DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth. Now Popular does not mean official even though two of the formats I will be covering were official formats being Japan Nintendo Cup and VGC, but it is an indicator of what a good portion of competitive players thought was “optimal” at the time. Also sometimes the Pokemon Battle Historia doesn't provide enough information to talk about certain Pokemon so I add Smogon analysis to make sense of it. This is pretty rare though.
To the people asking why I don't cover Smogon Singles for Gens 1 and 2: It wouldn't really be a history video if I covered those because online Smogon gen 1 meta to my knowledge wasn't actually played until late 2000s. I wanted to cover tournaments/competitive battling that was actually played during the early years of Pokemon (late 90s).
To the people asking why I cover Smogon at all for singles: To my knowledge, Smogon was the most popular format for Gens 3-5 and held a number of tournaments throughout the years. As for Gen 6, I am not covering Battle Spot Singles because there is more information and explanations about sets being used relative to their own meta on Smogon. In other words, there are few written analyses about Battle Spot Pokemon besides the Top tiers and I would like to avoid theorycrafting because it may have a hint of bias (though I theorycraft if I REALLY couldn't find information on a certain Pokemon). The keyword here is explanations. Though I did find statistics of most Pokemon used and most moves used, there wasn't really any explanations on why. Also the few Pokemon I did find analysis of for Top Tier Battle Spot Singles had very similar move sets to the Smogon OU sets anyway.
For the record, I do not care what rules or formats people play their battles by nor am I saying these formats are the only formats that should be played. The way you play Pokemon is between you and your opponent and I will not fault you for using evasion or whatever, I just like examining popular tournament formats.

Yeah that was the reason why she had a black face. She was originally based on a multitude of yokai and my guess was a possessed object with ice powers... sadly outrage over blackface made them have to retcon that idea.

That moment when you realize Jynx faired out better than Magmar and Electibuzz WITHOUT an evolution. Could you imagine what would happen if it got one? It would suddenly become scary as well with eviolite as well.
Eviolite wouldn't make it that great tbh, but if there was an item that upped both attack stats instead of defensive stats, maybe it could be good.

I will never not be furious that Electabuzz and Magmar got evolutions while Jynx was left high and dry. They've always felt like a trio to me, especially when they all got pre-evos in gen 2 together, so i really don't understand the skip.
@@theoryoftheinnocent Yeah, it kinda sucks. Then again, if Gen 8 introduced a Jynx evo and offensive Eviolite, Jynx and Scyther would be dunking on Lando, Greninja and the Tapus for #1 OU mons.
Still would like to see an evolution with +20 to Speed/SpD/HP/SpA. Keep it having Dry Skin and it'd become a serious UU/OU threat. Or, even better, give it Storm Drain and Freeze Dry and watch it dab on Pelipper, Gyarados, and Greninja.

@Shea Is Bae: I actually am not too surprised myself. Jynx has exclusive access to one of the best sleep-inducing moves in the game (Lovely Kiss), as well as good special attack, solid STABs, some pretty good coverage options (most notably Focus Blast and Shadow Ball, more so the former than the latter), a decent speed tier, and Nasty Plot to raise special attack. In all honesty, Jynx may have some incredibly obvious and glaring weaknesses, but she's capable of being a monster if she gets a chance to put the tools she was gifted with to good use.

Jynx is one of the pokemon that also shows hail NEEDS to give more of a buff to ice types above just "blizzard has full accuracy"
Ice types in general need a buff:
First off, they should resist water and have the advantage over it (ice displaces water and it freezes water).
It should also resist bug, flying and ground.
@@aceclover758 I never understood the weakness to rock consider ice erodes rock as well. But rock doesn't need anything else being weak to it.
I actually think Ice should resist electric - it is a poor conductor.

