    I have a Taranis X9D Plus (original) with a DM9 DSM2 module. I've managed to map Safe Select to a switch on my Turbo Timber when I bought that a couple of years ago, but on my new Extra 300 I can't get it to work. It will bind correctly (control surfaces wags twice) but when I try to map it to a switch it just toggles Safe Select on, and if I try to map it to the same switch again it toggles it off. It won't let me toggle it on and off once I've mapped it to the switch. The switch is on channel 5 and the DM9 module is running at CH1-8, 22.5 ms, 400u, -

    When assigning switch A on a Spektrum DX6 Transmitter, I see under Digital Switch Setup, 0= +100% and 1= -100%, maybe it's backward but still the same values. The documentation for the AS3X receiver manual states that the switch should be setup to positive (+)100% in both position 0 and 1. Which is correct?

    This is nuts. Why isn’t any of this described in my new 250CFX with SAFE technology (as opposed to SAFE Select) manual? The manual suggests that the SAFE functionality is already enabled with a designated panic button, which is a function of the transmitter model number and its associated programming page in the 250CFX manual. For example the programming page in the 250CFX manual for my DX7s indicates that the gear switch is assigned to the SAFE level and the bind button to the panic mode. But there are Three levels in the SAFE system. Why don’t the instructions call for the use of the 3 position flap switch? How does one toggle through the three levels of SAFE using the two position gear switch? Something is wrong here. Furthermore, the servos only go through an initial configuration move ONCE regardless of whether I remove the binding plug quickly or just leave it in. When I remove the binding plug quickly after initial receiver power on and attempt to select a SAFE on/off switch according to this videos instructions, nothing happens. Additionally as I stated above, the is no way to turn off SAFE. Please respond. Thank you.
    The servos do attempt to correct for inverted or extreme attitude of the helicopter and the bind button does cause the servos to move wildly. But as far as which level of SAFE the model is in I have no idea. The servos move at the same rates regardless of the gear switch position.

    hi everyone NEED HELP !! I have a Turbo timber 1.5 Blue the first edition, my battery is Tattu 2700 mAh 3 cell 11.1V, Radio is specktrum NX6. kinda new to this binding stuff. The problem is that the plane flies like a gentle lady at full throttle, barely able to keep it in the air which is quite frustrating hence the term Turbo does not apply at all here. Reading the manual seems to point to a binding problem. My next ques. Are there two ways to bind my plan? I know about safe mode binding...kinda. will binding in safe mode (if there is such a thing) stop the motor from having full throttle? If so, it shouldn't. this should be a user decision hence throttling down! not something controlled by the radio. Also If the latter is true then how do i bind the plane so that i get full throttle. Thanks for any help or advice given. 👍😊

    Why can't I assign a switch using spektrum dx8-2 trans.for safe on/off. Safe is indicated when I power up my Carbon Z-t28. and I followed your instructions. None of the switches I try to assign work. HElp

    • @horizonhobby
      @horizonhobby  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cester, perhaps all of your channels have been mistakenly taken up already? Go to your monitor and see what switches are assigned to various functions (AUX 1, AUX 2, etc.). Sometimes, for whatever reason, you will end up with a channel being taken up by a switch that doesn't actually do anything. For example, see what switch AUX 2 is assigned to (if any). Does that switch actually control anything on the plane? If that is truly an "unused" channel, you can go to channel assign and change that switch to whatever you want SAFE Select to be. Then, perform the SAFE Select Switch Assignment procedure in the video.

    Any advice?
    Thanks!

    • @horizonhobby
      @horizonhobby  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that you are using a 6 channel radio where you really need a 7 channel radio. To get SAFE Select to work in the A10 with a 6-channel radio, you will have to make a choice: 1. Share SAFE Select with flaps/retracts. 2. Fly with safe on 100% of the time. 3. Disable either flaps/retracts and use SAFE Select. 4. Fly in AS3X only 100% of the time.

    I was so frustrated for a long time because I couldn't get the reassign to work. Then I finally found a post on rc groups that solved my issue:
    Next, make sure your transmitter is on HIGH RATES. The special stick movement you need to put the receiver in the switch learning mode won't work on low rates. You can go back to low rates after you're done with this process.

    I just bought a receiver out of a turbo Timber from a distributor in St Paul Minnesota off of eBay. I asked him if this receiver could be used in a durafly tundra and he told me yes. When I hook the receiver up everything was backwards to my dismay. I did some investigating and looked for some other videos on TH-cam of other pilots putting these AS3x safe receivers in other planes and saw in the comments that Horizon Hobby said that they would not work in other aircraft. It infuriates me that an unscrupulous dealer is pulling these receivers out of these planes and then selling them on eBay telling people that they will work in other aircraft
    I am disabled! Whatever I buy, it takes time for me to save up to get these things. Very disappointed that I was misled.

    This video is a very good primer, but it is NOT for the newer Forward Programmable (FP) Rxs. It's for the AR636 and possibly the AR6335, NOT the AR637T and other SRXL2 SAFE Rxs. I know this video came out before the SRXL2 Rxs came out.
    That "A" switch is the one most pilots I know use for retracts. So I use Switch G for my Receiver flight modes (FM) assignments. Spektrum didn't distinguish between Rx and Tx FMs. They are different and very confusing if you don't distinguish which one you're talking about. Some AR636s have a remote port available, while others do not.

