It was a lot longer than 38 yrs ago that I fell in love with Northern Soul. I was doing my A levels and found kindred souls that loved to listen to records for long periods of time. I met several DJ’s in Northampton and Milton Keynes and then fell in love with Northern Soul. It was to be my constant for a while. I was just turned 17 in 1972 and I lived to dance! Obviously being in my late 60’s now my music choices have wavered - my overwhelming love is for reggae - but my love for northern soul will never die! Osteoarthritis tries to interrupt the legs but after a few bevvies ( it would have been a few other things in 1972!) my legs fail me not and the moves will never die! Dancing on the stage at the Torch has so many memories for me! I was one of the lucky people that loved Bletsoe, Kelmarsh, the Torch, Blackpool Mecca, the Cattacombs and the lovely people who were riding on the same wave 😊 love you and miss you all. I will never forget being woken up at 5.30am by Glen and his friend after they had played in Wolverhampton. One of my best friends dj’ed at Bletsoe and Kelmarsh - Delbert Brown - met him at Shades in Northampton, along with Glen Bellamy and others. It was a magic time in my life I have so many memories. The ONLY thing I find strange about Northern Soul are the dislikes that are on Youthbe videos. How can anyone NOT like anything that is Northern Soul related.. KTF
Because it’s now been taken over by people that just want to be a face on it , who have no history nothing as was said in the clip it was a right of passage many years ago , it’s now turned it to the opposite to what the original people that formed this scene all those years ago wanted , as was said also it was kind of secret society that we wanted to be kept underground I remember friends saying don’t go telling divs as they will start turning up , and that’s exactly what happened it’s not all bad I suppose but theirs a multitude of divs on it lol

Hi what detroyed The American Music Is Washington Created Stupid Law Called Payola American DJs accept money Gifts from record companies to play their record We lost here in the Us a legend named Alan Freed A man helped a lot of people who want to to sing want to Artists ABC American Tv cancelled His show because He had a Young black man and a young white lady danced Together and The Us Supreme Court Convicted Freed of Payola The result he lost His job nobody wanted to hire him He drank himself to death and Many other Djs were convicted too So the result Many Demonstration 45 like 2or three thousand never played or hit the airwaves and none of them became Us Billboard Chart action Because of payola law here in the Us a lot American Disc Jockeys being watched by the Us American Broadcasting System . Was sat next to him in the bar at the end of the night,when the premiere of the film ended at King George's Hall in Blackburn,he did a live spot there ...and believe he stayed in Bolton for a while afterwards as he loved Lancashire ...co-incidentally PJ Proby also lived there for a while
As a Northern Soul DJ back in the day I never saw any drugs. Those claiming such I'd take with a pinch of salt. Not saying they did not exist, but it wasn't the norm.
