Thanks a million for doing this video. Did just what you did and hit shaft with hammer slightly. Got it to working. Took out grease insert and filled with gear oil. Works good. Thanks again.

There was no way I would take it apart to fix it. After watching your video I was very intrigued but not convinced that it would work. I was very cautious to apply a pnehammer to one side, and I also removed plated on the opposite side to apply hammering to the same pin. After a few minutes there was some movement that finally released the gear shifter. This video puts most other videos requiring disassembly in shame. Thanks for great advice!

Great video. Do you have any videos replacing the carburetor or other work on the tiller?

I had got my Dad's Tiller it was Stuck in Reverse. Did Everything you did. But instead of Air Hammer. I used a Blue TIP Wrench TORCH Hit the Shaft and the Rod on the Side. Back in Business put some Gear Oil in there as well.👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

what a great video! i definitely didn’t want to take apart virtually the entire tiller to fix this. my tiller was also stuck in N . didn’t have stuff you had so i shot wd40 into the grease fitting opening aimed as best i could onto the 16 shaft. couldn’t get the shift lever off either so i used the only hammer i had on the 16 shaft and the local L-shaped shift lever. penetrant and (hammer) persuasion to the rescue once again. thinking about installing another grease fitting directly above the 16 shaft on the right side so i can spray lubricant onto the shaft for storage. i had no signs of water accumulation in the gear case. (no leaks). maybe another grease fitting or plug in the bottom of the case to confirm? i’m thinking/hoping just humidity and the 16 shaft being up high in the system led to surface corrosion during storage. how did the gear oil work out? did it leak out the gaskets or seals? why not just stuff the box full with EP grease? is there any harm in that?

I'm glad it helped. I like your idea of another fitting right above the shift shaft. I don't use it a lot, but no leaks at present. It's sitting on a concrete floor, so I would notice.

@@TSRGarage Welp the shifter works fine now after all the grease was added. Drove it out to the garden under its own power, then just as I shifted into tilling mode the drive wheels stopped, tines spinning as they should. So I guess the drive chain gave up. No clue how long this was sitting up neglected. Now tearing into the gear box is the only option, if I want self-propelled feature.
