@@djw8591 Future Farmers of America. It's an organisation in the US for young people to encourage their interest in livestock and to help them learn about good husbandry. They have show competitions, so the livestock are handled extensively to be groomed and trained to be led about, exposed to new environments, lots of strange humans, etc, which usually means that sheep end up super easy for shearers to handle.

Great job! That really looked like a workout! Poor girl! About a decade ago, three sheep were in a field that I drove by every day for 5 years. I never saw them shorn, they were out in all kinds of weather here in Nebraska. I called the sheriff's office to complain about the sheep every 6 months, but nothing was done. Their fleece was dragging on the ground, they could barely move, and you could barely see their legs! I took a video of them when they got close to the road fence one morning. I took that video to the Humane Society in the next county and the sheriff's office there, and FINALLY some action was taken. The next week they were gone. I always wondered how much fleece came off of them. Two years later I finally heard why they were in this condition, the old man who had them passed on and the living family members just abandoned them. I am glad this girl is going to see a second life somewhere.

Wow what a great job you did shearing her! It’s amazing that you were able to avoid cutting into wrinkles. It’s so difficult to get a person to shear just a 4H or FFA flock. There’s no money in it. I remember shearing the best I could with hand shears some years. The poor sheep looked like ridiculous, but they didn’t suffer in the summer heat. I also remember helpful octogenarian farmers shearing our hobby flock and accidentally cropping ears, etc. Thanks for taking such care and demonstrating great professionalism.

As always that must feel so great getting all that off!
Ever since i learned about it i have found it amazing that sheep have natural oils that help with nicks and cuts, almost like someone or something created them for textile production.
Of course I'm well aware that the several thousand years of selective breeding and evolution could theoretically have much the same result, obviously the sheep whos oils help heal the nicks will be healthier then one that doesn't and a few thousand generations of that, hard to say.
