same exact setup and while I love it, I have noticed/wished you could turn the sound up on the TV Wireless Rear speakers. Have you experienced this?

    • @davewelike
      @davewelike  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you can currently adjust the volume on the TV Wireless Speakers. You can turn them on/off or adjust for movies/tv or music, but that's it. You could turn down subwoofer, which may or may not allow for TV Wireless Speakers to be heard better.

    • @davewelike

      The bar makes the audio clear, the subwoofer adds more bass, the side speakers add left and right surround sound. The side speakers add the magic. It makes some movies more fun to listen to.

    If you use the ARC HDMI in your TV with the Roku Soundbar or Streambar you will have surround sound for all the devices connected to the TV, no need to use the optical connection. The optical connection is for old TVs that does not have ARC HDMI, the quality of sound is better on HDMI than optical.

  • @glbuls
    @glbuls 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You shouldn't need the optical connection to your Xbox if your sounds bar is connected to the ARC HDMI on your TV. The sound from your Xbox will go thru the TV too your sound bar.

    Would you prefer buying the smart soundbar with the subwoofer Or the 2 speakers with the subwoofer instead?? Thanks.

    • @davewelike
      @davewelike  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a hard question. I like both for different reasons. If you watch action movies subwoofer is cool for extra bass but 2 speakers a super cool for sounds on left and right sides. Many times I get freaked out when sound effects play out of them. Great for horror movies and gaming. So maybe buy the 2 speakers first then subwoofer.

      @@paulstammer4062 the two speakers only work with the smart soundbar or Roku TV. So first step is to get either of those. It seems the soundbar turns off if I’m listening to the wireless and sub. I also don’t see the expanded stereo settings option.

    • @davewelike
      @davewelike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I don't have a Roku TV to try it out on. You should be hearing audio from the soundbar, wireless speakers and sub at the same time. Start off by try switching inputs to the soundbar as that will replace your interface instead of using the built in Roku operating system via the Roku TV.

  • @dennismiller7605
    @dennismiller7605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Dave,
    Maybe you can answer a question. I'm 80 years old and have a hearing problem. I want to use TV ears which are also known as marriage savers. When I turn up the TV so I can her it, my wife has to leave the room. What TV ears do, when they work - is this. It allows one party to listen normally and control the volume on your sound system. Then the person with TV ears puts on headphones and has an independent volume control and can listen without blasting everyone else out.
    Here is the problem. It doesn't always work. If you plug into a headphone jack, it normally cuts out the speaker system. TV ears work if the sound get to the TV and you still have a digital audio port available. It gets more complicated. If the digital audio port is input....not output it won't work.
    What I like about the Roku (we use Roku for our streaming service) sound bar is you can connect to the TV via an HDMI cable for both audio and video. Even if the TV had a digital audio port, I would use HDMI. So my question is this. If you plug a digital audio cable into your TV, does your sound bar still work if you don't plug it back into the Roku....while you are watching Roku channels? Do you know if the digital audio on the sound bar works as output?
    I spent 20+ hours this week trying to get TV ears to work with a very expensive Sony amplifier. Spoke with Sony and Samsung and was told I have a choice, surround sound....or tv speakers and TV ears. I am NOT giving up surround sound.
    Thanks for your time,
    Dennis Miller

    • @davewelike
      @davewelike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roku has a feature called Private Listening. Some Roku devices have it baked into the remote that you plug in headphones. Other times you can use the Roku app with headphones to listen privately. This free app would be needed for Roku surround soundbar. So it might make sense to get this smart soundbar or a streambar or a Roku TV or a Roku TV Ready Soundbar device. All depends on what equipment you want to replace.
      I don't know if this works with audio that's not coming from Roku channels such as Bluray or gaming console. I can't test it right now as I'm away from my Roku Smart Soundbar.

    • @dennismiller7605
      @dennismiller7605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davewelike It is not private listening that I want. Basically they have a jack in the remote that works with headphones. That cuts out the sound to the surround system when I try to use it.
      TV ears don't do that. It allows the surround sound to work normally. That way my wife can set the speakers to her comfort level.....while I can tune the headphones to my level and they both work simultaneously. I also posted on Roku and I'll see what they say.
      Thank you,
      Dennis Miller

    • @davewelike
      @davewelike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh didn't know that allowed for dual audio control. I don't know if a way to have that work with Roku. When you plug in the headphones then the audio from the soundbar stops.

      @@davewelike My guess is that it will work if you use the HDMI from the Roku to the TV and then plug into the digital audio out from the TV. I want to figure it out before I spend a ton of money and lot of time. I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff and then have to take it back. The TV ears product I am looking at says you need a digital audio out to make it work. Headphone jacks normally cut out the speaker sound. Thanks for the effort.
