I was working backstage security in Concord, California back in 04, I believe. Boston was playing. I didn't know anything about them, other than recognizing some of their hits. Before the concert, a roadie was standing backstage and struck up a conversation with me. This guy was super nice and engaging and immediately I liked him. And I am hard to please with first impressions, but this guy was so down to earth and disarming. We talked about all kinds of things. Then suddenly a door opens and there is a bunch of fans with VIP passes and things to sign, including one with a stratocaster. He kindly excused himself to me and began engaging the fans. I suddenly realized that he was not a roadie, but was actually in the band. Later, I found out he was the lead singer, Brad Delp. I've met a lot of performers over the years and many were really nice, including Peter Frampton, the Nelson twins, Gene Simmons, Billy Joe Armstrong (from somewhere else) and so on. The worst was one of the members of Fleetwood Mac - not the drummer or guitarist...I can't remember his name or what he played, but he was a total prick. But Brad Delp was without a doubt the nicest, most down to Earth celebrity I have ever met. I had zero clue who he was until after that encounter and he never betrayed any sort of superiority or entitlement in the slightest. He was definitely my favorite celebrity encounter by far.
That was a great story!! It's awesome when the really special guys don't come across too cocky. They stand out because it seems so rare, unfortunately. Awesome experience brother.
@@redbrown7355 I thought John Entwistle from The Who (my god of bass guitar!) was nervous and shy, yet still saw it as important to meet the fans after the show in his dressing room and thank us for making his amazing life possible. Music stars really do owe it to their fans, and I thought it was great to see this true god of rock acknowledging that and living it out, despite being so shy and nervous. (I've heard he was always that way in front of audiences and around fans, but he worked through it.)
When the Boston debut came out, I was ten. I had a horrible speech impediment and an abusive step father. Life was lonely and bleak. Then I heard them on the radio for the first time it was if my soul filled up that their was beauty and greatness somewhere in the universe, and maybe someday I might find my own. Boston = Hope and Goodness for me. Bless them!
Rick Beato does a great breakdown of this song, separating out all the tracks so you can clearly hear the voice merge into the guitar. BTW...as well as everything else Adam mentions, Tom invented a bunch of electronic devices to modify the sound from guitars and other devices to achieve exactly what he wanted to hear. There' also a video where someone (was it Rick?) visits the basement where Tom recorded all the instrument tracks (except drums - he could play those!). He suddenly had to put an actual band together when he went to the record company!
I'm a 59-year young Black man who didn't grow up listening to this music in St. Louis MO, although it was available, I was an R&B/Soul guy. It was not until I left at 18 to join the USAF, had I heard this music. And my first introduction to the genre was Steve Perry and Journey. I thought he was amazing and then I heard Brad Delp and Boston and no one touches Brad Delp hands down.
There's good reasons to be an R&B/Soul guy, but glad you were able to enjoy this kind of rock too. Lots of crazy male rock vocalists hitting notes in the 60s and 70s, and a handful in the 80s (Sammy Hagar and others)
The only person I've ever heard even touch Delps vocals on More Than A feeling is Dan Vasc, a Brazilian singer who has a channel here on TH-cam. His range is bonkers! He can sing anything... opera, musical theater, ballads, classic rock, pop, soft rock and his absolute favorite genre, metal. I'm a huge music fan and I don't know if I could pick one genre or one singer, but Dan is becoming one of my top 5 for sure.
Boston is one of my favorite bands and Brad Delp is my favorite male rock vocalist. "More Than a Feeling" is his most popular song, but my personal favorite song is "A Man I'll Never Be". Rest In Peace to a great man.

“More Than A Feeling” is the epitome of 70’s rock. No human male should be able to sing that high. I don’t think we’ll see another like him. RIP Brad, you’ll never be forgotten.
But how many women and girls can do it? If the fundamental job is hitting a high E, it seems that most of the people who can do that are women and girls, and I suppose unless portraying a lesbian they might change the name to any 3 syllable boys name, otherwise there is no problem with hearing women and girls sing this song.
It's so true!!! My 10 yr olds fav songs are More Than a Feeling and Foreplay/Longtime. My dad played them for me and I fell in love with Boston and now passing that gift onto my kids!
Delp is CRIMINALLY underrated. Nobody can reproduce his performance on this song. "More Than a Feeling" is the very song that led me to learn how to play a 12 string! The vocals, the 12 string sparkle, the electrics, the whole arrangement...not much new music today, if anything at all, comes close to these classics.
When my son was like 8 (2011) he wanted a guitar. An electric guitar. More than a Feeling was the first song he taught himself. Then he wanted drums and his Santa list he wanted a drum set "just like the drummer in Boston..."

