Working on one that is identical, my water got in through the shifter shaft. There is an O-ring that goes just inside the sleeve from the outside of the gearbox. I noticed that you didn't take yours off and I wondered if you knew that there was an O-ring inside there that needed to be replaced. I replaced the seal on my gearbox and still got water in and rested Out The Chain. So now I've replace the chain but I've also replace the O-ring inside the shifter shaft
I have two of these gear boxes and the same part failed on both. There were no spring and ball that I found. Could you send a picture or send a picture of where it is. 😊
U still running it? I just bought one with a new predator 6hp engine on it. I Really want to check my gear box out. Maybe clean it up inside and pack new grease in it
+frank vumbaca Thanks for watching... I don't exactly remember we just went down to Wal-mart and picked up some tubes. I do remember it said heavy duty for use in farm equipment so we got that one.
Nice videos. Is this the model tiller that tills in forward and reverse; Model # 917299080 ? Mine was stuck in gear as well, but it was the input shaft gears rusted/froze on the input shaft. I'm putting it back together now, but I seem to be missing a spacer, (after it sitting a year) maybe not, A spacer is not shown on the diagram as well. However, seems like there should be a spacer on either side of gear #56 to keep it from sliding back and forth as it can move 2 inches. You have photo's of it all together sans grease?
Jeffery Hansen this one only tills in forward with tines. Has 4 positions. F w/Tines, F, N and R. If you don't see one on the diagram then there probably is not one once the case is put back together it holds most of the gears in place. Also, just noticed this is not the final I forgot to upload the last video in that one I have a lot of video of it together before we set the other half on.. I will try to get that uploaded this weekend.

Does the ball go against the pin? Or the spring? The sketch shows the spring but that doesn't make sense to me...
