Hi, Need your advice on buying keycaps as I am new to overall mechanical keyboards. How should we go about buying the keycaps. Do we look for keycaps compatible with the keys we have (like Geteron Switch etc) it do we go by the size of original keys that came with keyboards. For example when I did a quick search for 'keycaps' on Amazon, I couldn't see any size mentioned in the listing. Thanks in advance.
@@SwitchandClickOfficial thanks for the reply - I've seen all that but my question was in most listings they don't mention the size or any other spec which we can look for.... So what I am asking, what are we supposed to look for? Do we look for keycaps that fit the keys or these are standard irrespective of the brand of the keys? How do we know the key sizes of not listed and how to make sure they will fit our keys?
Hey, I was wondering if you could recommend an RGB mechanical keyboard for me. I am looking for something tenkeyless or at least like 96% compact like the K4. I have a mac laptop and a PC so I was hoping to get something that worked with both. I'd prefer to spend under $100. Any advice/recommendations?
I've read issues on using cherry profile keycaps on northfacing switches so I kinda hesitating on buying cherry profile but i definitely would want those as my keycaps :(
@@SwitchandClickOfficial Cool thanks! I've never heard of a non-programmable keyboard being upgraded via firmware update. That will be interesting to see if if that's what they do or if it's a hardware plug-in or something. I remember there being a chip you could buy to turn the HHKB into a programmable board.
How do you know if some keycaps wont fit on other keyboards, i was thinking of getting a keychron K2 65% and with it a set of keycaps (bc i kinda think the grey is boring) but i dont know how to check if they would fit my keyboard?

@@SwitchandClickOfficial Thanks for your reply. That really sucks when you have functions markings on keycaps and can't find replacements. I'll just have to remember where they are or maybe get them custom made.
You just have to choose the one that suits your typing experience most. Since most of the signature sound of the keycap itself are overshadowed by the sound of the Clicky switch.
Thanks for covering the budget end of keycaps. Would like to see and honest perspective on the differences between budget and expensive keycaps. I.e. is the quality or feel much better or is it just to do with production volumes and colour ways.

