When you used the 2 DXe's in buddy mode, using the cord, did your "down elevator" work on the student box? When I tried to do that with mine I could only get the "down elevator" to work on the bench, before advancing the throttle past 25%, when the SAFE turns on. After going past 25% everything worked except "down elevator". I have been locking at blogs on RC Groups and the theory is that the "Trainer" button is also the panic mode switch, and as such the down elevator is prevented from working. If you could check this for me it would be a great help. I am also an RC flight instructor for my Club and I need to "buddy" with the new pilots. Thanks!
Do you have some recommendation as to how you should store planes? For example, how do you feel about hanging planes from the ceiling and how would you do that? Any other methods?
I have at least 20 airplanes hanging from the ceiling. I do have a 10' ceiling too. For a light foamy airplane like the mini Apprentice, I hang it from the prop by having a loop of string around it. I also hang on the same hook, the wing with a loop of string going around the pushrod wire. It works well as long as they do not get bumped a lot. If the hook is going into just sheet rock, the use a strong sheet rock anchor screw to hold the hook. Hanging things vertical allows for more places to hang them.
There is no memory in the DXe, because all of the setup are memorized in your iPhone. For electric aircraft, I thing the DXe is the best for the $60 price. If you want to spend a little more, the next best all around controller, is the DX6 (not the DX6i). The DX6 talks to you so you can here how much time remains (the DXe does not have a timer), when you throw a switch, it tells you which one. The DX6 can keep 250 aircraft and has may more features. The DX6 can do servo end point adjustment that is needed if you fly a nitro aircraft. The DXe cannot. DX6 is $200 but it is well worth it if you plan to get into the hobby with more than just one or two aircraft.
Have you noticed if your throttle is Notchy on the dxe? I've owned a dxe for nearly a year now but find the throttle just isn't smooth, maybe I got a bad dxe.
The DXe is new, and to my knowledge only began shipping this year. My throttle is smooth, I think because Horizon Hobby is shipping with some helicopters, along with the mini Apprentice.
Yes. I received the DXe "heli" version with my Blade 230S heli. When I bought my Phoenix sim, I got the DXe with the flap switches for a dedicated RC training system. But if you don't need an aux. channel, flaps or a wireless buddy-box, both versions are the same. I like the concept of the DXe; using your smart phones computer rather than an on-board computer in the Tx, but like you said, they need to make it more intuitive. Both of my throttle/collective sticks are smooth, but I think I read that you can adjust the sticks internally for different feels, perhaps that may help Paul?
Hello I just got my S-15e when I went to fly it don't wanted to come down the elevator was not working to bring the plane down but it was going up I need some help I need to know what's happening ?
You need to test the controls very well on the ground before taking off. First make sure the elevator is centered when the elevator stick on the radio is centered and the elevator trim is centered on the radio. IF NOT, then make mechanical adjustments to the clevis on the elevator pushrod. Then test how many inches or mm. the elevator moves up and down as you move the stick. This should be the same distance both up and down. Another thing to inspect is the position of the elevator servo arm and that it is centered when the stick is centered. I hope this helps.
i have seen other e flight rc planes with safe mode 1 2 and 3 set up on dx6i but i dont know to do it . i have also seen a timber with a dx9 have all 3 modes . thank you for your help
Because your DX6i has a two position flap switch it will only allow for the SAFE mode to be either on or off. From the Timber manual, the instructions for the DX6i setup is 1. Go to the SETUP LIST MENU 2. Set MODEL TYPE: ACRO 3. Go to ADJUST LIST MENU 4. Set FLAPS: Norm 100 Flap LAND60 Flap The mini Apprentice will have the same issue flying on the DX6i. The DX6i will not allow re-assigning the Channel 5 Flap function to a 3 position switch. Other DX radios do allow you select a 3 position switch to control the Channel 5 of the receiver. Also reading the Timber manual I noted that its SAFE technology is different than others. Timber only allows the ON or OFF of the SAFE and not the 3 modes like the Mini Apprentice.

How versatile do you think the DXe include in the RTF package will be flying other 4ch or 3ch planes? Does it have any memory for different setups?

I appreciate the detailed reply. The Mini looks like the way to go for me to start - again for the 3rd time :)

I would rather use my DX6 ,,any settings you care to share to set it up ?
If you follow the setting in the Mini Apprentice manual, they work perfectly for the DX6. I used the same settings them in my DX18.
Is the mini apprentice RTF radio compatible with the ios dxe app

It's not new,as I said I got mine last August ,15 with a CP heli but glad you've no throttle issues
hi
how do i PROGRAM my DX6I WITH ALL 3 SAFE MODES for my mini apprentice and timber .
thank you
The Timber does not have all 3 safe modes. I will have to check about the DX6i

Thinking of getting one what she like in the wind i'm from Scotland so we get a lot lol.
Winds up to 10 mph is no problem, over 10 mph is ok if you are a good pilot.
