I’m sold. For a knife I hope I never have to drive into an attacker’s carotid or femoral arteries it will do just fine. We all know automatics were never meant for hammering through wood or function like a Ka-Bar anyway.
Great to know they can take such abuse…makes me confident it will do 100% of what I expect it to do including NOT hurt my wallet. Mine has been completely reliable for quite a few years and best OTF bang for buck out there.
Haha yeah I guess so, but I wasn’t expecting it to break so easily 😂 I’d like to start doing some more intensive testing, but I can’t afford to buy a knife and then possibly have it break on me
I have had mine for years and carry it daily. It's perfect when you are working and have something in your other hand easy to open easy to close and put in my pocket. I have never had a failure with my original lightning knife however I would use my kabar or one of my other fixed blades if I needed to baton it. Good review of a great cheap knife.
To be fair, when batoning a hard piece of wood, it's probably better to invert the wood. Set the blade tip against a hard surface, and bash the wood. It might have made a difference here, as the wood is receiving the majority of the impact not the blade (which then transfers that kinetic energy to the knife housing).
I really did question what I was seeing when these were being introduced, of course the video I was seeing were always those shorts where they buy those stupid gas station knives. To seeing how well this one works and held up actually gave me a little confidence and I think about getting one now.
Maxace did a similar vid w their new budget otf. That thing takes a beating and still fires. Good edge retention I was impressed. I'm surprised at how well that thing cuts through cardboard.
one of my friends said the spring actuation wasn't that strong and it's not strong enough to propel it through a layer of cardboard. I actuated it into my palm. Shit hurt like a mofo 😂
awesome test. I have four of the lightning elite they are my EDC I knew they were only as tough as the cast aluminum handle which is tough enough for me. I keep mine absolutely razor sharp. I sold my microtechs, because they misfired constantly. but my lightnings never do, and if I lose one I certainly won't cry!!!
@@doodysdaggers yep the free state of Florida we also don't have to have permit now to concealed carry. because the criminals don't bother with permits why should we!!
@@CaptDavesSportfishing Yep, but just recently as of 7/1/23. Thank goodness for HB 453 because before in Florida it was only legal to carry “A type of knife occurring frequently in the community which has a blade that folds into the handle and that can be carried in one’s pocket.” which meant I always had to change knife types when traveling across the state line to Florida from Georgia. I am so happy that FL has become a “free” state now. 👍
Absolute legend of a knife, honestly. Lightnings survive things that they really shouldn't All the time Wife's been carrying one for about two years now and the thing is kind of a slumdog millionaire Hoping they make a single action someday
I really like the blade and handle comparison. Seems like usually big handle and a little blade pops out lol that’s seriously was pretty impressive cutting that rope bro! I can’t believe you broke it ugh. It was doing great for 30 bucks
Yo Doody have you seen the Tekto Gear OTF’s? Really good quality USA made OTF with 154cm, around $160. They also have a couple smaller D2 OTF’s around $99.

Oh yeaa absolutely! It was never meant to baton wood
Got me one a while back, it still has yet to fail to deploy, it just always works.

Yeah just don’t whack it with a big stick and you’ll be fine!
The Lightning is an over achiever ⚡️baton the Factor next! 😁
Haha okay yeah sure 😉
Expanded to the destruction testing I see. Great review.

@@doodysdaggers That's completely understandable! 😅
Use my otf for opening mail, that’s about it… now I know, do NOT baton my mail, thanks Dood!
You don’t baton your mail? 😂

Ah, a reverse baton. That’s smart
Can probably lube up the spring with some grease to mitigate the spring ring.
It's what I do and works great.
i loved your performance as a writer in the movie king kong
Thanks broh

Don’t baton pressure treated wood, got it
This satisfied me, especially the batoning! 🤤
😉🤘
They make a lightning elite now I just wonder if they cut as good as these
Any machine used wrong enough can be a smoke machine.
I think they use zinc alloy for the handle. I don't think even decent aluminum wouldn't break like that.
I bet you’re right

Oh really? I gotta watch that. I’m very tempted to pick that one up
Yeah me too, I gotta pay off my sezzle.😁 They have a tanto and a spearpoint. Can't wait to see the review.

Right on! Yeah if you don’t baton or get crazy with them, they are totally fine for EDC!
@@doodysdaggers just ordered 6 more!!!!!! 2- ""Elites"" plain edge drop points, 4- double edge with 1/2 serrations. They're my Fisherman's Friend.
You must be in a state where they’re legal 🤠

Nice testing on what might be a super budget banger otf
Looks like you have to apply lots of pressure to get it to cut. But like you said its only 30.00
👍🏼now it’s a gravity knife.

Yeah I mean it’s a pretty great cutter, as long as you don’t baton with it haha
I have had one for years and it is definitely the best bang for buck OTF out there…would rather have 8-10 Lightning than 1 Microtec.
Yo Doody have you seen the Tekto Gear OTF’s? Really good quality USA made OTF with 154cm, around $160. They also have a couple smaller D2 OTF’s around $99.
No I haven’t! I’ll take a look. I actually just ordered a wharnie Axial Shift 😉
@@doodysdaggers nice! They are really good too.
Thanks. I wouldn’t use it to hammer through wood lol $30 novelty light use OTF 👍🏻
Haha yeah true, nobody is batoning with their Lightning OTF
Heck of a way to make a gravity knife. Luckily it was only $30. But it still did a fairly decent job. Thanks for the rest! Stsy Sharp!
Haha yep! Thanks Kevin 🤠
I had 2 ultratechs i liked them but i want more so a double edge combat trooadon is on my list thanks kevin 😁
Hell yeah! I actually just ordered one of those Axial Shift OTFs, excited to check it out!
LOL. A $30 double action OTF cant batton a 2x4... SURPRISE ;)
I think they’re made by AKC
I think you’re right
Take it apart and see what failed!
It's 440c ss
Automatic knives are made to be a weapon and that's it... not for bushcraft.
Why would you do this to any knife ?
You broke your chinesium there.
Such an abuse of a knife.
To do this with any OTF knife is just plain stupid. There’s a reason people buy full tang knives.
Yep absolutely