@@SwitchandClickOfficial @Switch and Click ok. Current kb: full hyperx alloy elite with cherry red/keycaps I randomly came across (ty YT algorithm)I really enjoy the content (like how u both go more about sound/feel even as hard as that is to convey but still, its stuff i reallyh think matter in kb for me personally). So sorry for hte qs and hope you can help. Feel free to send me your afiliate links so you can get cred/paid for helping me because this is bascially my last hurdle in before buying/building the keeb. Thanks! 1) have you noticed a difference between weighted plates that change the sound? 2) how much of a difference in sound is there between kb enthusiasts (like taeha) that use multi mouspads vs 1 large gaming pad. I use CM mp510 XL. Ive read it makes it softer/quieter. fyi, i dont want to go down this route as a competitive gamer. 3) how much or little is the sound of the KB change if 2 kbs were relatively teh same? example being 2 60% with linears all lubed, with stabs etc, but one is a steel frame while the other is aluminum? In previous video you mentioned how the sound changes due to the size/space within the kb, makes sense. 4) is it possible to get a frame with less the 6 degree angle in a "high profile board"? I just like the look of a high profile (also it seems to keep less grit out vs non high profile but 6 degree angle is a bit much (i dunno what my Alloy elite is, couldn't find it), syndrome of too large of hands i feel like. Ive tested on my kb with kickstand up/down and down is way more comfy. I use a wrist rest on my left hand only, jus more comfy to use wasd where I can put the weight of my wrist/arm on (i have a shit chair, will change but coming at end of the month so its not ideal arm/keeping shoulders square to get consistent aim) 5) hot swap vs solder: is there a difference in sound? all things in keeb the same hypothetically, that running a hot swap vs solder would change the sound? 6) keycap: does have a thicker keycap mute the sounder further? Fell in love with this: The sound I'm going for is this from Taeha: th-cam.com/video/VG1RMUu9Ghg/w-d-xo.html Even the clack of it, I love in that set up but I'm trying to eliminate as many variables as I can in order, to get a better picture of the sound (so been testing stuff on my setup, keys i use the most/least, backlight kb etc). Optum tech: th-cam.com/video/1KOgfGWewsc/w-d-xo.html So basically I was surprised (except for the clank at top i didnt like but that maybe because his keeb is on his desk, mine wont be, itll be on top a control style XL mousepad). looking at his specs: basically its the frame and plate that are main differences, but the sound is close-ish. Basically looking to build a keeb that gets as close the the Taeha cannonkey build. After hearing that it made me kinda meh my kb, its scratchy, i bang into the numpad all the time because im a low sens arm/palm grip, so looking to really go smaller. Luckily im not too price sensitive (ok not goin keycult 2k big but my budgeting like 5) but I am time sensitive (not gonna wait til end of the yr type deal). I don't want to wait months for a kbdfan/keycult build. In terms of my likes, Ive had clickys (razer TE greens, nice sound but loud) so reds are fine but scratchy. dont care for windows home key or not, I never use it. I do bang on my board cuz have large thick dumb fingers so my fine articluation between my various fingers/fingernails isnt world class musician type, more the opposite (too many jammed fingers as a kid playing back in the day) so I usually bang harder on my kb. Having tried other boards with cherry brown/blue/red/black etc Red was the best feeling to me after razer greens. brown felt a bit mushy and didnt like how it felt when i bottom out, which is basically what if eel for the rest of the stuff ive tried, so as long as I can get closer to reds feel (but smoother/cleaner/less scatchy) and its not really mushy then its good enough for me. So in your expertise, would it be better for me to buy like a Ducky s1 or something similar, tear it apart (keycaps/switches/plate?), build it up or should I just order my parts? To me, got nothing but love respect to those who are into keebs but to me, this is more of a 1x deal (i may buy diff keycaps) so mos def wanna do it right the 1st time aka well designed nice frame, with nice keycaps/keys that I love. Apologies for my ramblings but these are the thigns that go thorugh my head when reseraching stuff. Your channel was a great YT algorithm find, great content right up my alley, learned lots of new stuff. Lastly, after all the research, this is the want list: switches: tealios v2 keycaps: something i like plate: alu (or fr4?) keyboard: high profile 65-70% or TKL with lil to no angle lube: krytox 205g0 (or whatever is similar) stabs: lubed/clipped (something bullet proof/good-nice) Thanks again!

Of these key caps which are the thickest?
Would you mind share the resources that you buy those keyboard, keycaps, and switches and group buys. Thank you
@@SwitchandClickOfficial thank you! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LuSeaBR_qinNxBPnLV8m5ZZvJweNo6A0wEDvObJ4OMk/edit#gid=0 this one is good for keycaps!
@@SwitchandClickOfficial awesome thank you so much.
I was already a fan of pbt but know, my mind explode
Hi ! I’m looking for budget black pudding pbt keycaps (like hyperx ones) for a keychron k2. Do you have any recommendation?
What are those switches? I cant find the link in the description
where did you get the blank blue cap for the K6's rgb key (top right) ?
Honestly you can look at the shine as the sort of Patina equivalent for Mech Keyboards 🤔
Keycap makers really need to support European layouts more -_-