I can understand if you're too young to remember the earth-shaking impact the Boston album and Brad's voice had when it was released, but don't mistake your lack of appreciation for everyone else having that same lack of appreciation, not even when Adam uses the same unfortunate description. He's wrong. Brad and his voice were legendary, absolutely legendary when he was active with Boston. I can't believe Adam compares him with Steve Perry. Either he still doesn't appreciate Brad or I'm missing something in Steve Perry's voice. If some day I realize Steve Perry's singing was incredible beyond my previous understanding, that's not Steve Perry being underrated. That's just me coming late to the party. It's not about him. It's about me. Steve Perry is obviously viewed by vast numbers of fans and critics alike as being a phenomenal singer. I just don't hear it. That's me. Look at the record. When Brad Delp's vocals are written about, it's always in the context of his unique gifts, how he was capable of expression that no one could ever match. I have never heard otherwise from anyone. Yep, I wish we'd get back to that experimental phase where we try new patterns and the like. When you have only 1 or 2 people writing all the pop songs in the world, everything is bound to sound the same. Music is supposed to be just as individual as the people, so copy pasting just goes against the very soul of the craft.
@@beenaplumber8379 I was OK with Steve Perry, he had some pipes, but i was surprised Robert Plant was in there as i never considered him an amazing vocalist with crazy range (though i love led zep). I believe a much better comparison for More than a Feeling would have been Carry on Wayward Son, and honestly i am torn which one hits me harder.
This band had a heart of gold. After their "Third Stage" concert, at Alpine Valley, WI, they invited everyone in wheelchairs, including my wife, to join them for the backstage party. For about 2 hours, each member of the group mingled around the room, spending time talking to every person. I remember Brad Delp being concerned that his voice being affected by his allergies. He sounded great! That night is one I will NEVER forget!

I met Brad twice. Once during a Beatlejuice concert at some restaurant during a snowstorm. My brother and I were among just a handful of people who showed up. During a set break, Brad approached us and struck up a conversation. I was absolutely awestruck. He was such nice guy. Another time he showed up at the Subaru dealership I was working at. Again, he was approachable and totally open to conversation. A truly special human being Brad was.

I saw Boston the first 2 X they played The Providence Civic Center in the 70's !!! Brad was beyond good he was a GREAT singer /frontman !!! What a talent 👏!!!! So badly missed !!! They were better live than the albums !!!!
Your story of your son is touching. We older folks have a duty, yes, a duty, to expose the younger generations to the great music of the last 60 years. I did it with my sons, one of whom is also on the spectrum. One day when they were in their mid-teens they were driving with their mom. She was scanning through radio stations when they both yelled out, "Go back, that was Tom Petty!" When she told me, my first thought was, "At least I've done one great thing for my boys."
I am an MRI tech and frequently play music for the patients. This is the number one 70's group requested in my 20 years. I had a CD with '70's classic rock' and played it for over 10 years till it fell apart. Now we do streaming music. I still play this music way more than anything else. Everyone loves their music.

Yes! I was in junior high when this came out, got the album - of course. It was on radio all the time. Since then I've heard it a million times but you're right. Every time is just as heavenly as the first time.
I’m 71 now and Boston was the soundtrack of my teens. You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing this song. It just takes me back to a warm summers night at Salisbury beach with my girlfriend.
I have long held that Brad Delp is the GOAT because of this song and Man I’ll Never Be. I sang in a lot of cover bands and it’s not too hard to fake Robert Plant, and with a lot of vocal training can cover most Freddie songs(good luck with The Prophet). It’s a lot harder to fake Steve Perry because of how rich his voice is combined with his range. Michael Sweet, Dennis DeYoung and Mickey Thomas have incredibly trained voices, like the buffest voices in the vocal gym. But Brad Delp is next level. I have never heard a male voice that clean, high, smooth and unforced at the same time. When I saw Boston in 87 and Brad Delp held that last note where the song fades until the end of the song it struck me that i may never see a live vocal performance that great again in my life. Nearly 40 years later, nothing has touched it.
Thank you for giving Brad Delp some recognition the he deserves! I’ve felt he was under appreciated for years! His vocal power at all levels is insane! I was so devastated when he passed but his singing will live on in my heart. Every new piece of audio equipment I’ve ever purchased- including car stereos- More than a feeling is the first cassette, then CD, then MP3 song I have ever played! I’m pushing 54 now, so that’s a lot of “Feeling!’”

I started as a 16-year old fan in 1978 who soon developed a friendship with Brad that lasted until he died. He was so kind to me and my family over the years. I miss him terribly, but am grateful for how much of himself he gave to me (and others). RIP.
I was fortunate enough to play with Brad quite a few times. Incredible singer and he was always so down to Earth. You couldn’t find a nicer “rock star”.
One thing that makes Delp my pick was not only his range but how buttery smooth his voice was. I rarely think of a rock singers voice as relaxing, but his was, one of a kind.

