    Boris Karloff was a fine actor. His series of Wong movies are still terrific entertainment.

    Karloff was great in anything. Check out "The Body Snatcher". I am convinced it was the best example of his acting talent. A true icon in motion picture history.

    Lee Tong Foo, Karloff's servant, delivered a memorable line in Bogart's, "Across the Pacific" ~ "Much trouble, alla time, much trouble." Somehow I never forgot it!

    Spoiler: I only wish Lotus Long (aka Karen Sorell, real name Lotus Pearl Shibata) had a longer role in this one. ;-)
    Because of her stage name, people assumed she was Chinese and it kept her out of the internment camps during WWII. She was actually mixed Japanese/Hawaiian ancestry, and yes I had a big crush on her as a kid. Thanks @CCC!

      It seems like a lot of people still were like that in 1962. Grandfather got on my Father's case around that time, when Dad went into Pittsburgh on his own (or maybe with a fed school friends) while *not* dressed up, just to go to a library or something.
      In case anyone needs to know how I know, well, Father told me about it once or twice.

    weren't the Mr Wong movies remade into Charlie Chan movies, I notice the stories are almost the same except for names of people in movies. I like to know why they were remade

    • @NancyDrewe
      @NancyDrewe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marshall Mayes They weren’t remade. They’re two different characters. The stories are not really the same either. There are two actors who play Chan, though.

      @@NancyDrewe Not to be pedantic, but there were three. Most people remember Warner Oland (16 films) and Sidney Toler (22 films) but forget Roland Winters did the last 6 films. And not to be especially pedantic, but if you include the abomination done by Peter Ustinov there were 4. And that's not counting the serials in the 20s where several actors played Chan, though he wasn't the main character. ;-)

    • @anonagain
      @anonagain 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh - and not to be incredibly annoyingly pedantic, but I forgot about the made-for-TV movie (with good reason) - "The Return of Charlie Chan" in 1973. It starred Ross Martin (yes, Artemis Gordon) as Chan. I watched it once and promised myself I'd never watch it again. The only exception would be if CCC showed it with live chat. :)