Well Gamefreak have thrown Ice-types some bone. More mons have gotten Snow Warning, Freeze-Dry exists. And this gen they got the ability Slush Rush so they could have their own weather-speed boost ability and maybe most meta-defining this gen is Alola-Ninetales with Aurora Veil. But while that's all well and good they have yet to address the underlying problem with the Ice-type. It's a poor defensive typing. Until they do that Ice-types as a whole are never becoming a mainstay barring a select few who hit the jackpot with typing, ability, stats and movepool.

@@Psycho3418 Ice is such a spectacular offensive typing the defensive deficiencies are frankly understandable, & have you ever used Avalugg in an inverse battle ? That thing is amazing .
I think a simple plus 10 to its base speed would help it immensely. I've always enjoyed using Jynx. Its typically pretty overpowered in the regular non-meta game.

I've always loved Jynx, even when she was laughed at on the playground. I'm glad she was eventually found to be competitively viable so others can see how good she is too.

I mean a fakeout from mega lopunny has a 25% chance to OH KO from full: 252 Atk Lopunny-Mega Fake Out vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Deoxys-Attack: 211-249 (87.5 - 103.3%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
I think jynx could benefit from more speed, give lovely kiss an accuracy boost, and the banishment of stealth rocks, then again so would a lot of other things

Centaur Man 2 stealth rocks, the worst move ever made in pokemon
Stupid Stealth Rocks. My beloved Articuno and Lapras have no chance now.
Spikes could be dealt with decently, and affected most pokemon equally. But with gen 4 adding Stealth Rock, everything inmediatly crashed. Things are even worse in Let's GO, where there are Stealth Rocks but no way to remove them. At all. Typhlosion got an even worse time, with it not getting any move updates in gen 3 (so no Eruption then) and gen 4 adding Stealth Rock at the same time it got Eruption, making Eruption basically useless (from 150 down to 113 power, just use Fire Blast for that) if Stealth Rocks are active.
Instead of getting rid of half the Pokemon in Sword and Shield, Game Freak should get rid of Stealth Rock

I always liked Jynx. Honestly it might benefit from either a stat boost or two or a new form/regional variant.
In spite of the unfortunate controversy surrounding it's design, Jynx always had one of the most unique designs and interesting back-stories to me. I like how it's based on a Yokai, but the blackface thing was always going to draw controversy. I always pictured it's hair being a wig that the Yokai spirit latched itself onto, and used it as a conduit to manifest it's physical form.
If there is ever to be an evolution given to Jynx (slim to none, but one can dream), it would be nice to see how they could expand on the back-story of the design itself. Jynx is honestly one of the most mysterious Pokemon out there, aside from it's sleep inducing kisses and penchant for dancing, we know virtually nothing else about it. What does it feed on, does it have any natural predators/enemies? Where does it get it's ice and psychic abilities from? There's a lot of room for potential growth there, and it'd be intriguing to see what could come of it, although odds are GF won't risk generating further controversy with it...but ehh, who knows?

Well, I was certainly surprised myself by how good Jynx actually was. Yes, it may have dropped down more and more, but at least it wasn't terrible where it ended up. Reminds me of a female athlete who finds out that competing in major leagues doesn't suit her, but she instead finds great pleasure in amateur competitions and really excels there
It was also refreshing to not have NU and RU be mentioned in the video in a way that it means "this Pokémon sucks"
I love Jynx. Glad to see she held on to her status as a serious threat as long as she did.

It really didn't, it's based on a Yokai called Yama Uba. The reason it is 'potentially hurtful' is because too many people can't be bothered to learn anything about other cultures. Hell, it isn't even the only example of a Yokai-inspired Pokemon (Electabuzz and Ninetales in the same generation, based on Oni and Kitsune respectively)

I've been watching these videos every Sunday when they come out for almost 2 years. I've never played competitive pkm and to this day I still have no idea what most of it even means. But dam do you do an amazing job making these videos, I watch for your amazing delivery of it.

I made an all ice team back in Gen5 and found Jynx to be a fairly fast glass canon.
Jynx is such a weird pokemon. It's best stat is sp attack but it only learns physical moves by leveling.

