    I’ve owned and used a Capri (Cowboy model) for about three years now. Mine was ordered pretty spartan, and is comfortable from 10F to 90F with just the ceiling fan/vent. The trick is to think of it as a rigid tent that one doesn’t have to erect or strike, and not to think of it as a portable palace. Good folks to work with, Capri. Highly recommended.

  • @kriskabin
    @kriskabin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    The Capri is the best deal, even fully loaded they're a hell of a lot cheaper than most of the campers listed here.

    I like the idea of the really portable campers that pop out and have surprisingly cool features for the money.

      @@instakee7040 the unit on back is covered by the car policy,and if not you have the wrong carrier,actually finding a real truck camper now is hard,they've all been bought up by people losing their lives in the covid coverup,i bought mine in the nick of time,its an oldie,the absolute first thing you do with a camper or c class is mop the roof,water leaks suck,use the expensive stuff,then everything you put in it stays dry,ive lived in one for years,every divorce i'm back in the camper,for awhile,its nice to get lost,oh yeah be damn sure to buy 2to 3 acres somewhere to come off the road for awhile,repairs are best made at home,i bought 2 for 7000 and never regretted the purchase,neighbors constantly wanting to buy it ,what for ? there camper of course

    There's a lot of great ideas in this video. Of course someone with some skill can build one themselves, but who has the time. The one thing I loved most about this video is that all the products are made here in the USA. Regardless of the overpriced items shown here, it's nice to see companies making products by Americans for Americans.

  • @notsosilentmajority1
    @notsosilentmajority1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Gotta love #6. It has just about everything you can reasonably expect (tv too, lol) and prices start at 10K. That's for a full sized truck so it's a decent size. If anyone is going to spend 100K or more, you'd be better off with a totally tricked out 5th. wheel and you'd still be able to unhook it and utilize your truck like normal.

  • @GuzziMatt1
    @GuzziMatt1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Thanks for posting, coming from Australia we don't often see what else the world makes, only what's available down here. You folk in the USA are spoilt for choice - cost aside, you certainly have a varied choice which we don't have. Congrats to US manufacturers, your products are very well thought out, steong engineering and custom to specific trucks and look far superior to Chinese made imports (flooding our market).
    Guzzi.

    I am now having these videos pop up in my recommended list. This is great advertising for the whole industry. Absolutely nothing I've seen is affordable to most people, and no one that has money would pay these insane prices. Except for marks. These videos cost nothing. If only 900 of the 900K people that watch this by a 50k tent, it's a big win.

  • @beefzerkee
    @beefzerkee 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Those 10k and below ones look pretty neat. I work on the road around the country and when I'm not working I like to go up north to the mountains and camp. This could be perfect for someone like me.

    My grandpa used to have an old ford bronco with a HUGE camper on the back, used it as his hunting truck. Every single year drove it from Florida to Colorado, to Ohio, Montana, everywhere. He ended up getting rid of it around 2005, it had over 500,000 miles on it.

    I like the arctic fox although number one because the guy couldn't find his on the campers what he wanted and he wanted to be the perfect camper you can buy the shell you can customize it yourself or you can have them customize it is just a wonderful thing for a full-time or RV or like me and my husband we run a mobile Ministry out of our over the cab camper and those places were sometimes or Sunday evening church so be nice to have as much storage as we can and we were able to do that if we do get the number one

    FYI: propane tanks hanging on the back do not meet DOT rules to be within the vehicles bumpers. Nobody has ever been ticketed. However, an accident that causes injuries or damage as a result of those propane tanks rupturing during an accident is your, not insurance’s, unlimited liability.

  • @LivingOnCash

    Thanks for showing different options. The Capri seems to be the only one reasonably priced. All the other are ridiculous and I think they are trying to capitalize on the whole current "overlanding" fad. I wonder if they actual sell them at their list prices or if they negotiate to something more reasonable. I have a diesel pickup and have been camping with just a standard shell but I'd like something with more room so very interested in these but for the price they ask, I could buy a nice used class C or B. Most likely will end up with a used 4 Wheel Camper although they are hard to find.

      I bought an old pop up camper for 1,000 bucks and used it the first weekend I had it. It rained the whole time but we had a blast inside listening to music, cooking, etc. I've since done a lot of upgrades, but I've also been enjoying it this whole time. So let someone else take that huge depreciation hit and go have some fun!

    Arctic Fox seemed like the best choice/price to me, it sure why these things are so high priced? Can get a fully self contained trailer for way less. Most of these look like do it yourself style shells/campers. Got a good feeling from the Arctic Fox brand and this is the style I’m looking for. Thanks for the video!

