My neighbor had a sheep that disappeared, we couldn't find her, and finally, a couple of years later, she joined the heard again, with her wool full of twigs, etc. She must have found a cool place to lay under trees in the summer, by the river.; Of course we had her shed right away, luckily it was in spring when she returned, but when they grow their wool after shearing, it is usually enough to get them through a cold winter even though it may not be more than a couple of inches long, it insulates well. I raised sheep for 15+ years, they are incredible animals, most people don't realize that, they make great pets. I had a mother ewe whose newborn lamb was taken by a coyote, I heard her calling for it all night. The next day, I took a "bummer" that I was bottling, and rubbed it all over her, milked her and gave it her milk, and she accepted it as her baby. (A bummer is the lamb of a mother who has had 3 lambs -- she only has two teats so sometimes the 3rd one must be bottle fed. Sometimes she can raise 3 but usually you have to become "mama" for the little lamb. I used to love to bottle one, it would follow me around and thought I was its mama. They quickly learn where their milk comes from and come running when they see you with the bottle! It's a chore, because they must be fed about every 2 or 3 hours, but it's a joyful chore! I would hold the little lamb in my arms like a baby to feed it, then it would fall asleep in my arms. So cute!
They do make great pets for real! When I was a kid I grew up in a village and we keept animals for a living for milk and meat! I decided that one sheep was my pet and threw the biggest tantrums for my sheep not to be touched or milked ! My family let me have it! She was such a good animal, I used to put make up on her and dress her up and she was like a dog, following me everywhere! At some point she became pregnant with a race of sheep that was bigger than her And she couldn’t deliver her babies, we took and vet that got them out but she still didn’t make it! Oh how much I cried for her! My grandma told me in the morning “sorry, she didn’t make it “ they had checked her and she had no sings of life! She was on the floor with her back facing the dor! I went and hugged her and spoke the most loving word(literally to this day I have no experienced or sufferd a loss more than hers) I left for school then tha morning, but just when I was about to leave I decided to enter in her room place again and found that she had turned her head and neck to the dor when I left! It touched me profoundly Now I’m 30 years old, is weird but I never forget her!

Against cold its all the non moving air in the wool that insulate,, Against heat its all the non moving air+ if just a drop of sweat enter the wool near the body,, the wool transport the wetness outwards, and as it evaporates near the outside it have a good cooling effect.. thats why wool is so popular as clothes,, although i as young hated the itching wool sweaters my mother put on me in the winter.. hehe.. but as a grownup fisherman i love my wool socks-glowes-sweaters

One of our Rhode Island Red Hens escaped, and I would sometimes see it crossing the roads around the property or in the woods and I'd try to catch her and bring her back but she always got away. The chicken survived 2 whole years through 2 winters without getting killed or eaten by wolves or coyotes. She finally came back and we got her in the pen and she died not long after by a fox that broke into the pen 😭😪

There is nothing wrong with sheering a sheep...but what you are missing is how these sheep are treated in the industry...I’m not talking about a small farm, I’m talking about suppliers who sell to the major retail stores. They’re not taking their time and being careful...they literally throw the sheep to the ground, pin them down to the ground by their heads and necks, very rough. The sheep are often injured and cut. It is simply not right...it is not a business of gentleness or compassion..just about getting the job done as quickly as possible with no regard for who they are sheering and how they are treating them. Imagine if you were the sheep being beat up for a haircut, I doubt you’d like that very much.

LOS CAMPADRES VARRIO 3 HAWTHORNE L.A First of all, I am not a young woman. I use a walker as my parents didn't bother to have my hip dysplasia fixed when I was a baby. They were college educated and had money but my brother and I were horribly neglected. Foster homes, molestation, so much of a nightmare I choose not to share with such a judgmental person.
They finally bought a trailer with no running water smack in the middle of nowhere to avoid scrutiny and the irony is my bipolar father was a protective service worker. Then they wasted money hobby farming by buying animals that were as neglected as my brother and I were.
I worked my way through college, became a nurse, and my grown children and I are close and they all are college educated and contributing to society.
Seeing the unsheered sheep reminded me of some painful memories that I normally do not dwell on because life is to short. So if I want to be truthful about my parents I will without some know it all trying to scold me, F you!
