7 Locomotive train, DPUs, fast trains and a 110 year old rare find in the dirt too!

- Here is part 2 to yesterdays' video from Walton, Ky. We got trains on both the CSX Shortline and the NS Rathole line too. One train has 7 locomotives leading, but I believe that only 3 are running as the last 4 are headed to be rebuilt and have covers on the exhaust stack.
I also included a video at the end of an old bottle I found buried in the dirt with Thomas A Edison's signature on it. This bottle contained "battery oil" and from the info I could find out about it, they were used from 1911 to 1914! I found it next to the CSX Shortline behind the Abner Gaines House. The house has been there since the 1790`s and it`s very possible that this bottle may have been in that dirt for close to 100 years. It`s really anybody`s guess though as to how long it`s been there!
Thanks for watching!
Good morning Scott & everyone, 7.52 am it's a chilly morning coffee in the pot feet up watching your video makes a great start to the day! 7 loco N/S train was awesome! 😊👍❤ great find Scott with the old bottle, very nice condition too that a keeper!
Thanks Carol! I will be keeping the bottle. I never find anything like that in one piece, so this one is a keeper!
Hello Scott, I always watch your train videos when I get up first thing in the morning. It’s the best thing to get my day started compared to watching the depressing news. Keep up the good work and have a good day.
Thank you very much! I hear you on the news, I don`t even watch it anymore. You never get the truth, just the spin.
Wow, Scott, great find, Edison bottle, so cool. As cool as the trains you filmed, Have a blessed Saturday, my friend.
Glad you enjoyed it Rev! I really like finding old stuff like that bottle. I was surprised it was still in one piece after all these years!
Cool bottle Scott. Keep it. Nice trains in Walton. They were all in a hurry. I really like that filming location. Much thanks for another great video. Stay safe. ❤
Thanks Margie, I`m glad you liked it! Yes, I`ll be keeping that bottle. I love old stuff like that!
Finding things is fun ! Too funny so many of your subscribers are night owls hoo hoo 🦉! Thanks Scott
You`re welcome Kim! I like finding that old stuff, whether it's in the dirt or a shop!
Me to sir
Wow! What a fabulous mixed manifest! 3 locomotives leading and a trailing DPU. It carried lots of steel pipe, heavy plate steel, coil steel, and an open door TTX box car that appeared to be untagged and beautiful. The DPU was working hard and sounding fantastic! This was my kind of long train. Add to this a shout-out from my friend Scott, and it couldn't get much better, could it? 😃😃😃😃😃❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍
I'm glad you liked it Gary!
@@1960gambit Oh, you're quite welcome, Scott!! 😃😃😃👍❤️👍
Great catches! And a very cool find!
Fantastic video Scott!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Thank you very much, Jim!
That was a super mixed manifest, Scott! I believe it was the (Tim Taylor) train. More power! 😂 Great catch, my friend! It's hard to beat and ultra-fast train, but they did. 😃😃😃❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for a spectacular video, my friend! It had nearly everything. Great trains and scenery, not to mention the stellar story. You really nailed it with this one! 😄😄😄😄😄😄❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
@@1960gambit Don't mention it, Scott. It was my pleasure!
It's been all action packed today. Lovely position to capture all the red hot wheeled trains. Many thanks. Uk 16c overcast and windy.
Thanks Robina. Boy I sure wish you could get some of this heat over there. It was over 30C here today!
Cool power set. Nice toot salute on the second train with the EOT DPU. Neat little dielectric oil bottle. The oil was used to prevent battery terminals from corroding. Might have been from when the line had track signals powered by glass jar batteries. Awesome action beginning to end, enjoyed it much. Thanks Scott!
Tanks P! I did some research on the oil, and they actually dumped it in the glass battery, and it floated on top of the electrolyte to seal it off and keep the off gassing of the water down when they were charging so the that the battery wouldn`t dry out. I was really surprised when I read that because I was thinking like you that it went on the terminals.
@@1960gambit The funny thing about that is it might prevent electrolyte evaporation to an extent but it won't prevent outgassing when charging. The navy tried something like that for the batteries on our submarines in the 30s and the oil contributed to battery fires. I remember when I was a kid watching signal maintainers oiling up the terminals on the glass jar batteries and figured that's what it was for. I still have one of those two gallon thick glass jars made by Westinghouse in my collection. We have some at IRM and they use sodium hydroxide for an electrolyte instead of acid, just like trolley batteries.
Great find at the Gaines House! I wouldn’t sell it- it was meant for you to find. Give it to your wife and put it up on a shelf to admire 😊
That's the plan!
@@1960gambit you better or you’ll be in big trouble with the boss!🤣
That NS train that had the 3 boxcars with open doors was definitely a mixed manifest train in every sense of the word!, it had a little bit of everything! A horn salute for finding that treasure.
Thanks Brian! Have a great day!
Good Thursday morning my friend I hope you’re doing good. Awesome video today I hope the rest of your day is going great. Take care out there today and stay hydrated 🇺🇸🙏🏻
Thanks Bill! Will do!
