  • This was a call for a high liquid level alarm where the receiver was at 100% capacity. I also found several issues with the defrost settings.

    Working somewhat blind, you did great as your process of elimination (fundamentals) took over as you worked it out through order of operation, great job dude.

    You got it. With that discharge pressurization valve if it was close the liquid will just sit it the receiver.
    Another thing to check is that you don't have overlap with defrost cycles, especially long run cases.
    I find depending on the length of run and pipe sizes you might have to set your differential higher up to 35#.
    You'll know if you keep having a set of cases not reaching termination temp or you are defrosting a set and drain is not plugged up. Usually every couple of months depending on store humidity.
    A quick way to check flow after putting a system on defrost is to grab the liquid line check valve that goes around the LL solenoid for that system. it should start to feel cold fairly quickly then you'll know the coil is starting to defrost. If you don't then you know where to start looking, discharge bypass(pressurization) to the receiver, liquid line modulating valve, etc.
    is your termination air temp or dump line temp? we set termination at 55f for the minimum case. sometimes lower if there is a build-up of condensation on case canopy or frosting on product top shelf.

      C Thompson thanks for the advice. Yeah,we had a similar issue in the summer where another tech couldn’t get the cases to defrost well, so he increased defrost times and raised termination temps. Man this rack had the oldr energized for like 5 hours straight, receiver at 100% the whole time, lol. I had to undo his “fix”. Lol.
      And those temps for termination are on the piping.

    I live 3 degree north of the equator and there’s no such thing as cold weather here and the system built here only caters for what you call summer. Therefore I have no knowledge on this and it is the first time I see a rack which runs like this, other than on single-line diagram. Bravo anyway.

    Another guy new to racks here, but I figure I’d give my two cents worth.
    You might’ve been going down a rabbit hole with the correlation between defrosts and liquid level.
    You saw the rack was in split condenser mode. when that happens in the fall, and before the temp gets cold enough to start flooding the condenser(after fan cycling wont cut it). Thats going to be when your liquid level it as its highest. Think about how much refrigerant gets pumped out of the summer condenser.
    Was this rack retrofitted recently and possibly just has a bit too much gas?

    • @rookierefrigeration4357
      @rookierefrigeration4357  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trever Kirk we had some similar issues in the summer on this rack. But it was definitely not overcharged in full condenser. Now that it splits it may be. Maybe by 10-15%. Were going back out this week and dialing it in.