One of my earliest and favorite memories of a Boston song was when I was about 7 years old in 1977. My brother had a GTO and had to watch me. He strapped me in the front seat and we went to go fishing. I remember flying down the highway as Foreplay came on the radio. My brother picked up more speed. I was having a ball. We were driving up a hill as Foreplay was ending and broke into It’s been such a long as we crested the hill and saw the bay in all its splendor. Wide open skies, the bay, it was an awesome view. At the time I did not know we were listening to Boston or what the songs were. I heard the song a few years later as I was really getting into music and that memory came back to me. I still get that memory and feeling of awe to this day.

I was thirteen years old. Amanda was just getting on the radio. Out of that, Third Stage became a huge listening experience for me for years to come. However, soon after buying Third Stage in 1986, I wondered if Boston had other albums. To my surprise, the debut album and Don't Look Back had an immediate impact. To this day, despite thousands of listens over four decades, my impression of More Than A Feeling remains the same. This song continues to be my #1 classic rock song of all-time. Without question, Brad Delp is definitely the G.O.A.T. among rock vocalists. RIP Brad.
I would add that the whole album is vocally, musically and any other category one of greatest albums of ALL Time ever. Each song is timeless and magical excellence forever.

I was 10 when Amanda hit #1, it was truly the first time I heard beauty in music. Then my older siblings introduced me to the debut and DLB, and I was instantly a fan for life.
I met Brad Delp back in 2006 at Albany inter. airport. We had a brief conversation as I checked him in(big Bostonfan). He was upset at the service at this airport leading up to his interaction with me. He was explaining to me how bad the service was compared to other airports. I assured him that from this point on the service would be excellent as I handed him his boarding pass. He thanked me and proceeded to his gate. A short time later his assistant came up to me and gave me one of Brads autographed guitar picks and said Brad wanted to thank you for the prompt service and your kind words. It was about a year later when the legend would pass. Im glad I treated him with respect and kindness and didnt get upset and be rude as some customer service reps would when he was voicing his displeasure with the service. I would have truly regretted it. Thank you for the gift of amazing music. Wherever you are "cool the engines" my friend.
My last memory of Brad was in a Howard Johnson, I stopped to get breakfast on the way home from clubbing..so it was 3-4:00 am...I was with a friend who saw him and said "look at the hippie" I knew it was Brad and called him over.. my friend almost crapped his pants when he found out who he was.. Brad stayed and talked, ate with us and paid the bill.. He was such a nice guy..I'm truly thankful to have that memory of such a legend..
Absolutely the best rock vocal ever! No one can touch his range and pure sonic sunshine!!! Im 60 and this song has been with me and lifted me since 1976. It was always one of the first recordings I got. Vinyl, 8-track, cassette, cd and now digital stream. I was fortunate to be young and love it when it was new. I was a huge Queen fan back in the '70s, and as great as Freddie was, no one can touch Brad's range and sonic perfection displayed here. Heartbreaking that such a gifted artist, who gave so much joy, took his own life because of depression.

All over TH-cam, you can find vocal coaches and other professional singers recording "First reaction" videos to various rock classics, allowing us to observe them as they listen to the best songs of the modern rock era for the very first time. Almost all of them have sat back to analyse Boston's "More Than A Feeling". In every case, the shock and bewilderment on their faces tell the story, particularly when Brad Delp hits those nigh-impossible notes for ludicrously long times with no warbling of the pitch nor loss of power. The best and most pure reaction I had ever seen was from "The Charismatic Voice" host, Elizabeth Zharoff. She is a trained opera singer who has only recently begun listening to modern music. The look of pure joy in her face as she hears the sounds produced by Delp's voice is priceless. She's normally extremely eloquent and specific in her breakdowns, but after hearing the first 30 seconds or so, she paused the song and was reduced to "Whoa! What? Uhhhh...." before she collected herself and regained the ability to speak coherently. I urge everyone to check it out
You're absolutely right. You can just see the joy in her face as the song progresses. It makes my heart happy to know that the younger generation is discovering what we've already known. This era of rock and roll is hands down the best there will ever be.

While I've always loved performances by Dio, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin and many others, she points out little subtleties that my ear glossed over since my high school days and gave me a whole new reason to listen to them some more

Brad Delp is absolutely in my top 5 male vocalists if not higher. The sheer range and tone of his voice was magic. I've listened and played along to all the Boston albums countless times. He is tragically unappreciated.

Way back in high school, Boston was one of the very first rock concerts I attended. Every song on their first two albums was great! And Brad Delp's voice was INCOMPARABLE. They set the bar very high for every group I saw after that. The eight years that passed waiting for their third album felt like an eternity. I still love their music just as much today.
There is no song that I have listened more to than More Than a Feeling. It never gets old, it will never get old. I agree that this is the greatest rock and roll vocal of all time. What a gift God blessed Brad Delp with. May he rest in peace.

Man, I choked up in the end there. Brad and Boston are the soundtracks of my life. Thank you for the wonderful tribute to the man called “Golden Voice.” Mom passed away in 2006 and Brad in 2007. My world had crumbled in a one year time span. Cranked up Boston throughout the years and the healing began. Thank you to the Band called Boston and thank you for this tribute. 🥳 Happy New Year!

