Welcome to one of my DREAM cars! This was totally unexpected and an absolute treat. Would you daily drive an Ami where you lived? I hope Stellantis finds a way to sell these in the US because this is truly fantastic. What an experience! Thanks again to Valeo for letting me and Jordan take this for a drive.
Sometimes I feel like you’re my brother from another mother I feel your energy through this video and would love to have the chance to meet you sometime how long is this Vegas convention going on and is it open to the public or only the media staff to drive these vehicles..🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Too expensive for product that is too much garbage
I’d have driven one when I lived in a city, but now I’m out in the sticks, so my ID4 will have to do 🤣
You look like you were having so so much fun! 😸
I might have missed it, but I couldn't find info on range.
Any idea? I guess its less for the tuned version.

Your enthusiasm is contagious. I’ll be looking for these when we visit Paris.

Now imagine driving this car in an old city centre of a European city. Like Paris, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam. With all of it's narrow streets everywhere.
This Ami is like the modern day (original)Mini or (original)Fiat500. Very much like a Smart.
Btw, those flip-up door windows are 100% Citroën 2CV so a real connection to the past succes of Citroën.
As a fellow car nerd. I love your genuine enthusiasm. Great stuff🙏🏻👊
A quick walk-around on that car really is a quick walk-around.
0:55 Yes you can use French license plates in the US as long as you have coverage for up to 12 months in a row. Afterwards you either have to proof the re-export of the car or that it has been scrapped. Another option is to then properly import it.
Yes, or you could just take off down a narrow alley way and evade the police like Kyle would probably do! :)
@@jamespaul2587 why would you get in any trouble without any need?
It's always possible the manufacturer imported, and they can run indefinitely I think... although they may end up being locally plated at that point
Fabulous. A 'tuned' Ami is almost as speedy as my 1990 Citroen 2CV6 Charleston with a top speed of 115 kph and 29 hp.
Complete with 2CV flip & clip windows. What a hoot...
Wow, what a brilliant car.
I saw one featured a while back and wasn’t sold on the looks, but now that the symmetrical design has been pointed out I’m blown away. Pure genius of economical design packaging.
The enthusiasm for the supplied fast model tested was fun, but the standard spec slower model means that you could hand the keys over to your cranky 14 year old & chill. 👍
At least two versions should be available. Here in France 45 km/h (28 miles/h) it's definitely too slow. In a city, speed limit is 50 km/h and inter cities roads are limited between 80 an 90km/h (55 miles/h).
This updated version could be a great success for many workers in suburds, countryside...
@@Antoineforum I'm not sold on the safety of it at higher speeds, I was driving behind an original VW Beetle on a blustery day & say it levitate into the next lane at only 36mph.
That added to braking quickly at higher speeds on its short wheel-base does inspire me with confidence.
For short heavy urban traffic, the standard model would be perfect. As an example, I used to cycle on a 3 lane road with medium traffic & I often took off next to motorists at traffic lights & while I didn't keep up with them, they got held up by the next red traffic lights & I was able to take off alongside them at the next set of lights once they turned green.
One day was a real crack-up, I was cycling on a 43℃ day, drinking hot water from my BLACK hydration bottle with sweat pouring off of my chin & elbows. The car next to me had music blasting with the windows up & I was kinda envious. BUT, we were there for a while & saw that his knuckles were tightly clenched & white & though I'm not that good at lipreading it was obvious that he was MEGAagro. Sure enough, he flattened it at the lights & I joined him at the next set of lights, but riding a bike is risky enough so I didn't even make eye contact. 😉

Dans beaucoup de grandes villes la vitesse maximum est maintenant 30km/h.....
@@fastnbulbouss Majoritairement l'hyper centre.
Grinning from ear to ear. Love watching the micro car vids.
I am just as excited as you for this vehicle and have been contacting our local ride sharing service to see when they will get these in, so hilarious we love our quirky vehicles!

