Lots of people complain about the location of the fire button but it's actually ideal provided you draw it and utilize it in the reverse (icepick) grip. I can deploy mine extremely fast from my pocket, much faster than any of my regular autos. It's a great design, provided you are willing to take these points into consideration. Mine also has great lockup, something my double action OTF (like the one pictured) does not have.
That’s pretty slick. I carried an assisted opening for years but switched to a traditional manual knife awhile back. Knife laws are usually very vague and can actually vary from municipalities.
Not sure about the Schrade, but every other otf has a “safety” built into it. If the blade makes contact while launching out it comes off track. You can fire it point blank at your leg and it won’t penetrate at all.

for otf its double action or nothing. pushing that slide from the bottom of the knife looks like a pita. and a double action should be even more 'legal' than an assisted cause there's no spring preload. you're doing all the work of moving the blade with your thumb.
The fact that any otf is illegal is dumb anyway. With the built in safety they have nowadays it won’t let the knife engage if it makes contact with anything.
In my experience, the advantage of a single action OTF is that the lockup tends to be significantly better than a double action. I'm speaking, of course, of lower end, affordable models. Premium double action OTF knives like Microtech and Benchmade models are likely much more "stiff" with less "wiggle," though I am only guessing as those $400 price tags are way out of my range. In addition, as I mentioned above, this particular Schrade model is fantastic when deployed with a reverse, icepick grip (i.e. the blade is pointed downwards when you fire it).

Gotta be careful and diligent to re-engage that safety prior to putting in pocket. If catch that switch you could end up having a bad day.

"Traditional out the front knife".. Germans made OTF knives first but with no spring. "Gravity knife" but still OTF.
otf knives aren't legal in the peoples republic of hawaii. neither are double edged knives or even balis.
I like these knifes but the thought of forgetting to put the safety on well to each to their own.