Hi, Need your advice on buying keycaps as I am new to overall mechanical keyboards. How should we go about buying the keycaps. Do we look for keycaps compatible with the keys we have (like Geteron Switch etc) it do we go by the size of original keys that came with keyboards. For example when I did a quick search for 'keycaps' on Amazon, I couldn't see any size mentioned in the listing. Thanks in advance.
For the size and a cross-shaped stem: switchandclick.com/2020/07/08/will-it-fit-finding-keycaps-that-will-fit-your-keyboard
Itll have a picture that shows the entire set usually
TNX FOR THE TIPS, JUST ASKIN, IF I WANT KEYCAPS THAT REALLY SHINES RGB, SHOULD I GO FOR ABS OR PBT?
Hello, I am about to choose between some pbt keycaps or some switches for improving my keyboards sound, so wich should I decide??Pls help me out
Hey, I was wondering if you could recommend an RGB mechanical keyboard for me. I am looking for something tenkeyless or at least like 96% compact like the K4. I have a mac laptop and a PC so I was hoping to get something that worked with both. I'd prefer to spend under $100. Any advice/recommendations?
Switch and Click thanks sm for the help
I've read issues on using cherry profile keycaps on northfacing switches so I kinda hesitating on buying cherry profile but i definitely would want those as my keycaps :(
Are GMK pbt? I see you have the reversed spacebar like a boss. : ) Is the K6 programmable?
@@SwitchandClickOfficial Cool thanks! I've never heard of a non-programmable keyboard being upgraded via firmware update. That will be interesting to see if if that's what they do or if it's a hardware plug-in or something. I remember there being a chip you could buy to turn the HHKB into a programmable board.
Personally, I prefer ABS for its deeper sound profile and its lower tendency to be deformed.
got a brand new mechanical keyboard and ive been loving it so far but my abs keycaps are starting to go shiny on my wasd after only a few weeks
do all PBT keycaps shine light thru letters or only double shot ones?
How do you know if some keycaps wont fit on other keyboards, i was thinking of getting a keychron K2 65% and with it a set of keycaps (bc i kinda think the grey is boring) but i dont know how to check if they would fit my keyboard?
What’re the best keycaps for milky yellow switches?
What is "SA"? And what is that website you mention at the beginning?
It's a much taller keycap profile switchandclick.com/2020/04/23/ultimate-guide-to-picking-a-keycap-set-for-your-mechanical-keyboard/ There's some helpful pics in here if you're interested in the height of different profiles
@@SwitchandClickOfficial wow that was fast! Thanks!
What is the best gmk keycaps? 👍🏻
What about Drop dcx white on black and monokei wob series 1, which one is thockier?
I used pbt pudding keycaps with my roccat vulcan 120
i came here for the sound test but still nice vid 👍
I love the chalk key caps but am I the only one who notices that they printed "#" on top of letter 3 sideways? It is supposed to be narrow instead of wide... I get OCD about these things but would love to get them if they fix this letter 3 issue!
do you know where i can get some double shot pbt keycaps with the top row having the media and windows functions with rgb see through? i have the cougar ultimus and it has some nice functions on the top row. most keycaps i see don't have the media functions on them. thanks in advance
Not any custom keycaps, only stock ones on boards. Razer does I think
@@SwitchandClickOfficial Thanks for your reply. That really sucks when you have functions markings on keycaps and can't find replacements. I'll just have to remember where they are or maybe get them custom made.
what keycaps will you recommend on clicky switches? pbt or abs?
You just have to choose the one that suits your typing experience most. Since most of the signature sound of the keycap itself are overshadowed by the sound of the Clicky switch.
loves the videos
Thanks for covering the budget end of keycaps. Would like to see and honest perspective on the differences between budget and expensive keycaps. I.e. is the quality or feel much better or is it just to do with production volumes and colour ways.
what about KAT profile keycaps?
i just preordered some KAT explosion: Dye Sub PBT, $30 for alphas, $60 for mods
id love to get GMK mecha but i couldn't stomach paying $130 for a kit and then getting shine afterwards
I got my Varmilo MIYA Sakura mainly cause of the dye sub PBT keycaps haha
Does thicker keycaps make the sound deeper or more creamy? Or both? Cause rn my keyboard sound creamy more than thock
11:21 See how dying works? That got a bit dark there.
About gmk, they can be the top about colors or legends, but I sold out it bcs I really dont like ABS feeling
Is it okay if I bought the pbt keycaps and use it on an abs keyboard ? Because my keyboard originally comes with abs keycaps :( does it affect ?
YES totally fine
Why do you call XDA a strange profile?
should i buy abs or pbt
I think double shot keyboards always have gaps in the letterings when there are loops... It might not be a quality issue?
Yep
I dislike the keycaps that come with keyboards now in days. So thin and gross sounding. I've been using my Corsair double shot pbts for years now. They are also great. Alot of users don't understand the difference in profiles ether. For the high end I like Kats. But not gonna lie a nice gmk set is always great. Awesome stuff guys. I love the review 👍😍
But can I put Pbt keycaps on Abs Keyboard?
What keyboards did you use in this video? Please reply
I think the drop ctrl. But it must've varied

What plastic does the Redragon K552 keycaps uses?

Are these(9:38) ABS or PBT keycaps?