This was truly awesome Kyle, you were driving a slightly larger adult version of a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe (race version) and having the time of your life! :) In many ways, I think this is much better than an Arcimoto, more comfortable and protected from the weather with reasonable range and charging at less than half the price!
This guy is amazing. Having fun with an AMI or a Twizy when everyone else is looking at them mockingly with a Jeremy Clarkson's look :D
Indeed seems to be a basic but fun car. It definitely meets some needs of some people or companies.
Definitely, you're the first north American to do this in North America 🇪🇺🇺🇲
I worked with Valeo air conditioning and refrigeration products. Their engineering supports was really good.
A 50 mph Citroen Ami should be the norm!
This video could be one of the most informative video about Ami without marketing b.s. Thank you for the video.
grinning at your enthusiasm the entire time watching, that was fun.
Now that was interesting! This is the performance the Ami should have as standard, it would make it much more useable and therefore desirable.
I have actually reserved one by paying a reservation fee, ready for its launch in the UK this spring.
Love your enthusiasm. Also love the graphics, the lime green and white really transforms the car. Much better than the standard colour. I think wrapping this car is a must.
Thanks also for showing a fair bit of detail around the outside and the inside of it. It looks really cool and nicely finished.
Great and informative video, thanks
The "normal" Ami is restricted to comply with the quadricycle legislation in France - this is why a teenager can drive it without a license (pretty much like a moped, but with 4 wheels and a sunroof). Also, keeping it slow makes it so that you don't need to pack it with safety equipments to keep it safe : its plastic shells is sturdy enough that if you drive it into a wall at 28 MPH, a safety belt is enough to keep you in one piece. At 50 MPH, it's very unlikely.
If you need something faster, get a driving license and the Renault Twizy instead - less comfortable, far more expensive (on top of that, stuff like windows and doors cost extra) but engineered to actually drive faster.
Lime green and white should definitely be an option
Love your excitement! Ordered one and can't wait. Such a hoot but how lucky you are to come across Valeo and drive a hacked version! Best wishes :-)
Could easily do everything locally with one. Work, market, bars, need soon.
It would suit me perfectly as well. I'm retired, so I don't have to think about going to work, but there's a shopping plaza less than 5 KM away that has a liquor store, hardware store and grocery store, and in the other direction, about 3 KM away is my favourite pub. All these would be accessible by 50 km/h streets. If you were going 45, I don't think you'd get many complaints.
That's brilliant! I love the symmetrical body/door panels and the goofiness it causes to the layout.
I wholeheartedly approve of the formation of the Ami Football/Soccer League.

@@MeandMonAmi that’s actually awesome
i love the symmetrical design. What an incredible saving by cutting the amount of parts in half!!!!!
I've been wondering a lot about tuning the AMI, but this is the first evidence I've found and didn't disappoint. What I'd love to see in the UK models is tuning to allow them to go faster than the french models because in the UK you have to have a full license to drive them, unlike in France. I would never suggest these go on a motorway, but we have a lot of 40mph roads in the UK and around London where holding up other drivers could be detrimental. So I'd love to see Citroen lift the limit on the UK AMI's to 40mph. The fact we're getting proper connectors instead of wall plugs in the UK models is enough to differentiate them obviously for me to allow for a software change as well.
I'm from the UK too (Scotland) and would also love an AMI. As far as I know, Citreon will never lift the top speed limit due to legislation (because it's actually a quadracycle) but I would imagine aftermarket tuning companies will be able to raise the top speed. I think I will take the plunge, buy one and pray someone can raise the top speed to 35/40mph.
@@Steven-jn2cw exactly, the 40mph roads are the issue for me in the uk, if it can do 40 it’s perfect. Just 12mph more! Got to be someone that can hack the software.
The twizzy is a quad cycle and versions of that are allowed to do 50mph in the uk
this is the new 2CV. So cute!! I love it!! It even came with a charming French man. Salut!
It’s definitely not the new 2cv
@@alanmay7929 it's fun, small, simple, affordable... it's the spirit of the 2CV
@@kevinn1158 wrong it’s not, the 2cv was made to perform seriously well on very bad and uneven terrains to deliver fragile rings like eggs, carry pregnant women ……. The suspension of the 2cv is the big deal here, also it was a 4 seater car.
I was lucky enough to drive an Ami around Cambridge UK a few months ago. Great fun and attractive lots of attention from tourists. The seats are offset so not too cramped .
I think the beeping noise was telling you the handbrake/parking brake is on, maybe just the first click.
This video made me smile.
I love that you love these tiny smart cars
Hi! Congratulations to Valeo. We need the 80km/h version in Europe too! Greetings Matt 😃👍
Exactly, because the 45 km/h-version is like a moving road block.
Awesome, this just proves the Ami has more to give,
Especially when it comes to the top speed!
Any range increase?
Can you imagine this as a Police car? I saw one on the Greek island of Halki.
Dude! I just got on your channel from the Chicago Auto show. This vehicle ROCKS! The price. Comparable to a higher end e bike. With a roof, horn, and the crazy look from people I am looking for. Are you sure they don't sell it in the USA? What other "smaller" evs are out there? Thanks for taking one for the team to bring us this footage.
I really don't understand it. Why wouldn't they sell them in the US? Maybe they can't produce enough
Ami: Unleashed!
Citroen, they should take note of that!
lolololololololol.....love it! I like the car share idea. A grocery getter for carless city dwellers.
I love that the same panels are used for the from and back. Super quirky
Looks like a great little car!
I’m crying. I want one so bad. Citroen please.
Loved watching this .