Boston and foreigner are the two biggest injustice to me for the R&RHOF. The fact that Guns and Roses are in but not Boston blows my mind. Both bands basically had the same career. Both had massive first albums. To many, their second albums were disappointments. However, don't look back is great, whereas Lies isn't very good. Then both had very good successful third albums. Third Stage was the first cd to sell 1 million copies. There are no excuses for Boston to not be in.
Boston was my second stadium/arena concert in Oct '87 in Baton Rouge. In September, Heart was my first. In November, U2 was my third. That was a good year. . .

I’m 55 now. I didn’t hear this album until probably 1980, but it became and still is my favorite album of all time and Boston is my favorite band. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spun the record, played the cassette, listened to the CD and now streamed this music. I’m proud to say my kids love and appreciate Boston. Music at a truly different level of greatness in its creation. None of the music would be the same without Brad Delp. Sad he is not with us today. RIP and thanks for the joy this music still gives.
Around 1984 I had gotten a used, tan, Chevy Chevette from my parents for my birthday. I was in 12th grade. A stereo installer for HiFi Buys set me up with a stereo and speakers for my car, free of charge (Thanks Pete!). It absolutely cranked! In fact, some guy with a fancy Porsche was there waiting to get his car stereo install finished up and was literally pissed that my system sounded so good, when he probably spent a grand on his (a lot back then). Anyway, I got my friend Tony to sit in the car with me while I played "More Than A Feeling". There's no doubt his ears were ringing for 3 days afterwards because I absolutely blasted the song! And I remember reaching to turn it up even more when it got to the crescendo of Delp's voice and the guitar lick. Man, what a memory! Glorious, glorious song and time.
Not only the studio version was gold, but the live version of this song really shows how Brad took the challenge and totally killed it singing those high notes in a stadium full of people.
Delp is/was one of, if not the best rock vocalist. You did him justice. There are so many awesome rock songs in existence that I love and listen to often. Eventually I get a bit burned out by most, but More Than A Feeling is one I have never gotten tired of listening to since it came out and never will. For me, it IS the GOAT. Period.
Before I even started the video, I thought I sure hope he’s talking about Brad Delp! Those repeated high notes in More Than a Feelin’ are almost super human! And the fact those Boston boys recorded that album in Tom’s basement is so appropriate for their grassroots start. Incredible work.
My parents introduced me to Boston when I was a teenager back in the 90s. Fell in love with the band, and that was a big part of the reason I listened to more classic rock to begin with. Brad Delp definitely deserves more credit for what he gave to the world with his voice. What an absolute pleasure he is to listen to.

Brad Delp used to tour New England with a cover band called Beatlejuice. They were fantastic, but I'll never forget that he struck up a conversation with my father and sister, remembered them the next time we saw them, and she introduced me like they were old friends. "This is my brother-he sings and plays the Beatles too...this is Brad Delp, you know, from Boston???" Yeah...I've heard of him, yeah...nice to meet you, Mr. Delp... And my father always called him "a really nice guy." Friggin' music legend!
That intro fading in before "I looked out this morning" is like waking up and seeing the sunshine through your window. I brings me back to a simpler time. Everything about the song is just perfect.
Boston's debut album was released while I was in college and I remember hearing "More Than a Feeling" on the radio. I was blown away by the song and quickly tracked down the album at the record store. Since then, Boston has always been on my playlists. IMO, Brad Delp is the greatest rock singer with "More Than a Feeling" being his masterpiece. Thanks for a wonderful tribute to the GOAT.
God I miss 70’s album oriented rock. I was a freshman in high school when Boston’s first album came out. It was fantastically pure, powerful and confident all mixed together. I remember a disclaimer sticker on the plastic wrapping on the album saying basically that if I didn’t like it, I could get my money back. I’ve never heard of or seen something like that on any other album since. I still have that album. Mr. Delp’s vocals will always be right up there with the best of them.
I still remember the first time I heard this song. My buddy had bought the album a couple weeks after its release and when he dropped the needle, we were transfixed. When Brad soared up to that high note (E6?) we could not believe our ears. He instantly became my favorite rock singer of all time.
Thank you so much for giving Brad his due. I saw Boston in Phoenix on the Third Stage tour, and he blew me away. Born in 1968, I grew up with all of the singers that you mentioned, and I love them all. Brad deserves to stand on that stage. I believe the others would have been intimidated.
I was 17 when this came out, I bought the 8-track for my car, later the cassette, then the album and finally the CD. This is the greatest rock debut album ever, period. Every song is a hit, I never get tired of listening to it. Brad Delp was one of a kind, never to be replaced, one of the best if not the best rock singer of all time.
I heard that Scholz timed the vibrato on the guitar, the keyboards with Brad's voice and backing vocals so they seamlessly matched as voices came in and went out. Heaven
I was a teenage guitar player when this album exploded on Bay Area AOR stations. The sound & production was something we never heard before. Tom Sholtz - genius. They got so big, so fast that Journey cancelled their headline gig at Winterland SF with Boston opening. Boston played headline and sold out Winterland. After they played the whole album, the crowd wanted an encore, they had no more materiel so played More Than Feeling again! They rocked Winterland like veterans. Of course I was there. I was at this same concert. It was so cool when he said they ran out of material and do we mind if we play this song again. The crowd went wild when they started playing More than a Feeling again!! Sure miss Winterland - great concerts great memories.