I remember this one time when I was playing Randoms on Showdown where I was down to Jynx and my opponent had Basculin at half health. I think he had +2 Atk from Baton Pass. Anyway he uses Aqua Jet, when he also had Crunch and he was faster than me. I think you know where this went after Aqua Jet.

No, Jynx has dry skin. It lives, probably, then sends Basculin straight to hell.

My favorite part about this series of videos is that you guys started off with a lot of generation 1 Pokémon because they obviously have more history and have been in the spotlight the longest. I am bringing thus up because I am concerned. Even with the one upload a week, you guys have covered a majority of Pokémon that allow you to have a large info packed episode. Clearly competitive Pokémon still is going strong, but gen 4 Pokémon or older are basically the only ones you can have enough content for the amazing videos you guys make. BUT now that a new generation is coming it gives some more wiggle room for more Pokémon history :) it makes me happy knowing I can still continue to enjoy False Swipe Gaming videos for at least awhile longer.

Nice, I was actually asking for Jynx for a while, but not a lot of other people were. So this was a treat for me, she always did have some neat uses. And I still think she should have gotten an evolution like Magmar and Electibuzz.
My exact thoughts, I didn't expect the video to be this long the moment I saw it.
I actually used to like Jynx when it came out and it seemed to fit kinda nicely with Magmar and Electabuzz (all three used red, yellow and black in different ratios). but then there was the "drama" and "changes" and I slowly stopped caring for it. (that same "drama" is what is stopping it from getting its item trade evo). What nintendo needs to do is :
1) Make a new pure ice type human shape pokemon that replaces Nicki Minaj's cold older sister.
2) Give it the same specifications as the Magmar/Electabuzz lines (evolve at lv 30 + item trade evo+ 75% male ratio)
3) Give the new line some "bulk" (high HP and/or Defense and/or Special Defense)
4) Allow the pokemon w/ baby forms to not have to be hatched as babies (eg: Roselia and Mr.Mime) but give the baby forms moves that the basic forms cannot learn (eg: Pichu learns Sweet Kiss and Nasty Plot but Pikachu cannot)
5) Properly showcase the dichotomy of the new Ice line with Magmar and Electabuzz. (one is available in both games while the other two are version exclusives. And cycle through them from time to time [but have all three available in final/some versions])
6) Make the new Ice line compatible w/ Jynx (like breeding for moves that Jynx otherwise cannot get)
7) Fix the sleep mechanic, Put Dark Void back to 80 accuracy, Hypnosis back to 70 accuracy ;
and make a new sleep inducing Ice Move
8) Put Ice Beam & Blizzard (and any corresponding moves) back to 95 Damage and 120 Damage respectively
9) Make Ice resistant to _fairy_ and also make _fairy_ weak to Dark and Ghost

Jynx was a lot better at creating controversy than it was in the actual games.

My Ra I do love me some Jynx, shes just the best Pokemon hoofs down. She looks the best, has the best types in the game, and hits like a bucking truck man. Top of all that she likes to dance, just a wonderful Pokemon all around.

It does kinda suck that Jynx is the only one of the elemental punch trio to not get a evolution.
It's actually pretty decent with a Choice Scarf, and provided the opponent doesn't have anything that outspeeds it, it's pretty terrifying with Choice Specs.

We can still get more gen1 Pokemon, there are others that haven't been covered yet; they just aren't OU that generation and probably aren't going to be the most interesting things in the world to look at in the competitive meta, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of seeing more of them in future videos.

@@librathebeautifulwarmonk1283because burn is an amazing status to spread. cripples all physical sweepers. Those 30% burn chance on scald is the sole reason why everyone is using it. Will-o-wisp would be broken.
Burn is really a good status to give your opponent as it renders their physical attacker useless so that could be the reason for its accuracy.
It's accuracy is low cuz burn is one of the best status to give next to freezing
