Having watched so many videos when I actually got to the Kandy station,I panicked that I didn't have a seat. However,in Sri Lanka,some people a quite happy to give up their seat half way through the journey. Seating hogging does not happen much. Thank you for the entertaining video. I am sure both of you have been on some TV programs?

When I see this our first visit to Ella came into my mind in 2018. We took the train from Colombo. It was a 10 hour journey. Just like yesterday. Once we get into Ella we felt like we came into some strange land. There are so many tourists. I think you might feel the same way. Very nice video. Thanks for sharing...

Wonderful experience. So happy that you guys enjoyed this journey. I am a srilankan living in Australia and big rail fan and last time I took this journey was in 1995 when this scenic route was not so popular.
Few important points.
There are 4 trains from Colombo to Badulla operating in this scenic route. The one you took is known as Podi manike which starts its journey from Colombo at 5:55 am. The next train to start from Colombo is Denuwara manike at 6:35am which is an intercity train with fewer stops. Next train to Badulla is Udarata manike departing Colombo at 8:30 am. Last daytime train to Badulla leaves Colombo at 9:45 am.
All these 4 trains consists of 1st, 2nd and 3rd class compartments. First 3 trains are newer push pull type power sets where as the last one is a locomotive driven one.
Fastest and most convenient way to reach Badulla is using Denuwara manike intercity express where prices of similar class tickets are slightly higher. It doesn’t go via Kandy as Podi manike or udarata manike and stops at the 3rd platform in peradeniya junction. It’s away from the main station so you need to be aware of that.
The last train no 1008 has an observation saloon car at the end of the train which is famous for its Panoramic views.

My Father used to work for the Ceylon Railways as a building foreman. He was the Building foreman during the construction of the Rail station. When it was completed and opened to the public. He felt really happy. I like Kandy .

Return journey Ella to Colombo I did book the Observation Coach . My family and Friends went with me to Ella.The trip was Sponsored by me.
In January 2020. I went Ella from Kandy by train. I took the night mail train from Kandy to Ella to save a day. By 7am the night mail will reach Ella. I did book 1st class since the train gets pretty full.

Guys not to be a spoilt sport of something but I would caution you about putting your feet out whilst sitting on the floor of the train .. there are some areas that have a low platform and high ones , all randomly.. some tourists have been badly injured 🤕 by doing so .. some payed with their lives . So next time 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏be safe .. sorry again if I sound like a grand ma 😬😬. Thank you for coming to our little Island 🇱🇰🇱🇰..

Not only lockdown absolutely no transpo (and that means grab) and if you have a car 1 rider allowed don't come to Manila at the moment.