OMG, what a great tribute to the BEST voice in rock music! The first time I heard this song it was almost a religious experience. Brad's voice hit notes I did not think humans could hit and did so with passion and soul. In terms of power and passion, I believe Brad Delp is the GOAT for rock. I could never understand how a talent like that could be so passed over and unrecognized. I am glad to see some recognition at last! ! still mourn his passing, but am ever so grateful for those awesome moments he gave us!

One detail about this Boston song that you didn't cover: At that high note point, Brad is also singing harmony with himself in the background. The background note is EVEN HIGHER! I believe it's a fifth higher. That is what is the most amazing.
There's a work friend of mine, we're 25 years apart but just clicked. She and some of her friends popped by for a quick visit, and once of the guys saw my Best of Boston album. Immediately, he asked if he could play More Than a Feeling. We must have replayed the song half a dozen times before letting the rest of the album play. They were 21, 22 at the time. Just a epic timeless song.
Brad Delp wasn’t flashy, and so you really have to appreciate vocals to recognize how unbelievably brilliant he was. Yep, he was phenomenal. As for his death, I think back to the first time hearing Kix's Don't Close Your Eyes, after the filming of the Midnight Dynamite video, and how the message that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem was so profound. Having lost people who were close to me to suicide, I wish more people could be helped and not end it all. I still would love for you to talk to Kix's Steve Whiteman (talk about another underrated voice) and cover that song especially. Its message is so critical when people get depressed and have thoughts of suicide. Thanks again for another great video!

From the first time I heard their debut album back in ‘76 (I was 11 years old) I was mesmerized by Brad’s voice. 47 years later nothing has changed. He’s still my favorite vocalist of all time. And I love all the singers the Professor of Rock compared him too. But Brad’s pure power and effortless range tops them all. And still does today. It was a dark day when I found out he took his own life back in 2007. But I’m thankful I got to see him and Boston perform at the Fabulous Forum back in 1985. Thank you Professor for another well done video of the greatest vocalist of rock!! RIP Brad

Geez...never thought of Brad Delp as the greatest singer but his voice, the Boston sound, Tom Scholz writing...all came together to produce wonderful albums. Brad's soaring voice along with the strings/guitar created an absolutely mesmerizing story. Such a sad ending for such a talented man. Every time someone says he's a sad solitary man..I worry. So it was with him. Thanks for reminding us of Brad Delp's wonderful voice in a wonderful song.

Kinda ashamed now to admit that while I can (still) sing the lyrics and tune to this show my, I didn’t know his name. Brad Delp.
I was working backstage security in Concord, California back in 04, I believe. Boston was playing. I didn't know anything about them, other than recognizing some of their hits. Before the concert, a roadie was standing backstage and struck up a conversation with me. This guy was super nice and engaging and immediately I liked him. And I am hard to please with first impressions, but this guy was so down to earth and disarming. We talked about all kinds of things. Then suddenly a door opens and there is a bunch of fans with VIP passes and things to sign, including one with a stratocaster. He kindly excused himself to me and began engaging the fans. I suddenly realized that he was not a roadie, but was actually in the band. Later, I found out he was the lead singer, Brad Delp.
I've met a lot of performers over the years and many were really nice, including Peter Frampton, the Nelson twins, Gene Simmons, Billy Joe Armstrong (from somewhere else) and so on. The worst was one of the members of Fleetwood Mac - not the drummer or guitarist...I can't remember his name or what he played, but he was a total prick. But Brad Delp was without a doubt the nicest, most down to Earth celebrity I have ever met. I had zero clue who he was until after that encounter and he never betrayed any sort of superiority or entitlement in the slightest. He was definitely my favorite celebrity encounter by far.

Music stars really do owe it to their fans, and I thought it was great to see this true god of rock acknowledging that and living it out, despite being so shy and nervous. (I've heard he was always that way in front of audiences and around fans, but he worked through it.)

When the Boston debut came out, I was ten. I had a horrible speech impediment and an abusive step father. Life was lonely and bleak. Then I heard them on the radio for the first time it was if my soul filled up that their was beauty and greatness somewhere in the universe, and maybe someday I might find my own. Boston = Hope and Goodness for me. Bless them!