Thank you, Betty! I've just ordered(through Amazon) the Epomaker GK96S, after reviewing many of your videos, which are very comprehensive...it helped me a lot...
Mine is black case, PBT keycap, and although I wished Optical switch, there was only Mechanical one, and I chose the Brown. Maybe it was possible to order the Optical switch through the Epomaker website, but I've read many bad comments, about way too long waitings, that I decided for Amazon.
any nordic pbt keycaps?
do you have an email where we can ask u a million questions? Pretty close in pulling the trigger on my kb but would like to hear from you both in terms of the XP you have garnered over the years and see if im on the right track after my research phase. Thanks.
ok ill prepare my essay. ill get back to you in a bit here, apologies ahead of time.
@@SwitchandClickOfficial @Switch and Click ok.
Current kb: full hyperx alloy elite with cherry red/keycaps
I randomly came across (ty YT algorithm)I really enjoy the content (like how u both go more about sound/feel even as hard as that is to convey but still, its stuff i reallyh think matter in kb for me personally).
I use a wrist rest on my left hand only, jus more comfy to use wasd where I can put the weight of my wrist/arm on (i have a shit chair, will change but coming at end of the month so its not ideal arm/keeping shoulders square to get consistent aim)
5) hot swap vs solder: is there a difference in sound? all things in keeb the same hypothetically, that running a hot swap vs solder would change the sound?
6) keycap: does have a thicker keycap mute the sounder further?
Fell in love with this: The sound I'm going for is this from Taeha: th-cam.com/video/VG1RMUu9Ghg/w-d-xo.html
Even the clack of it, I love in that set up but I'm trying to eliminate as many variables as I can in order, to get a better picture of the sound (so been testing stuff on my setup, keys i use the most/least, backlight kb etc).
Optum tech: th-cam.com/video/1KOgfGWewsc/w-d-xo.html
So basically I was surprised (except for the clank at top i didnt like but that maybe because his keeb is on his desk, mine wont be, itll be on top a control style XL mousepad).
looking at his specs: basically its the frame and plate that are main differences, but the sound is close-ish.
Lastly, after all the research, this is the want list:
switches: tealios v2
keycaps: something i like
plate: alu (or fr4?)
keyboard: high profile 65-70% or TKL with lil to no angle
lube: krytox 205g0 (or whatever is similar)
stabs: lubed/clipped (something bullet proof/good-nice)
Thanks again!
@Switch and Click oh yea and please feel free in changing/adding to my list, after consuming your content, u got my trust so dont be shy in reccommending diff stuff if im way off.
@@SwitchandClickOfficial 1) because of my cycling hobby, i nkow a lot about alu/CF. brass i know some about and FR4 I can find and make guesstimates. not too worried here about the flex/key press
2) yep
3) again with my cycling hobby, learning bout metals/fibers, vibration/damping qualities, shape etc I feel like I got a decent grasp on based off all the videos ive watched over they yr or so. Yea, unfortunately I don't have keeb friends where I can jus go over and play with their kbs.
4) oh rip.
5) yea interesting vid, didn't control any variables but it was good enough that it confirmed things Im thinking about.
6) cool, thought so. thanks again for confirming. I'll prolly get something doubleshot cuz I need some light through my KB since im a night owl.
yea i dont do reddit.
whoa, that 2nd link.....whoa its liek ur in my head. how lucky, hope theres a GB cuz i'd jump right in it. Thank you so much.
yea i know there are enough factors hence why i figureed out what i like/variables I can control so new evidence have confirmed many things and what I'm thinking. What you answered also really confirmed some stuff. Gaskets aside, I can get pretty close to that sound knowing what are the key variables to focus on. Its all percolating in my head. thanks again!
@@SwitchandClickOfficial whew! figured it out, know what I can do to get to that sound (well as close as possible). so how does it work? if i wanted to get the vega i jus have to refresh page a million times a day and get lucky in the GB?
I think the company is called YMDK, and not YDMK like you usually say in your videos

it would be a lot less confusing if we didn't just use 3 letter abbreviations for both of them.

Hello, Betty!
I've read a review saying that keyboard with backlight makes it diifficult to read the keys.
So, if want to be able to read the letters and see other keys in the end of the day(early evening), without room light on, do you recommend the PBT or ABS key caps?
The ABS key caps let the light shine through, making easy to type, right?
I prefer PBT keycaps with black legends and white keycaps