I saw one in Rome last month. It's an excellent machine for those narrow streets and tiny parking spaces. But I'd really like to see the Microlino on the road. :-)
Me too. Would love to see him review one. It is cute as well but more reasonable specs. This one seems more like an electric bike and the other would be closer to a golf cart
I like this idea but I'm afraid of being hit by a big car in an Ami. A little more power would give me more confidence in being able to get away if a big car gets too close. If I had one, I'd probably restrict its use to neighborhood streets leading into the slower road to grocery store. However, it could be a nice backup in case of car breakdowns or having more drivers than cars in the family all needing to be in different places at once. A cooler could fit in the front luggage area for carrying groceries.
What do you think about the XBUS?
Some cities in the northwest need these little vehicles I think. That's just my opinion but that would probably help a lot of people Not have to wait for the bus 😂
Especially in horrible weather conditions. Maybe it should come standard with a "stuck button" that indicates to a city network a small electric car had been stranded and it displays the basic info and consumption. If the battery is low and weather is getting worse they should know to immediately get help there right away. It may be a standard tech that helps prevent people from freezing to death like in seattle storms or other cities
Excellent.......said in a Mr Burns voice.

Kyle, I'm so stoked you finally could give the Ami a spin. And obviously, with the "Performance" prototype! :) With the Kyle's signature Starbucks cup in the cupholder. I'm dying 🤣. You don't make this stuff up. Especially on the Vegas strip, people probably took you for a maniac lol, I love it!!! Now you need to import one ahahah
Great review,I would buy one of these in the US for sure.
I love the car and would definitely get one for my teenage kid if I had one, that I would probably borrow from time to time. The alternative in France being getting them a scooter which is less safe. With that said, the fact it's a "quadricycle" means that it doesn't have to adhere to any car safety standards. No crash test, no airbag, etc. It's light at less than 450Kg. So In the US where everyone is driving a Tahoe like we see when he enters the street, I would be worried.
I want one! It looks like you had more fun than you’re allowed in Las Vegas!

Hey Kyle! Loved this car! Question: how did you drive without your glasses?! LOL I guess the view was so good you didn’t need them! Thanks for the video!
Like my first drive in a smart car .. it only looks small from the outside .. driving it looks a lot of fun . In a small accident swap the front and rear panel and claim the other guy / gal .. ran into you .. LOL.
It's so cute! What does it want to be when it grows up?
this car is amazing. i live in new york city and this would be such a great sharing/subscription car here, or any city. love it
I'll freely admit I love this car but I know I'd find the standard 28mph version a bit too restrictive so I'm glad to hear there might be a faster version as that would allow me to use more roads. I'd also like to see an optional expanded battery pack. Another thing they could add might be sound deadening within the cabin. I've only seen one Ami in the wild and it looked stunning in grey. If you're into unusual minimal electric vehicles then you might want to have a look at electric unicycles - I have a Gotway Nikola+ that's about the same size as a wheel but offers a 50 mile range and a potential max speed of 40mph.
It’s limited to 28 mph because in France you don’t need a drivers license to operate it. It’s classified as a “voiture sans permis” (unpermitted car). There are something like 60,000 voitures sans permis me on French roads today. What a country!
Wait a second, are those JW Speaker headlights? If so, they're working smarter by going off the shelf.
Yes, a 80 kmh version !
Not for the public, 45km instead 🤦♂️
Don't be sorry you didn't crush the Audi Etron😁
When you have the 45kph version, are you able to tune it to a higher topspeed yourself?
Did you ever figure out the beeping? I kept expecting it to just stop in the middle of the road.
Thats so cool
Love it. Its my best friend too.

