I'm a cancer patient as well. Not as bad off as Ben, but still quite scary. I admire his tenacity, bravery, and willingness to move forward inspite of his unfortunate outcome. I wish I could have half of his courage. I would have loved to ask him how he went out there and performed and not let his diagnosis overtake him. I struggle with moving forward. Most people would crawl in a hole. I have such a great love and respect for Ben not just for his incredible talent, but for the kind, gracious, humble, loving, brave human that he was. I hope for his sake and for the rest of us there is truly something after this life. I hope Ben is still able to do what he loved in heaven. ❤

Ben's strong performance is stunning given his failing health. He gave his all to the end and we will love him forever just as you can see his band mates do. There will never be another like Benjamin Orr. RIP
Thank you so much for sharing this! I pretty much cried my eyes out seeing Ben sing ‘Drive’. God bless his soul. On a brighter note, this band seriously kicked ass! Wow, they were so good. It tears at my heart strings though. I’ve always loved Benjamin Orr. To see this knowing he passed away 3 months later is hard but he got out there and rocked it anyway, a big middle finger to cancer! It’s taken away so many people I love, including my father… The world and music just isn’t the same without Ben in it. I hope everyone else from the band is doing ok 23 years later. 🌹
Replying to LousFool, There is a posting on YT where someone paying his respects to Ben, walked behind the headstones. There is a plaque on his half brother Charles that commemorates his military service in WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Example...I served a term in the Navy under Ronald Reagan, am retired peace officer. I don't care for any of that to be on my marker. My accomplishments would be that I was the best father and husband I could be. That I taught my children right from wrong, made sure they were safe and secure in our home, and knew that I was here every day of their lives, until it was my time to go. I only recently learned that Benjamin was a veteran. Reading the book Let's Go. I've only started, but if you love Benjamin Orr (of course you do), your heart will break even more when you find out how many people spoke so highly of this man ever since he was a child, I'm devastated all over again😢🌹🙏🎤🇺🇸
Well, this is incredible watching beautiful Benjamin doing what he loved. And still sounding great. The courage that took for him to be on that stage is magnificent. When they started playing DRIVE, I lost it. Ben, you are so loved and missed. I just hope somehow, you know that.

I was the M.E. on Ben and Big People's last show in late August of 2000 at Alaska State Fair. Things I remember most are Bens courage (he had an O2 bottle on stage), the ferocity and power of Liberty Devitos drums, and complete professionalism of the band. Great bunch of guys, great band. Also remember how frail Ben, was, but when he sang, it still sounded like the Carrs. What a courageous man. Doing what he loved right up to the end.
Thank you for sharing this! You can tell he was not well but still sounds incredible! I cannot help but think if he was not doing these shows after his diagnosis he would have been gone possibly sooner. I hope he knows how much he is still missed.
I love Derek's guitar solo in Drive! It adds character to an already beautiful song. Ben's performance is heroic yet characteristically humble -- what we love and appreciate about him to this day!
So sad to watch. He had lost a lot of punch in his voice at this point. Much respect for him and his drive to move forward even with cancer hanging over his head. I'm dealing with bladder cancer but it is manageable at this point. If it does get out of hand in the future I hope I can be as strong as Ben.

Hello Donna remember how I told you I was at the half shell when they did the Guinness World Book of Records of most guitars playing one song at one time on the Charles River? Ben was there playing the drums, I don't know did I tell you that I actually asked him if I could have the drumsticks when he was done with them? I got to say hello to him when he walked by to go up on stage it was only a couple feet away from the edge of the stage and it wasn't that many people there near the stairs going up to the stage. If I remember correctly we found me standing in that spot on the video. He said hello but he didn't say anything about the sticks he was busy using them and I was busy walking around meeting people and stuf while everything was going on and I never thought to go back over there to see if I could get the sticks from him,😎 but it's cool that I got to say hello to him.😀 God bless you Ben and God bless you Donna as well, I think I told you I've been a drummer since I was 14 and I may have mentioned that I started teaching myself to play guitar when I was 59 like 5 years ago and I'm doing pretty good, I can do eruption you know the tapping stuff that Eddie Van Halen does learned a bunch of other stuff right now I'm working on Old Man Down the Road by Dan Fogerty, I was learning guitar when I was a kid as well as drums, but I never stuck with it and I should have. but I'm making great progress and I'm enjoying myself I'm not going to stop I'll be doing it till the day I go to meet Ben in heaven.😊 thank you again for this great video and happy New Year I hope things get better and this craziness stops.