The fact is, you cannot bind an AR636(A) Rx to anything other than a fresh, default model in the Tx. Tried it... then read the manual. ;-)

      Do I need to set the program first in my dx6e , before I bind? This is new to me and all flying club's are to far away for help

    • @GrotrianSeiler

      Scotty Norris I hope you figured this out by now. Yes, you need to do the setup in the transmitter before you do the bind step. Then follow the steps in the video with the bind procedure depending if you want SAFE on or not. Which plane did you get?

      @@GrotrianSeiler I bought a turbo timber, and timberX, I set the program, and binded them, they both fly great, the X is different being my first 3d, but I'm learning how to fly it! I did break a prop landing, came in a little fast and nosed into the ground

    Yep. Learned the hard way after I had maidened my Timber X 1.2m even after checking the control surfaces and the TX switch, SAFE didn't take. I still had a successful maiden and flight, it's just that my landing wasn't.

    Hello, I have a question, the button with which the safe is activated or deactivated must be assigned in the transmitter, and another question, this procedure also applies to gas or glow models

    • @horizonhobby
      @horizonhobby  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically the "SAFE button" is programmed in the receiver. The receiver simply looks for what function corresponds to that on your transmitter. So, if SAFE is setup to be AUX 2, the receiver will always look for AUX 2 on any/all radios bound to it.

    Will this work with an ar 400 receiver and a generation 1 spektrum dx8 radio? Thank you.

    I tried to set this up with a Eflite Commander 1.4m. Got the double tap with binfding, Setup for switch A on channel 7. Setup forward programming. With safe on or off the plane tries to right itself when inverted. Any ideas? I already did a software update to the receiver.

      Did you have to toogle the 3 position flightmode switch for safe when bindning to dx6?

  • @backyardscaler
    @backyardscaler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would the forward programming work to set up the panic button top left? I did this and it set up safe by the toggle switch.. DXs transmitter updated.

    Good info, but he says... "Then your gonna toggle the switch you wanna use 3 times" Then he toggles it 5 TIMES! What the Fock is that? This gets confusing enough without conflicting instructions like that. I had SAFE switch assigned to switch A like he does on my Cirrus & Maule, SAFE & switch worked fine, then my last flights there was no SAFE at all. I even did a re-bind on my Cirrus just like he said, but I didn't pull the bind plug out as fast as he did after I connected my battery, re-binded the Tx like he did, then sticks down & center, flipped my A switch 5 times and... nothing, no SAFE. I did a 2nd. re-bind for SAFE on, then found SAFE wasn't even working before trying to assign my A switch. And in my Cirrus & Maule manuals, it says NOTHING about needing dual rates set on HIGH to assign a SAFE switch, how the fock could they miss that in the manuals? They want more calls coming into their tech support dept. I'll have to try again, connecting EC3, then try pulling the bind plug out as fast as he did. If this is what it takes, IT SHOULD BE PLAINLY SPELLED OUT IN THE DAM MANUALS !! Not have to search for 'tricks' like this, come on Horizon, GET IT STRAIGHT IN THE DAM MANUALS !!

    I'm using an older DSM2 radio, I've followed the SAFE binding and switch assignment procedure (gear channel set to +/-100 end points), but there is no change when flipping the switch. I noted at the start of the video you only mentioned DSMX radios, is that why I can't use SAFE?

    What channel is used ? Don't you have to assign your selected switch to a channel BEFORE you do the BIND ? for example assign switch A to channel AUX 2 or AUX 2 or AUX 3 etc ?

    Okay so I have the avios 130 and I bought a spectrum safe receiver to go in there and I am on the DX8e transmitter the receiver I'm using is the ar636 w/safe. I followed the band and procedure at to bind it to where safe mode is enabled however safe mode will not turn on for nothing in the world I went to my forward programming or the flight mode settings I got to assigned to a switch nothing is working I do know how to work with safe because I have the e-flat Cherokee binding fly I have the e-flite Sirius and those two work perfectly however safe will not enable. Am I missing something? Plz help

    I have a small problem, maybe someone can help? *Problem started with a first time bind on a not totaly flat surface, how to fix that?* I have bound my E-Flite F-15 with safe on but if i hold the plane in lvl, the elevator is in a light dive position and the alerons give me a light right bank. If i turn safe of, my controllsurfaces are perfect flat with the wings. I tryed to fix that by rebinding without save and after that with safe again but still have the same problem. How can i change the neutral position for safe?

    This is the video I've been looking for! Very informative about activating SAFE. Why this info isn't in the aircraft manuals I don't know. I have a Carbon Cub S+ and the manual doesn't make it clear out this process and not even a mention of the type of transmitter required if you add the flaps option. This is meant as a beginners plane and up so details would be useful.

    • @horizonhobby
      @horizonhobby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Carbon Cub S+ is actually different as it does NOT use SAFE Select. It uses progressive flight modes in conjunction with the GPS system. SAFE gets assigned to whatever switch is set as GEAR in your transmitter. Also, for information on adding flaps: th-cam.com/video/5OUfkwkQMEo/w-d-xo.html

    Wow! I have the UMX turbo Timber and love it . But for a year now I've had the clipped wing cub and I knew something wasn't right . I just had no confidence that the reciever was working in safe. Now I know why. With in 10 mins of watching your video I had it working correctly ! Man I wish I had seen this earlier.
