Emily, I understand the memories generated by the smell of auto paint. In a similar way, the smell of Hoppe's #9 gun oil always reminds me of my dad and my grandfather.
Girl you have one of those smiles that just lights up a room. Pure beauty. And a car girl icing on the cake. Aaron's a lucky lucky man. God bless. Hope this message finds you both well.
Ken Warner Sure appreciate that, Ken! Classy, respectful and well thought out comments find us super well! 🤓🙏🏼 Our world is turning and we are managing quite well through all the craziness! Thanks again for the kind words and especially watching and supporting!
Quick tip: If you have touch up's or runs that you want to take the high spots off before rubbing, take two box cutter blades. First one will get a single layer of masking tape around each end leaving a open section in the middle of the blade. Second one gets the same but this time use two layers of tape. You have just made two scraping tools! Use the two layer blade to gently start removing the top of your high spot by keeping it close to 90 degrees to the job and slowly scraping (not cutting) it over the raised section with the open section of the blade until it is running on the tape. Now using the blade with a single layer of tape to run that down the same way until it does the same. You will now have a high spot/clear run that is no thicker than your masking tape and will give you a better chance of finishing the job without rubbing through any of the surrounding area while still having a huge high in the middle. This has worked for me for years and has saved my bacon on everything from cars to 40 million dollar boats. If you are unsure grab a old car door or what ever and give it a go first just make sure that your paint is fully cured first so you don't peel it out or have chunks break out.....yeah, don't ask me how i know..! It is easy as once you get it.
That's excellent advise, I've never tried it with masking tape on the ends, but it makes perfect sense. Now, if I just had a vehicle that was worthy of spending time on taking care of rock chips.
Great presentation and good tips, I understand the memories from the sents ,smells and aromas it takes you right back in time, really like the shots through the trees. Take care stay safe, cheers.
Haha, yep the kind of Disney princess that would be hanging out of the side window of a hot rod with blazing tires screaming "F#@k yeah go baby go" Snow White Walls and the Seven Skids.......but how would the story go...?
A trick I learned is not use the brush but a paper match out of a match book. The side you break off just seems to hold the paint and applies it easier.
Now that you've touched up the surface and the paint has cured a few days/weeks, take some 1200 grit wet dry sand paper and some soap and water with a rubber sanding block. Wet the paper and lightly work the paper over the locations, 45 degrees, then 45 degrees the opposite direction. Keep the paper wet the entire time or it will scratch.
I wet sand the spot with 1500, then hit it with some course rubbing compound. Then do entire panel with mild rubbing compound, then polisher. Get rid of the ugly every time. Just a lot of work but worth it. We all have time during quarantine.
Just did a touchup on my baby after the neighbor decided to mow the grass and some rocks my way and hurt my baby girl. My baby same year as yours and was blessed to find Tungsten Gray from them! Looking great in your clean and rocked out garage!!!
I Have literally watched dozens of rock chip touch up videos.. This was by far the most fun!!! I'm not just saying that as a fan who has also been sniffing paint fumes.. POR-15 today. Lol. Great job as always!! Cant wait for part 2!
Had to smile at the comment about smelling paint. For me, it’s bondo, because of the memories associated with it and my Dad. And I was JUST doing bondo with Nathaniel a couple nights ago and telling him that story right before watching this. ☺️
As to the mystery paint dabs on the A-pillar, maybe they were unnoticed fingerprint / glove print smudges from the painter on a previous touchup. I bet you'll like the can-gun adapter. I have the rustoleum can gun that I use all the time, and it makes spraying paint much easier and more controlled, at least to amateur-painter me.
In the future you can actually forgo the clearcoat coat. Simply clean the rock chip area thoroughly with 91% alcohol. Apply a small amount of paint into the chip. Drag a plastic razor blade across the applied paint to level. Let the paint dry for 24 hours. Then wet sand, and polish. Thanks for the great vid. STAY SAFE! 🍻
Just got finished watching all your playlists and this one. Love how you go on different aspects on each car. I have a suggestion, take a razor blade hold at 45 deg. and pull backwards on the globs, it take off the globs to flush, a trick from a pro that taught me. Love you guys videos!!!
Great touch up job Emily. it just goes to show that sometimes it takes a woman's touch to make things better. I know that touching up paint chips is very time consuming, but well worth it in the end. Can't wait to see how the spoiler turns out. I like the Audi, they're good looking cars. So until next time take care and be safe.
Yes I know I'm a goof but I giggle when you say out ti. With my steady hands I would be repainting the whole thing tomorrow. Thanks for the intelligent entertainment Love the sound track Central California watching
I fill the chip with an angled cut flat match stick using made up paint spray can from Napa with my paint code, I spray a bit in a spray can lid and dab the match stick to fill the chip in layers. Then using 400-2000 grit paper, I wet sand. For my sand paper size, I use a paper punch to cut the piece so it can fit on the rubber eraser of a pencil using 2 way tape. If I need more paint to build it up, I repeat my procedure. Then finally buff out with a finishing compound and wax.
I bought the exact same paint brand a couple of months ago. I am currently doing the exact same thing with my car and rock chips. I bought the pen instead and it looks a little globby. I did not even put the clear coat on because it would probably lock in the globbyness of the paint. I don't know if my paint was a perfect match will see when I start the next steps. So far I wished I bought the little jar they were using instead of there pen touch up.
You keep amazing me. I have a Malibu boat, I have a PPL, I want a cruiser boat. I'v owned a 2001 Audi S8 and currently own a 2013 Audi S5 cabriolet Prestige. We might be kindred spirits. Haha. Thanks for the Vlog!
Surprised the nose was not the most affected area, that is what we see a lot of up here. When I think of Texas would think there to be more dirt or gravel roads, too many movies maybe. Great days and good health to you and all your family : ]
a little light wet sanding on the chipped spots to level them, and then a full paint correction and the car will look killer. I can see tons of swirls, thats why i suggest the paint correction. If you want any suggestions on easy to use tools and products to accomplish that let me know.
That spoiler looks perfect the way it is. But oh wait ,thats right i"m 85% color blind. Makes some parts of life easier. But my black Camaro needs this vid . Thanks so much guys for doing the leg work for us.
I am like you, partially color blind, i was working for a John Deer dealer as a mechanic and was asked to paint wheel rims on a second hand JD combine. The wheels turned out nice and clear no runs or waves. Well the next day the sales rep comes over and looks at the wheels and swears than goes, five minutes later the shop chief mechanic come over and starts laughing after seeing the wheels. I asked what was so funny and he tells me i painted the wheels industrial Yellow and not AG yellow, well that was the last time i was asked to do a paint job.
@@pierregodin1668 So Pierre ,do you get tired of people asking you what color their shirt is when they find out your color blind? @@dansoenen8331 LOL you are so right or when they ask what colour i see such and such an item. The thing is they have no clue what we see of the colour spectrum and cannot imagine what its like. Rust is corrosion and aluminum corrodes too. It's a very common misconception. Most of us still call it rust because either way you look at it it's still the same issue just a different base metal.
What is the shelf life of the touch up paint. Also if you don't have paint codes or a vin # to ref how would you go about getting matching colors.
