I dug S5 for numerous reasons but the main one was because all of the lead characters were so much more likable than before. Robby in particular finally came around.
They dropped alot of the petty drama and focused solely on taking down Terry, that's why.
I agree completely. Finally some actual stable character growth.
I personally loved Season 5 and didn't have any of the issues you did with it. Cobra Kai has been a consistently great show for me since the beginning.

this show is turning out to be some odd power rangers show. this season had alot of bad acting and most of the kids (besides a few) really can't act.

Season 2 was my favorite, because of William Zabka's performance. He had me both laughing hysterical and crying my eyes out. The thing that I liked about Season 5 is that they focused on the adults. Original fans of the original Karate Kid movies were so excited that the original cast were attacked to this season because they have been waiting for this since the series started.
I also loved S2, not sure I fully understand the low rankings from some it. I thought the performances from Zabka and Macchio were phenomenal, it had some of the funniest moments, great fan service/references to the original movies, and told a simple and compelling story. People seem to dislike it because of the teens, but.... really I don't know how you can like the show period if you don't like the teens because they are a big piece of every episode of the show lol

@ostm9438 I’ll never understand why people defend or enjoy season 3 when the noticeable truth is that s3 was bad. The season was forgettable, the characters were bad, the whole Miguel recovery subplot was bad, and it was just generally bad.
Besides, every other season is just that good that s3 really just can’t compete with them.
I just binged the entire show this week and I have to say to me this is probably my favorite show ever made. Tbh it has no business being as good as it is but it just works for all the right reasons so much so that it actually has outshined the actual movies for me. I mean taking preexisting material some loved some hated and mashing it together should be a recipe for disaster but it’s done in such a way that the dots are connected and everything has a purpose. Can’t wait for season 6.
They should have skipped that Miguel/Mexico story and spent that time giving Hawk, Tory, Dimitry, others more time.
I agree. The Mexico thing added nothing. They could have added more to the Kenny/Anthony feud and add more for the younger cast.
Anyone else feel like in season 5 we were just waiting for terry silver to spring on us that he was sick maybe something like stage 4 cancer? It felt kind of odd to me all the mentions of fulfilling his life, life is short, and him bumping into Johnny at the hospital without saying why. They did something similar in season 4 with a lot more mentions of Miguel’s dad and childhood and in the end it was obvious where he was going. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like they might reveal that next season.
Not at first but I have read that elsewhere and it makes total sense. The only thing I noticed was when he mentioned no children/no legacy. I just thought it was a touching way to show more depth to his character, nothing more. But the other elements you mentioned definitely makes me think there's more. His story is definitely not over, because even in season 4 I felt that there was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that they weren't showing us, like his medication and PTSD, and also him slowly unraveling. Honestly at the time, it felt like bad writing that they weren't fully explaining what was going on with him, but at this point I believe there is a reason for it all.

3. Season 5-though it’s bonkers and less about the mentorship aspect, I found it incredibly entertaining with a fantastic finale and end goal. The cliffhanger though is extremely silly and I hope that’s wrapped up quickly.

As I said for Sean Chandler’s video, I’d like to these series turn towards reforming Cobra Kai (the dojo) into something better and then have a finale in which they go to an international tournament that was set very well in season 5. :)

The only good thing season 5 did was make Samantha an actual likeable character. I could not stand her I'm the previous seasons. She just complained about first world problems all the time where as in this newest season, her drama is actually valid.

I just appreciate how you, me, and pretty much everyone else ranks the seasons differently. Goes to show you that the show has a lot to offer and something for everyone.
As for me, I find it really difficult to rank the seasons. I just know I have 3 in last place because of everything you mentioned, even though there were some good points.
I guess my ranking would be:
1) tie: S1/S2
3) tie: S4/S5
5) S3
I realize ties are cop-outs, so if pressed, I'd go 21543, but... it's very tough for me. I just know 3 was the only weak link.
It's funny, when I watched season 4 in January, it was immediately my favorite season. Now I have it ranked 4th. It's really hard to rank these..
That happens when a show is consistently good. There aren't any obvious best or worst seasons.
Season 5 is great especially the last episode it’s intense mike Barnes is great chozen is funny and when Miguel went to find his father was emotional something I can relate
My ranking
5. Season 2 (fights were cartoonish, felt too much like karate soap, not enough from adults like kreese)
4. Season 4 (fan service fights felt unearned, less johnny fights, didnt like changed character story arcs like miguel to go nowhere in s5, terry silver and johnny are only ones that carried s4 for me)
3. Season 5 (same problems with s4 but but better, brutal fights felt earned, basically fan service thrown at you through narrative and cameos)
2. Season 3 (felt more connected to first 3 films, good story, appreciate flashbacks added something new to mythology of miyagi verse)
1. Season1 (good sequel to karate kid movies, love flip the script on johnny and miguel relationship, great cliffhanger for whole show in finale)
well I mean cobra kai is supposed to be a karate soap opera
The only thing that was strange was how mike Barnes disappeared until the finale, but other than that, yeah it’s annoying seeing these feuds with the kids keep extending on and on but they had been doing that the entire show, so it didn’t seem to be much of a problem
I don't really feel like they did much in regards to the kids feuds aside from the water park scene and even that didn't turn into a brawl

I think for me that's one of the disappointing parts of season 5 is that outside of the sekai taikai tryouts and the Miguel vs. Robby rematch, there wasn't a lot of the students fighting one another and that's one the drawbacks of the season. Not saying it should rehash the students fighting like they did in the previous seasons just saying there should have been enough students fighting while at the same time trying to challenge the students to become stronger fighters.