I love seeing all this history someone needs to add the big people to Wikipedia I’m surprised there isn’t any information out there this is a great example of a super group. I’ve been trying to find connections with super groups and make playlists. Example anything Bob Dylan, Tom petty, Jeff Lynn, Roy Orbison, George Harrison. I need to do one for the big people now.
Oh my, this is so difficult to watch. It reminds me of the last video Freddie Mercury did for These Are The Days of Our Lives, a chance to say good-bye. It appears professionally video taped so Ben would have agreed to it, what a testament to his love of performing for his fans. I'm not familiar with their performance schedule that summer, I've read that he waved off Drive at his final show, would this possibly be his last time singing Drive?
😂wow, these guys are rockin the house! Definitely bittersweet to see Ben Orr up there.😢especially sad to see him constantly pulling his pants up because he's so thin from the advanced stage of his pancreatic cancer.
If I ever get to time travel, I will see every tour of The Cars. I think if I warn Ben in time, he might survive and beat the cancer! Then no matter what kept The Cars from breaking up, Ben would be alive for a future reunion of The Cars. Don’t laugh at this as time travel will be available soon. 2027 is what I heard will be the beginning of time traveling.
Bye, Bye Love was fantastic but I did miss the cute ending that he and Elliot always did together. Ben looked like a runway model, always dressed to the nines! 🎉 What courage he showed; an absolute inspiration. Every song he sang was wonderful. 🤛🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I recognize how chemo kills cancer patients. It ravishes the healthy cells along with the cancer cells, but the cancer cells come back bigger and stronger than ever. I lost a dear husband to the chemo when it caused his lungs to fill with pneumonia. RIP Ben Orr… 🕯️♥️

I love seeing all this history someone needs to add the big people to Wikipedia I’m surprised there isn’t any information out there this is a great example of a super group. I’ve been trying to find connections with super groups and make playlists. Example anything Bob Dylan, Tom petty, Jeff Lynn, Roy Orbison, George Harrison. I need to do one for the big people now.
Oh my, this is so difficult to watch. It reminds me of the last video Freddie Mercury did for These Are The Days of Our Lives, a chance to say good-bye. It appears professionally video taped so Ben would have agreed to it, what a testament to his love of performing for his fans.
I'm not familiar with their performance schedule that summer, I've read that he waved off Drive at his final show, would this possibly be his last time singing Drive?

If I ever get to time travel, I will see every tour of The Cars. I think if I warn Ben in time, he might survive and beat the cancer! Then no matter what kept The Cars from breaking up, Ben would be alive for a future reunion of The Cars. Don’t laugh at this as time travel will be available soon. 2027 is what I heard will be the beginning of time traveling.

😂regarding Ben Orr's condition, he died a few months after this concert, but he didn't die of pancreatic cancer, he died from the chemo. 😢
I don't think Ben did chemo. He died of the cancer.
Bye, Bye Love was fantastic but I did miss the cute ending that he and Elliot always did together. Ben looked like a runway model, always dressed to the nines! 🎉 What courage he showed; an absolute inspiration. Every song he sang was wonderful. 🤛🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I recognize how chemo kills cancer patients. It ravishes the healthy cells along with the cancer cells, but the cancer cells come back bigger and stronger than ever. I lost a dear husband to the chemo when it caused his lungs to fill with pneumonia. RIP Ben Orr… 🕯️♥️
