I am 72 from Cambridge and I still well into it with great Memories !! Staring at the Twisted wheel back in 68 Torch, 76 club Burton on Trent Sunday afternoon. WIgan, Blackpool Vava and many others!
Unless you was a regular in mrms in the early 70s you’ll never know what an atmosphere dance music can bring , and I mean any dance music throughout the years if you was lucky enough like myself you’ll never ever forget , good luck to the kids these days glad you enjoy the music and the events but for me every week in m’s was the ultimate no film can recreate that regardless of how much they try
You couldn’t dance like you wanted to do in mrms due to the amount of people both on the dance floor and stood around it you couldn’t even lift your arms ha ha was that tight , every one in there was wet through with sweat and condensation good times people used to stand around with a bottle of coke stretched out for any one to take drink also with chewing gum
There is certainly a lot of love in this video, passion skill and the love of a an era. Respect to those new and old to the scene, by far the best video I've seen. KTF.
Great sounds from a gloomy past... It was grim up North but it's dated now the music will last in people's memories... My old fella was one of the originals from The Twisted Wheel along with my Mum back in the sixties... The sounds were unreal.. The stories were about the place and the artists they saw a real testament to the working class Northern kids who loved American Soul music.... Nuff said Northern Soul for the early to mid Seventies let it be... And remember it's an Era thing never to be replicated it's the 21st century guys..Peace out to you all xxxx
good music never dies, why shouldn't the younger generation get into it and put their personal spin on the scene,if you're too old put your slippers on, smoke your pipe fade away with you t memories, the music been past on to a younger crowd, I can still cut it and I'm in my50's keeps me fit and lively
d.p edmondson things are too bad in the world now not to try to go back to the glory days of Northern Soul. The world is so freaky now with climate change hysteria and Brexit. Kids really need northern soul now more than ever. Emoji Music and Crap Rap is like throwing garbage to these kids. They need the Soul back.
+davina moddettstylishgirl thanks it's my own vinyl recorded onto mp3 keep getting claims by thousands of idiots claiming they own copyright they do don't own the vinyl rights been collecting records since I was 10 no one will tell me a record my uncle gave me they own it way back in 1974, idiots, lmao!!!!
Do I hear Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels hint hint? - for the "new to the scene" - please identify songs and artists when posting - thank you for this fun track from the 1960s DAVEDJ
yes David I put at the end of the video a photo of Mitch Ryder singing with Otis Redding saying '' Soul music by Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels'' the guy is an underrated artist, what a powerhouse of a voice.
actually it is look at the end photograph ''music by Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels'' Mitch pictured with Otis Redding Otis last appearance before his tragic death less than 24 hours later, cheers
Kind of a bit of heart break listening and seeing the vid. Our boys told us that Wigan Casino was a no girls zone so we could never go.... Boys went and we believed them....
no probs Mitch was one of the last performers to duet with Otis Redding on television 24 hours before Otis died in the plane crash he is a powerhouse of a singer very underrated and overlooked check out on You Tube his song ''Jenny Take A Ride'' with the Detroit Wheel blast the ears off you with the energy and soul in his voice, the biz!!
@@rld8163 The term, 'Northern Soul' came into general use in late 1970. This record was released before then. It is the people who were 'late on the scene' that try and use catch-all phrases to claim it. It is snobbish of me to say this but it is a fact. The Twisted Wheel club was the mother ship of the scene--long before N/S.
@@jamescarr1467 brilliant, Tks for your reply. Yeah I was thinkin maybe you were referring to twisted wheel. I’ve heard many times how kids were goin to a soul shop in London (often when Northern teams would play the London clubs) asking for a certain kind of sounding soul and the shop owner started (therefore) calling it ‘Northern’ soul and the name stuck but v helpful that you’ve put a date to it too. And this too also points to the fact that a scene was already under way (wheel opened 65 right?) and later got given a name, I’m guessing also there’s a bit of a difference in what was played at the wheel and then in other venues like Wigan. Cheers James.
@@rld8163 There were two twisted Wheels. The first one was on Brazenose St. and the second on Whitworth St,. both central Manchester-owned and ran by the Abadi bros. The Whiworth St. Wheel was much more the beginning of the scene.I recommend that you join the Fab 4 Twisted Wheel group. The other venues after the Wheel, played the same music but then djs went stateside to search for 'undiscovered' records. A little too commercial for me and everyone seemed to do the same dance. As though they were 'assimilated' by the Borg.

Soul was about the MUSIC
Most of the style council types your on about couldn't dance anyway to busy looking at themselves in the mirror!!!
It'll never be over for me 💕