Oh hell yeah! I was lucky enough to be an extra in those tournament scenes in season 4. It was epic. Seasons 1 and 2 are definitely my favorite, but I just love this show so, so much.
To each their own, season 5 is probably mid pack for me. Partially because it focuses more on the adults and the expansion of Cobra Kai rather than dedicating episode after episode to petty teenager drama.
I think S1 is still my favorite. It's like how I feel with Stranger Things. I liked it when it felt smaller and more focused. I realize when we rank stuff, we see flaws but it makes us dislike some of the bottom ones when we really enjoyed them.
If I never did these rankings, I would just tell you I enjoyed ALL the seasons from Cobra Kai. S5 is actually tough for me to rank. The first half might be the worst we've ever seen from CK but the second half might be the best we've seen.
Maybe once the series is over, we'll look back at S5 more fondly. I'll go...

I love S3 because we saw Kumiko, Chozen, and Ali all return. But it did have the weakest season finale. The Kreese flashbacks can be hit or miss for fans but I personally enjoyed them. Not every scene but it was fine. S3 finale did finally bring Hawk back on the good side.
I think since S4 and S5 came out only 8 months apart, they're almost like Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 or Infinity War/Endgame. There were some parts of S4 I didn't care for. I thought Silver wanted to stay good but Kreese brought him back to the dark side and I felt Silver turned too quickly by framing Kreese.
I'm still questioning between S4 vs. S5? Maybe it's just me, but I really don't like the Anthony bullying Kenny subplot. I don't care for either characters. I didn't like Kenny's brother bullying Robby. Kenny's story is just recycling Daniel, Miguel, Hawk, Sam, Aisha, and so on..
S5's first half brings it down but was S4 really that good? Chozen carried that first half. And I did love seeing the return of Mike Barnes and Jessica Andrews. I'm aware KK3 is hated but it holds dear to my heart as it's the one KK I saw in the theater back in 1989. C'mon, we got back Teen Witch! Top that!
Okay, I'll give S5 the edge over S4. I loved seeing Daniel and Johnny finally being truly friends this season and when they went clubbing with Chozen. I thought Chozen really was the highlight. If we get an S6, they better bring him back. Chozen has gone from my 5th fav character up to 2nd only below Johnny.

I obviously respect ur opinion. But in my opinion i do not agree with the statement that we got the same character growths and developments. I found season 5 to be the opposite of that actually. It does a lot of things we didn't do before. hell Robby and Miguel are finally done with beef. Sam and Tory are stopping with bitching. First time Johnny and Daniel don't get in a fight with each other whole season. I think it's overall doing more new things than any other season.
For me season 5 is for sure the best imo

I'm really surprised you didn't mention the whole Kreese backstory and how ridiculous it got with Mortal Kombat Vietnam fighting to the death over a pit of snakes and how cheap it looked and just how ridiculous that storyline was even for someone like Kreese.
The thing about Season 3 for me is you really have no one to root for in that season at all. Everyone is either selfish, full on evil or can't see past their ways. Ashley and Elizabeth Shues interactions and the being the voice of reason for Daniel and Johnny was the real highlight and of course the trip to Japan.
Season 2 I only put below Season 5 because Season 5 is just too much damn fun with Terry Silver and Chozen and a lot of those closing stories. I hate that Hawk got little to no screentime and I hate what they did with Kreese who for me has run its course. What more can you do with that character that hasn't been done. I wanted that stabbing scene to be real so bad like yes give Kreese the ending he deserves but of course he had to fake his own death and I'm like ughh here we go again. I also think it was too soon for Terry to go down. I don't think that will be the last of him but at what capacity will we see him again. He is the best villain of this entire franchise and they need to put him in every season from here on out and even if he's not in every episode or the big bad of Season 6, still have him there as a regular even in a supporting role. Do not waste that character. There's so much more that can be done with Silver over Kreese. I don't get this fascination with Kreese. It's like they can't let that character go and he's always been one dimensional to me. The only time I ever truly saw him as more was Season 4 but this last season they ruined any hope of me ever liking Kreese in any capacity. He does nothing for me at all. He's probably my least favorite character and the one I care about the least. I just want him to die already.
I just finished season 5 and I thought it was terrible. felt real cheap, odd and had alot of bad acting. I had a feeling this was gonna happen because of they pretty much tied up all the old story lines and now it really feels like a power rangers type show.
the big rise of silvers cobra kai just too fall like it did... felt rushed and overall the show lost its heart

I feel like seasons 3 and 5 are interchangeable for me. I like both and at the same time have issues with them. On the 1 hand season 5 is maybe a bit messier, however the plot armor in season 3 is insane. Season 2 is decent but has a number of issues specifically regarding Kreese’s plan and Tory’s out of nowhere insanity.
Very hard to rank but my least favorite was season 2 only because I think it had more of the cheesy teen scenes of all the seasons. And 5 was my favorite because it had less of the cheesy teen scenes.
I'm not exactly sure where to rank all five seasons because a lot of people might disagree with me and be the opposite of how I think of all five seasons. However, I do like all five seasons and I don't think there's a bad one! So this is my ranking of all five seasons from worst to best:

I've felt this show has gone downhill after season 3. anyone else notice all these kids besides a few really can't fight.
it shows when they are in their dojo and are warming up just throwing a simple 1,2 alot of them look like they never had protein in their lives. then you look back at the original karate kid and alot of those kids are believable. atleast they sound off when they strike
for me i think season 4 is the worst lol. still some good stuff, and the tournament is amazing. but getting there feels like a chore.
