To them who put thumbs down!! You ain't got a clue to what good music was and still is! I'm 60 yes old and wont listen to anything else. My body aches and pains everywhere, but put on the vinyl s and theve gone well for a bit anyway. Always KTF.
Another great Northern music venue.. I’m now 67 and was all over from soul to RnB to punk to reggae to rock.. Them days never to be repeated I so blessed to have had some of the best times of my life.. Raised in Salford partied all over in Manchester and London. Depressed never even knew what the word meant.. Fri, Sat and Sunday night staggered into work Monday Whooppeee fab times 🎉💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 No need for the gym or keep fit we were dancing 3-4 times a week 🥰
Isn't it amazing when your young and you take everything for granted. I'm 18 and it's July 1981. My girlfriend took me to Wigan Casino all nighter. I didn't appreciate back then. Now I can't get enough of it. Keep the faith..................✊
As a 15 year old lad, my older mates got me into an all nighter. I knew nothing about music or dance, so you can imagine the overload on the senses that night. Have been hooked since. Keep the Faith 💪✊
You got a scene going over there now haven't you? Might not be massive but the vibes there. I often see soul nites advertised in different parts of the States. Alot of times connected to the Scoot scene.
I live in near Philadelphia Pennsylvania. I've not heard of any thing in our area, the closest where there are soul nights is in NYC. That's a bit of a haul for me.
Hi my husbands from Wigan he said they were great the casino has gone and is a car park music lives on can't beat it and the motown movement I only play this sort music
I used to go to Wigan Casino, from 1976 through to 1980, fantastic nights, but the last time I was there was in early 1982, I was a fireman, fighting the fire when it burned down, a very sad day!!
o aye. what a memory i use to come over from isle . of .man , a get train at lime street on my own some times. a go to manchester, the nights was fabulous ,wish i could relive them. frankie valli, the night, one of my favourites.
The Best time in my life from 1976 i was in trouble when I got home but it didn't stop me going we had a Ford Cortina and we had 6 people in it if only it was the same today and we were not as old A BIG HELLO TO YOU ALL OF YOU THAT WAS AT WIGAN CASINO IN THE 1970'S
I used to be a mobile DJ playing lots of this. What a great time we all had. Oh how we all wish those days were still here. Lets get in a time machine and all go back there. And the funny thing is, I had a girlfriend 20 years back and she came from Wigan.
What I love about it is that no one is excluded. It's an all-in. Only expense you really have is the 'bag' pants! Sweet. Kids back then enjoyed things more, as nobody had much. Kids now w the endless electronics, never satisfied, always bored.
Back to a time when world wars and pandemics were not a consideration. Strikes, unemployment, and run down areas, but a good community feel, and compared to today, not a care in the world. Great music and clubs. Even TV was good. I feel sorry for today's kids.
This brings back some memories, I only made it twice, being in the RAF and based overseas made it a bit difficult. But when I came home, beeline, Wigan. Met some great people from all over, and the music was great. Walking out with the Three before Eight still in your ears. You all know what that was like. Thanks for posting. Still keeping the faith, but a bit quieter now.

Great video clips, I came from a mod background in Dublin and eventually discovered northern soul and it's energy at the time lreland was still in the strangle hold of the Catholic church and some how it influenced a nation with fear and a heavy hand, I have been collecting vinyl since I was 13yrs old and as time moved on I discovered dance music and became a bastion for it, really didn't think it could work at this point in time and my life I was going to the UPNORTH SOUL WEEKENDERS, and seen how diverse it's music was with different rooms, never thought it could work in the south of lreland, because I felt we never had the influence of different cultures in our community at the time, then I went to Belfast to the sugar club with a friend of mine and I was blown away so started organizing gig's in Dublin myself, started organizing club night's in a club called,SIDES, with DJ's from Belfast etc but the guy that owned the club ripped me off one night, and I swore to him that I would another venue for the next one, I eventually found the, OLYMPIC BALLROOM,a venue that was probably built around the same time as the casino and the similarities were profund,it was dance music but it has the same energy as a northern soul night in the casino , like the casino it's been turned into something else now , I just wish I had been able to experience the casino personally great video
john faulkner try doing some yoga mate. it's great for getting you nice and limber. then at your age I recommend Viagra to keep you stiff in another place.