Rick Beato does a great breakdown of this song, separating out all the tracks so you can clearly hear the voice merge into the guitar. BTW...as well as everything else Adam mentions, Tom invented a bunch of electronic devices to modify the sound from guitars and other devices to achieve exactly what he wanted to hear. There' also a video where someone (was it Rick?) visits the basement where Tom recorded all the instrument tracks (except drums - he could play those!). He suddenly had to put an actual band together when he went to the record company!

I'm a 59-year young Black man who didn't grow up listening to this music in St. Louis MO, although it was available, I was an R&B/Soul guy.
It was not until I left at 18 to join the USAF, had I heard this music. And my first introduction to the genre was Steve Perry and Journey. I thought he was amazing and then I heard Brad Delp and Boston and no one touches Brad Delp hands down.
There's good reasons to be an R&B/Soul guy, but glad you were able to enjoy this kind of rock too. Lots of crazy male rock vocalists hitting notes in the 60s and 70s, and a handful in the 80s (Sammy Hagar and others)

The only person I've ever heard even touch Delps vocals on More Than A feeling is Dan Vasc, a Brazilian singer who has a channel here on TH-cam. His range is bonkers! He can sing anything... opera, musical theater, ballads, classic rock, pop, soft rock and his absolute favorite genre, metal. I'm a huge music fan and I don't know if I could pick one genre or one singer, but Dan is becoming one of my top 5 for sure.

If the fundamental job is hitting a high E, it seems that most of the people who can do that are women and girls, and I suppose unless portraying a lesbian they might change the name to any 3 syllable boys name, otherwise there is no problem with hearing women and girls sing this song.

Delp is CRIMINALLY underrated. Nobody can reproduce his performance on this song. "More Than a Feeling" is the very song that led me to learn how to play a 12 string! The vocals, the 12 string sparkle, the electrics, the whole arrangement...not much new music today, if anything at all, comes close to these classics.
When my son was like 8 (2011) he wanted a guitar. An electric guitar. More than a Feeling was the first song he taught himself. Then he wanted drums and his Santa list he wanted a drum set "just like the drummer in Boston..."

Yep, I wish we'd get back to that experimental phase where we try new patterns and the like. When you have only 1 or 2 people writing all the pop songs in the world, everything is bound to sound the same. Music is supposed to be just as individual as the people, so copy pasting just goes against the very soul of the craft.

I believe a much better comparison for More than a Feeling would have been Carry on Wayward Son, and honestly i am torn which one hits me harder.
This band had a heart of gold. After their "Third Stage" concert, at Alpine Valley, WI, they invited everyone in wheelchairs, including my wife, to join them for the backstage party. For about 2 hours, each member of the group mingled around the room, spending time talking to every person. I remember Brad Delp being concerned that his voice being affected by his allergies. He sounded great! That night is one I will NEVER forget!

I remember the day it came out.
I met Brad twice. Once during a Beatlejuice concert at some restaurant during a snowstorm. My brother and I were among just a handful of people who showed up. During a set break, Brad approached us and struck up a conversation. I was absolutely awestruck. He was such nice guy. Another time he showed up at the Subaru dealership I was working at. Again, he was approachable and totally open to conversation. A truly special human being Brad was.

Your story of your son is touching. We older folks have a duty, yes, a duty, to expose the younger generations to the great music of the last 60 years. I did it with my sons, one of whom is also on the spectrum. One day when they were in their mid-teens they were driving with their mom. She was scanning through radio stations when they both yelled out, "Go back, that was Tom Petty!" When she told me, my first thought was, "At least I've done one great thing for my boys."
I am an MRI tech and frequently play music for the patients. This is the number one 70's group requested in my 20 years. I had a CD with '70's classic rock' and played it for over 10 years till it fell apart. Now we do streaming music. I still play this music way more than anything else. Everyone loves their music.

I’m 71 now and Boston was the soundtrack of my teens. You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing this song. It just takes me back to a warm summers night at Salisbury beach with my girlfriend.
I have long held that Brad Delp is the GOAT because of this song and Man I’ll Never Be. I sang in a lot of cover bands and it’s not too hard to fake Robert Plant, and with a lot of vocal training can cover most Freddie songs(good luck with The Prophet). It’s a lot harder to fake Steve Perry because of how rich his voice is combined with his range. Michael Sweet, Dennis DeYoung and Mickey Thomas have incredibly trained voices, like the buffest voices in the vocal gym. But Brad Delp is next level. I have never heard a male voice that clean, high, smooth and unforced at the same time. When I saw Boston in 87 and Brad Delp held that last note where the song fades until the end of the song it struck me that i may never see a live vocal performance that great again in my life. Nearly 40 years later, nothing has touched it.

I was so devastated when he passed but his singing will live on in my heart. I started as a 16-year old fan in 1978 who soon developed a friendship with Brad that lasted until he died. He was so kind to me and my family over the years. I miss him terribly, but am grateful for how much of himself he gave to me (and others). RIP.