That small bottle is a nice find. Laying on the ground for 100 plus years. It's really cool.
I have to say that I was very surprised when I got it out of the dirt, and it was still in one piece. I was even more surprised when I googled it and found out how old it was! Lol
Autoracks need luvin' too!❤
That bottle was way cool.
Yes it is. I`m going to keep it! Lol
Awesome find, Scott! That small bottle is so cool!!! 😎😎😎 If I were you, I wouldn't sell it either! Not like it would pay for a college education, but that's something you could give to your grandkids just for the cool factor. You'll have amazing stories to tell them, and they'll think you're the coolest 😎 grandpa ever! 😃😃😃😃❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍
My thoughts exactly! Thanks Gary!
Enjoyed the video. Great find
Thanks Rick! I was surprised when I got it out of the dirt for sure!
Wow! Seven locomotives! That was so cool! You better keep your eye on that guy hanging out by the bushes that talks about what's the hurry. LOL. Hi JT! Nice when you guys can hang out! Noticed the open boxcars. Memories of Shoestring. Again, great music to accompany a great video!
Thanks Libby! Yep, I`ll keep an eye him! Lol
3 thoroughbreds on one train! that's becoming quite rare now.
Great video and awesome catches Gamebit on this nice day😮
Thanks a bunch!
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains, I like them, they're awesome, I already uploaded the video of mine, that has 3 giant-size Intermodal cranes, @1960gambit, Scott, thank you very much and have a nice day and night.
Thanks Ivan! Have a great day!
boy that third one was a rare one these days 3 fully open boxcars!! the last one was an odd one too seems all the autoracks you've caught the past couple months has had at least one articulated car that one didn't! we had one yesterday that had 19 on a row!!
I saw those box cars when they passed and was hoping to see a hobo! Lol 19 articulated cars is something else!
@@1960gambit those doors were too open hobo's like them between a fourth and third open that way they get light air and can see out but can't be seen and reported!!
Another awesome video Scott, and a great find on the little bottle and I would be like you I would not sell that thing for nothing to have something that old just think of everything that bottle has been through but anyway, my friend you stay safe out there and you watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one
Thanks Timmy! It ain`t going anywhere but in my dresser drawer! Lol
Another great one Scott. The Gaines house is a cool location. And a great find on that bottle. It's very possible that it is the survivor of an old trash dump from the house. How it got to the location where you found it is anybody's guess but it's probably pretty certain a dump would have been located a little distance away from the house. Thanks for sharing that, and the video.
Thanks Lou! Yes, I was really surprised to find that bottle where it was. It`s about a 100 yards downhill from the house. I suspect that a railroad worker back in the day just tossed it there and it was covered by dirt over the years. I guess some of it washed off and I spotted it!
@@1960gambit Very probable scenario Scott.
That bottle is the first time I ever heard of one (75 years old) and of course the first I ever saw. I'm surprised that they would go as cheep as 23 dollars, I would think more like $500 or maybe more.
I was a bit surprised about the price till I went to Ebay and looked around. These little bottles are everywhere! LoL
Scott put some water in it and a little flower and give it to Mrs. Gambit
I may just do that! Thanks Carlos!
So how many of those 7 loco’s were running? Nice find with that bottle.
3
the first 2 or 3 it was a power move between yards!!
The first 3 were. The next 4 were on their way to be rebuilt down South somewhere I was told.
Morning Scott. My sons’ school is right next to the NS Dayton District in Columbus and a 7 locomotive train went by about 8 in the morning heading to Cincinnati. It has a bunch of auto racks on it so I’m wondering if it was the same one.
I would say it was. The Dayton District runs down to Cincy to the Gest Street Yard then they cross the Ohio River from there.
You should donate that to a museum
There are dozens of them on EBay.
@1960gambit oh okay I didn't know that lol
Is northbound up or down the hill, Scott? I can't seem to remember that. At least not very often. Thanks, Scott! 🙂🙂
Northbound would be down the Erlanger Hill towards the Ohio River.
@@1960gambit Thank you, Scott! 😄😄
Gotta love old finds.
Unit trains: Can you tell which direction they go loaded adn return empty?
The grain trains seem to be loaded heading South and come back North empty. It varies with the cargo though on the other unit trains. Coal goes both ways it seems.
Good made video, mr 1960gambit.
The train with 7 locomotives was in the hurry 4 locomotives going to the workshop. For a revision and complete overhaul. The Abner Gains house can whe visit that? And when is it opened just are museum here in Zandvoort from wednesday until saterday in the afternoon? Hold that little bottle when ask why you can say: Hey i found this but look good this signed through Edison. Thx for this topvideo 🚆🚆👍👍💪👍💪👌🚆🚆🚆 in Walton KT.
Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands.
Thanks Roelof. Yes, the Gaines House is opened up at different times of the year for various functions. I went through it at Christmas last year. It is very neat inside. I hope to go through it again this year and try to do some video of it.