Yeh, we would catch the train up to Wigan, pretending we were at netball practice and sleeping over at friends lol! Lost too many mates but still have the wonderful memories eh! Keep the Faith!!!
Takes me back to my teens…fell in love with my husband when him saw him dancing to 54-46 was my number, he was nicknamed rubber legs & could bounce back to both beats…hair stands up on my arms still thinking of it!
I agree gal. No film will ever touch the reality. Tho we all had our own realities. Different levels of experiences. I had some that would make your jaw drop lol
Takes me back. Wonderful, awesome. Most of these people will now be in their late 60’s. Hope they are all looking at this fantastic footage. Keep it going.❤
My mate and old neighbor Keith Dunhill on at 2.22 and onwards for a short while, wearing his trademark necktie, i love reminding him everytime i see this on you tube.
I live in Wigan. I have heard of Northern Soul but never knew what it was about. I don’t know why this popped up on my TH-cam home page, but I am so glad it did. I love this.
brilliant and excellent memories ❤I love the place in our lives where we all love ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ we are lucky enough to have gone through the same place ❤️ ♥️ we will always remember ❤️ the place in our lives ❤️ we are very grateful to have a proper good time with the people who were there ❤️ people in our lives ❤️ we all want to go back to with time travel maybe we could ❤️ 😊keep the faith
I only went to the Casino once because I was so terrified of the hard lads with Stanley knives knocking about......but I did it! And the music? Oh Jesus.....Dobie Gray still makes me cry.
in the late 70's i worked for a supermarket called Hillards head office at CLECKHEATON in Yorkshire and we were always opening new stores and when we did we had free nights out to visit them, well the coach left Lincoln and pretty soon we were gorging ourselves on free booze n grub and a visit to the local clubs... OMG late 70's 17 years old free everything but the clubs and the music were totally outstanding and yes Northern Soul was on the menu.... What a blast until the journey home throwing up and work a few hours later, absolute minging head and being a butcher... still got the scars in 2023 to prove drinking and butchery not the best combination the morning after the sensational night only a few hours ago, awesome and a lifetime of memories and rather bloodied fingers😂😂 Northern Soul fabulous in every way but the knives and cleavers a few hours later totally unforgiving, miss those crazy nights buy not the minging hangovers 👍👍👍
Used to catch the train from Derby to Wigan Casino and get back the next day. Everything was so innocent then, we just went to dance and enjoy ourselves, those were the days
They certinly was I used to go Leicester palley on a Sat night catch the milk train home get to bed about 4am my mum never live it down on Sunday mornings how I got home is a misery to this day so what I would do it again
Fabulous times that will never be matched by the plastic artificial music of today. Back then, it didn't matter what age you were - no-one judged you. C'mon everybody let's do it all again!
We danced all night from around midnight till around 8a.m. We had a coach to get us from Harrogate, it was some of the finest times....fuelled only on our own adrenalin, personalities, friendships and coke (the bottled sort!), never saw any drugs, the atmosphere was enough! There seems to be no depth or direction these days unless it is channeled through a computer/mobile phone. We seemed to be happier, certainly genuinely fitter, your life was fun & enjoyment... not a round of personal trainers and expensive gym classes...we just lived life to the full. I had two parallel loves - soul & my trusty Ben Shermans/flares (epic!), but had my jeans and leathers and my Norton Dominator....my life was good!!
If you saw no drugs you weren't looking far. Most people around you on the dance floor were high as kites. It was brilliant though wasn't it - Jill - Burnley gang.
People being magnificent, at their best. Simply love it. Never came across the scene and kind of wish I did. Born in the late 70s. I've listened to much of the musical genres and enjoyed these tubes but never explored the lifestyle until now, incredible.