One thing that makes Delp my pick was not only his range but how buttery smooth his voice was. I rarely think of a rock singers voice as relaxing, but his was, one of a kind.

One of my earliest and favorite memories of a Boston song was when I was about 7 years old in 1977. My brother had a GTO and had to watch me. He strapped me in the front seat and we went to go fishing. I remember flying down the highway as Foreplay came on the radio. My brother picked up more speed. I was having a ball. We were driving up a hill as Foreplay was ending and broke into It’s been such a long as we crested the hill and saw the bay in all its splendor. Wide open skies, the bay, it was an awesome view.
At the time I did not know we were listening to Boston or what the songs were. I heard the song a few years later as I was really getting into music and that memory came back to me. I still get that memory and feeling of awe to this day.
It’s such a great song. I love the part when Foreplay segues into Long Time.

I was thirteen years old. Amanda was just getting on the radio. Out of that, Third Stage became a huge listening experience for me for years to come. However, soon after buying Third Stage in 1986, I wondered if Boston had other albums. To my surprise, the debut album and Don't Look Back had an immediate impact. To this day, despite thousands of listens over four decades, my impression of More Than A Feeling remains the same. This song continues to be my #1 classic rock song of all-time. Without question, Brad Delp is definitely the G.O.A.T. among rock vocalists. RIP Brad.
_Third Stage_ was a grave disappointment to diehard fans of the first two albums.
I would add that the whole album is vocally, musically and any other category one of greatest albums of ALL Time ever. Each song is timeless and magical excellence forever.

Their peak was easily at their debut, and Third Stage pales in comparison but that one is still great!
I was 10 when Amanda hit #1, it was truly the first time I heard beauty in music. Then my older siblings introduced me to the debut and DLB, and I was instantly a fan for life.

I met Brad Delp back in 2006 at Albany inter. airport. We had a brief conversation as I checked him in(big Bostonfan). He was upset at the service at this airport leading up to his interaction with me. He was explaining to me how bad the service was compared to other airports. I assured him that from this point on the service would be excellent as I handed him his boarding pass. He thanked me and proceeded to his gate. A short time later his assistant came up to me and gave me one of Brads autographed guitar picks and said Brad wanted to thank you for the prompt service and your kind words. It was about a year later when the legend would pass. Im glad I treated him with respect and kindness and didnt get upset and be rude as some customer service reps would when he was voicing his displeasure with the service. I would have truly regretted it. Thank you for the gift of amazing music. Wherever you are "cool the engines" my friend.

I knew it was Brad and called him over.. my friend almost crapped his pants when he found out who he was..
Brad stayed and talked, ate with us and paid the bill..
He was such a nice guy..I'm truly thankful to have that memory of such a legend..

Absolutely the best rock vocal ever! No one can touch his range and pure sonic sunshine!!! Im 60 and this song has been with me and lifted me since 1976. It was always one of the first recordings I got. Vinyl, 8-track, cassette, cd and now digital stream.

I was a huge Queen fan back in the '70s, and as great as Freddie was, no one can touch Brad's range and sonic perfection displayed here. Heartbreaking that such a gifted artist, who gave so much joy, took his own life because of depression.

All over TH-cam, you can find vocal coaches and other professional singers recording "First reaction" videos to various rock classics, allowing us to observe them as they listen to the best songs of the modern rock era for the very first time. Almost all of them have sat back to analyse Boston's "More Than A Feeling". In every case, the shock and bewilderment on their faces tell the story, particularly when Brad Delp hits those nigh-impossible notes for ludicrously long times with no warbling of the pitch nor loss of power. The best and most pure reaction I had ever seen was from "The Charismatic Voice" host, Elizabeth Zharoff. She is a trained opera singer who has only recently begun listening to modern music. The look of pure joy in her face as she hears the sounds produced by Delp's voice is priceless. She's normally extremely eloquent and specific in her breakdowns, but after hearing the first 30 seconds or so, she paused the song and was reduced to "Whoa! What? Uhhhh...." before she collected herself and regained the ability to speak coherently. I urge everyone to check it out

Brad Delp is absolutely in my top 5 male vocalists if not higher. The sheer range and tone of his voice was magic. I've listened and played along to all the Boston albums countless times. He is tragically unappreciated.

The way Brad’s voice harmonizes with the sublime guitar tone is unmatched.
Way back in high school, Boston was one of the very first rock concerts I attended. Every song on their first two albums was great! And Brad Delp's voice was INCOMPARABLE. They set the bar very high for every group I saw after that. The eight years that passed waiting for their third album felt like an eternity. I still love their music just as much today.

Man, I choked up in the end there. Brad and Boston are the soundtracks of my life. Thank you for the wonderful tribute to the man called “Golden Voice.” Mom passed away in 2006 and Brad in 2007. My world had crumbled in a one year time span. Cranked up Boston throughout the years and the healing began. Thank you to the Band called Boston and thank you for this tribute. 🥳 Happy New Year!