Well Done 👍
Love it! I bet it would be popular in the US. I could see it popular for San Francisco and downtown/uptown areas. Also in gated communities that have shops and restaurants but I wish there was a second model that went at least 55 miles an hour for two lane roads. Most highways in Texas are 75 mph. Wish it would charge for 200 miles
@Out of Spec Reviews Hi I like it the Ami EV in USA, but if I wish I wanted to purchased them where can I get it? let me know if you want to have a comments about that Ami EV car from France shipping into USA, thanks?
Love the windows
When you have only one of those in the US you do not need a license plate.. great car.
How long is the battery likely to last? I presume the Ami doesn't have a battery cooling system? Is this likely to reduce the lifespan of the battery? Or does does the low voltage of the system (48v) reduce likelihood of any battery lifespan issues?
Only just now saw a link to the video, so 7 months later my input may be too late... Anyway, I got the German version (Opel Rocks-e); slightly different colour scheme from the Ami. Opel gives you a three year warranty on the battery. No battery cooling/heating system - but a *very* protective battery management that is reducing battery load (for both charging and discharging) when the battery temperature starts getting near freezing. Which means you might only be able to go up that small hill at walking speed at subzero (Celsius) temperatures.
Super, super, super mobilite auto, bravo Citroën.

Probably just another one asking for help with a tuned AMI; do you think that there is any change we could have access to a tuned software for an AMI? Just asking because of his answer "of course"
Cheers mate
In normal cars the side panel with door(s) of one side is the mirror image of the other side. But at the Ami it isn´t, and that´s why the doors are hinged differently.
Was that beeping the handbrake?
Definitely want to see a roof box on this,
Would solve its storage limitations.
How good is the heater, cos it's freezing where I live.
It would be nice to finally bring some AFFORDABLE ev's to the US market.
Hi I live in Portugal and I have an Ami I would like to know how I can unlock it to go faster if you know how I can do it, I would appreciate it if you tell me how. Thanks
This is an AMI tweaked by Valeo, not the standard one. They did not only remove the speed limit, but changed the electronics and batteries and, probably, modified the drivetrain.
@@chefchaudard3580 They said "hardware it's the same, all is software. Speed limitation is locked by electronics"
@@koppernic i read some articles about the Valeo AMI. the details are confusing (some say it is the same Citroen car without speed limiter, some others that it is a different prototype powertrain, ...). Valeo says they propose the eAccess powertrain which speed can range from 45 to 100 km/h, but with no details (is it a software limit or are there some hardware modifications?).So, you may be right.
This plates are legal in France, don’t know for USA. Compare to the twizy it’s more confort, better brakes. Take to compare the same specification, i mean 5hp for both, this Ami is a Valeo prototype.
Very interresting informations about limitation speed and power, the VCU software is the key....
I believe these may be on a car share service in Washington DC for anyone to rent :)
You should have a look at the Microlino. Like the Ami, but better in any aspect.
I would love to see a Microlino in the States, but it could be a while. We need the reimaged Isetta here!
That is a smart car, you do not need a computer to make a car "smart", you just need to remove all dumb things that you have in a car to make it smarter.
Is it similar to twizzy that has also 2 options 45 Km H and 90 Km/ h? Have Twizzy and Ami same chassie?
Come on valeo, let us remap our ami’s! Any aftermarket places that allow it?

Have you considered the ElectraMeccanica Solo? They'll be made in Mesa, AZ later this year.
6:48 department 38, that is Isère, Grenoble.
Would make it even more interesting, if we could get it with a 45 km/h limit, then order an upgrade for 80 km/h later if we want that. After everyone in our household turn old enough for and gets a regular drivers license.
So you can't buy the tuned version?
What’s the range on these things with it tuned like this? Honestly I think in a city I could actually use this if it got at least like 100mi range but It needs level 2 charging to really make sense for apartment dwellers.
That might be an option if the prototype dual motor version with twice the battery pack is produced
Speaking of NC what are the laws for this car in this state?
In an emergency or for safety against road rage. Is there a way to lock the doors? No security lock on inside of door whilst you are in the sitting in the car , anyone can just open the door.
I would normally want to correct the mispronunciation of 'Citroën' (citron means lemon lol), but if I had the chance to buy this little car I'd proudly plaster it with lemon stickers and wrap it yellow too 🤣

I contemplated ordering one of these, but was unsure how the Ami will perform during the winter on icy roads/snow here in the north of the UK and how good the 'hairdryer' heater will be when temperatures reach such as -8C . Plus there doesn't look to be a rear window wiper or washer which we do really need in the UK.