I am gad there is another new generation.. who will bring probly a mix of pop, with a touch of modern music, with soul...LONG Live Our NORTHERN SOUL..& am Scottish living West of Scotland.!
I was a 21 yr old punk living ln slough in 1977 when about 10pm my 2 flatmates from barrow asked if i wanted to go out-----wot at this time ---i said! We ended up at wigan casino- one of h7 the best nights of my life. I am 64 and still go to clubs!!!
I've never seen myself in these films until now!! Twice. Once a glimpse through the dancers and the group outside was the Burnley crowd waiting for the coach in the morning. Many friends no longer with us. 😢 But good times - feels like yesterday too. KTF
What a time kids aint got a clue. It kept ya fit with or without the obvious, i,d go back there tomorrow wag school an tell me parents i was stayin at me mates. till i got found out. never mind done me no harm. been into every kind of music since over the years reggae, rock, indie but i always come back to this epic sound, keep the faith luv the soul.x
Loved it, I remember getting the Barton bus back to nottm and some lad would sit next to me and sing long after tonite is all over I font remember his name unfortunately ❤❤❤🤷♀️
Fookin loved Wigan Casino Club. Went nearly every week in my early teens. Way better sounds to be had than this vid suggests. Chaulkies ruled the night, barbs for the come down in the morning at the swimming pool. Great times, glad i was born at the right time to be there in the best days of it all. Keep the faith.
Northern Soul: Passé strutting via self-indulgent exhibitionists using ridiculous dance-moves whilst clothed in what even by 70s standards would fly past any stupidity test. Worn by the sort of people that require "designer-labels' to satiate their desire to tribe and hide the fact that few were ever going anywhere. These morons blew their wages just to get to this place and in so doing the Wigan Casino kept them just where they were. All done whilst missing the Elephant-in-the-Room, they listened to what was by definition second and third and often fourth division soul records. Which bit did I get wrong? The equivalent today would be a loser wearing a Burberry hoody driving round in a lime-green Corsa with a purple-underlighting kit trying to sell it for as much as all the tat he's covered it with cost him.
you are part of the scene and always willbe by lovin the music,,,i was 15 when i first went to wigan in 76 i still love the music now with apassion and thanx to youtube hearing new tune even now that i,ve never heard before ktf,,,,
Hi! I love Northern Soul lot. There's Ghost In My House - Dean Taylor, Out On The Floor - Dobie Gary, Tainted Love - Gloria Jones it does get me on dance floor, I do sing, clap, spin around, kicks I love to do lot on dance floor. Amaze Norther Soul Classics. I am a Mod since I was teenager in 80s - 1994, I am still Mod. My Harrington Jacket does have Northern Soul Keep In Faith patch, I wear my Harrington jacket wherever where I go. I love to dance. Northern Soul is amaze music. I did dance all night. I still dance everyday. I am great fitness, I have fun, I enjoy it lot.
Wow, all those years ago!! Don't get to TH-cam too much but am amazed at all the old sounds - and memories!! If anyone remembers us crazy guys from Cheltenham, Glos from probably 1975/6 etc .... wow so long ago and so many memories!!
I had a friend who used to go to the Casino all-nighter THEN drive with his friends to Scarborough for the all day-er. I used to marvel at his endurance. Maybe it was the Coca Cola or lots of coffee? But when he got home he’d sleep 3 days straight.😴
I loved Northern Soul. I was too young to go to the Wigan Casino but my neighbours did and travelled there from the Black Country. Long pleated skirts and white ankle socks. Fashion was shit for the women. Look at the men dance, superb. Dirty dancing eat your heart out! This music will live on and on in my heart.