    Best part is I have had numerous RVs in my past. Which allows me the most practical choices in my knowledge base as being best suited for my needs. First of all never buy new as I have lost time and time again. Second in your search for the perfect model for your needs always try to assume your future needs. I figure in Montana most backwoods camping areas are accessible to any size unit you like. So I needed room for my SideXSide then the choice was 07’ Toyhauler. Next I only needed 1 bathroom + shower. I want comfort so I choose slide outs with 2 queen sized beds. Yes it’s 36’ But the bonus was the fact I can boonedock for weeks if I wanted. The roof line allows me plenty of room for 2-200 watt 24 volt solar panels. The garage allows for 3 -8D agm batteries for entertainment System. The On board Onan 5500 Generator allows for any excess power needs. 4- AGM series 34 batteries in the front with separate 40 watt panel to maintain complete charge.105 gals. of water storage allows for showers every other day for a couple weeks. 3 - Fantastic fans for hot air exhaustion so as to limit AC use. Storage allows for a large selection of needful items for Comfort related issues including food items. And no I am not a full timer but may at some point consider such life style. The unit cost me 10K and I did have to do some maintenance in the over all setup. Total expenses came to 18K but trust me it is a very sound investment in Bug-Out Insurance. If spend your hard earned money wait for someone who made a bad choice. And just wants to rid their selves of your next investment. Never forget to purchase more then you need on someone else’s dime.

      I built my own, and even with "free labor" and quite a bit of free materials, I was surprised at the prices for some things that are specific for campers. The jacks/legs to raise the camper to load/unload it on the truck were $900.00 for 4. A good fridge is from $700.00-$2,000.00 A/C units are $600.00-$1,800.00 then just the little stuff adds up quick, ie, interior wood, stain, paint, sealer, windows, plumbing and electric, etc..
      My cost was $3,500.00 but fortunately I was able to get most of the materials for the structual part for free, the interior is what was the most costly.
      (Except the jacks/legs, I ended up buying 4 new, $900.00)
      So add in labor, warranties, overhead, etc. And I can see how they can get so expensive.

    The good overview video, but too much emphasis on pop up low-cost campers. Really need to have a video dedicated to each type of camper. I'm quite shocked that you did not include Lance campers in your evaluation, do you know about them? Keep up the good work and let's get better!

    The best slide in truck campers are made in BC Canada. Northern Lite is hands down the best.Bigfoot is a close second. Check them out for yourself online. They are not cheap but hold their value if taken care of because they are 4 season and will not leak. I own a NL 10.2 and I can tell you it is a well made, well thought out camper that will keep you comfortable in almost any weather. Truck campers aren't for everyone, but if you need a camper, and want the best you need to check out Northern Lite and Bigfoot before deciding.

    The #9 Hallmark campers are very well made, as are the #7 Arctic Fox's. I was seriously considering a camper to live in when I retire, but I want to take lots of toys. Kayaks, mountain bikes, and dirt bikes, so I would end up towing a trailer. If I am going to tow a trailer I may as well have more living space. I am looking at the Desert Fox toy haulers, made by the same company as Arctic Fox. I could boondock longer in a toy hauler because they have 100 gallons of water, a fuel station, and much bigger refrigerator. Yeah, you can't get quite as far into the back country, but once there I could take a 50" SXS or my dirt bike even further, and carry kayaks on the truck to go fishing with.

    The 2nd one starts at $27K? That’s crazy for something that cheap. The 6th one started at $10K and was a much better option. The 8th one for $145K was a complete joke. The Phoenix custom campers seemed like a great deal since they had multiple options and good pricing.

  • @McRocket

    The only one I like is the Capri. It's a spartanish truck camper. But for 'only' $10G...that's seems pretty good value.
    My second choice would be the Arctic Fox (the proper truck camper).
    Most of the others seem ridiculously overpriced for what they give. And if I am going to fork over money for one of these - it better have a bathroom.
    BTW - this announcer does a solid job, IMO.

    I want a camper for my truck but have a drama 3/4 ton long bed with a single cab. Is the single cab going to make the cabover section like a wing that catches air? All the trucks in the pictures are double or extra cabs.

  • @stout_tossme7541

    Capri is a nice camper for the price.
    Arctic Fox has an amazing build quality and, if I am not mistaken, is 4 seasons rated/built. Overall, it is probably the best on this list.
    Some of these are very high priced, they are custom outfits. Google truck campers, you will see they are pricey. Doesn't matter what one you end up with.