Mid 70s at the Brunel Rooms, Swindon. I'm boring a hole in the dance floor doing on-the-spot screw pirouettes, backdrops, side-flips, sole-slips & skids, when a guy comes over... "ere mate, where'd you learn to dance loik dat, it looks total bollocks!" My girlfriend sent him packing with "He's got more bollocks than a posing sh*t standing on the sidelines alone getting drunk - plus a girlfriend, now F*** off'. The bloke put his drink down and left the club. Point? There always were jealous tossers that don't envy your dancing, just your ability to have fun. Keep thy Faith. Skid (Mark)
me too, I was so envious of my sister who was old enough but preferred Motown. We still go the allnighters and weekenders now though - TOGETHER, she finally saw sense
@@ACERASPIRE1 Wasn't much Charlie about in early 70s. But we did a good variety of speed. Happy to say I helped keep the Wide Awake Club on their feet for many years which all helped buy my records. But some of us just had to take it a step further. Messed us up completely on barbs and smack. then of course we all fouund E's in the mid/late 80s so Stafford and 100 club was a great time back then. Drugs and the scene just go together like bacon and eggs.
@@bukejakely154 I was speeding my tits off 7 days a week, dancing for 3 of them. Might not have had any spare fat on me but was strong as a ox and fast as lightning!
And you think these days that the dance moves are new, think again. Iused to live in Wigan but live in Germany for over 40years. I also used to go to the casino on a Saturday night with my sister
Take me back to the wonderful and happy days of the 70’s.
To them who put thumbs down!! You ain't got a clue to what good music was and still is! I'm 60 yes old and wont listen to anything else. My body aches and pains everywhere, but put on the vinyl s and theve gone well for a bit anyway. Always KTF.

It’s great isn’t it they just love dancing
Well ,this music originated from your side of the pond ,but it was working class youth from northern England that took it to their hearts
I used to go to Wigan Casino, from 1976 through to 1980, fantastic nights, but the last time I was there was in early 1982, I was a fireman, fighting the fire when it burned down, a very sad day!!

Wow! 40 years slip away so fast.
Wow, all those years ago!! Don't get to TH-cam too much but am amazed at all the old sounds - and memories!! If anyone remembers us crazy guys from Cheltenham, Glos from probably 1975/6 etc .... wow so long ago and so many memories!!
Like an olden day rave. Looks great time machine pls. Defo worth a trip back.
I had a friend who used to go to the Casino all-nighter THEN drive with his friends to Scarborough for the all day-er. I used to marvel at his endurance. Maybe it was the Coca Cola or lots of coffee? But when he got home he’d sleep 3 days straight.😴
Scarboro dayers? What year was this?

My dad is on here :) 4.42 in , red shirt!
Northern soul rocks f ing big time
Cool dad !!
You must of been just a twinge in his loins back then.
That must be just beyond words to see the old lad giving it the big one. we were all young once.
hey thats my dad also ! Hi Sis
Best music ever at the best nightclub in the world !!
OH MY GOSH BACK in the day AY!!!!!!
OH GOSH! Just come across this!!!!! FAB FAB stuff!
I've ALWAYS been a NORTHERN SOUL GIRL! 💃💃💃💃💃💃💃👊✊🤜🤛🤲🙌👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
I have just watched the video of the Wigan Casino. I used to go there of course when i was younger, never forget it. Susan Fazackerley
No but I have a Uncle Tom who was brought up in Wallgate.
The best ever bring it on northern soul KEEP THE FAITH
We still go the allnighters and weekenders now though - TOGETHER, she finally saw sense
wow about 6am , going on the stairs to cool down, seeing the morning light come through the windows ..oh no , great times ...
1973-1975, was a fantastic time at the casino. Then it went mainstream, TV cameras, tourists, and dance school graduates posing as soulies on TOTP.
This how people looked before computers and Mackie D's! Fit, healthy, happy! ALIVE!!! KTF!
snorting coke and amphetamines are very healthy arnt they!
CORRECT enuff sed KTF. 💪👍😉
All on stimulants no wonder they were all skinny
@@bukejakely154 I was speeding my tits off 7 days a week, dancing for 3 of them. Might not have had any spare fat on me but was strong as a ox and fast as lightning!

A place where you could lose yourself on the dancefloor for the night , happy times indeed
And you think these days that the dance moves are new, think again. Iused to live in Wigan but live in Germany for over 40years. I also used to go to the casino on a Saturday night with my sister