Boston and foreigner are the two biggest injustice to me for the R&RHOF. The fact that Guns and Roses are in but not Boston blows my mind. Both bands basically had the same career. Both had massive first albums. To many, their second albums were disappointments. However, don't look back is great, whereas Lies isn't very good. Then both had very good successful third albums. Third Stage was the first cd to sell 1 million copies. There are no excuses for Boston to not be in.

Boston was my second stadium/arena concert in Oct '87 in Baton Rouge. In September, Heart was my first. In November, U2 was my third. That was a good year. . .

This is the tribute to Brad Delp I’ve been waiting for. Thank you Professor! He was the greatest rock vocalist in my opinion.
I’m 55 now. I didn’t hear this album until probably 1980, but it became and still is my favorite album of all time and Boston is my favorite band. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spun the record, played the cassette, listened to the CD and now streamed this music. I’m proud to say my kids love and appreciate Boston. Music at a truly different level of greatness in its creation. None of the music would be the same without Brad Delp. Sad he is not with us today. RIP and thanks for the joy this music still gives.

Around 1984 I had gotten a used, tan, Chevy Chevette from my parents for my birthday. I was in 12th grade. A stereo installer for HiFi Buys set me up with a stereo and speakers for my car, free of charge (Thanks Pete!). It absolutely cranked! In fact, some guy with a fancy Porsche was there waiting to get his car stereo install finished up and was literally pissed that my system sounded so good, when he probably spent a grand on his (a lot back then). Anyway, I got my friend Tony to sit in the car with me while I played "More Than A Feeling". There's no doubt his ears were ringing for 3 days afterwards because I absolutely blasted the song! And I remember reaching to turn it up even more when it got to the crescendo of Delp's voice and the guitar lick.

Not only the studio version was gold, but the live version of this song really shows how Brad took the challenge and totally killed it singing those high notes in a stadium full of people.
Delp is/was one of, if not the best rock vocalist. You did him justice. There are so many awesome rock songs in existence that I love and listen to often. Eventually I get a bit burned out by most, but More Than A Feeling is one I have never gotten tired of listening to since it came out and never will. For me, it IS the GOAT. Period.

My parents introduced me to Boston when I was a teenager back in the 90s. Fell in love with the band, and that was a big part of the reason I listened to more classic rock to begin with. Brad Delp definitely deserves more credit for what he gave to the world with his voice. What an absolute pleasure he is to listen to.

Brad Delp used to tour New England with a cover band called Beatlejuice. They were fantastic, but I'll never forget that he struck up a conversation with my father and sister, remembered them the next time we saw them, and she introduced me like they were old friends.
"This is my brother-he sings and plays the Beatles too...this is Brad Delp, you know, from Boston???"
Yeah...I've heard of him, yeah...nice to meet you, Mr. Delp...
And my father always called him "a really nice guy."

Boston's debut album was released while I was in college and I remember hearing "More Than a Feeling" on the radio. I was blown away by the song and quickly tracked down the album at the record store. Since then, Boston has always been on my playlists. IMO, Brad Delp is the greatest rock singer with "More Than a Feeling" being his masterpiece. Thanks for a wonderful tribute to the GOAT.
God I miss 70’s album oriented rock. I was a freshman in high school when Boston’s first album came out. It was fantastically pure, powerful and confident all mixed together. I remember a disclaimer sticker on the plastic wrapping on the album saying basically that if I didn’t like it, I could get my money back. I’ve never heard of or seen something like that on any other album since. I still have that album. Mr. Delp’s vocals will always be right up there with the best of them.
I still remember the first time I heard this song. My buddy had bought the album a couple weeks after its release and when he dropped the needle, we were transfixed. When Brad soared up to that high note (E6?) we could not believe our ears. He instantly became my favorite rock singer of all time.
Thank you so much for giving Brad his due. I saw Boston in Phoenix on the Third Stage tour, and he blew me away. Born in 1968, I grew up with all of the singers that you mentioned, and I love them all. Brad deserves to stand on that stage. I believe the others would have been intimidated.
I was 17 when this came out, I bought the 8-track for my car, later the cassette, then the album and finally the CD. This is the greatest rock debut album ever, period. Every song is a hit, I never get tired of listening to it. Brad Delp was one of a kind, never to be replaced, one of the best if not the best rock singer of all time.
I heard that Scholz timed the vibrato on the guitar, the keyboards with Brad's voice and backing vocals so they seamlessly matched as voices came in and went out. Heaven
I was a teenage guitar player when this album exploded on Bay Area AOR stations. The sound & production was something we never heard before. Tom Sholtz - genius. They got so big, so fast that Journey cancelled their headline gig at Winterland SF with Boston opening. Boston played headline and sold out Winterland. After they played the whole album, the crowd wanted an encore, they had no more materiel so played More Than Feeling again! They rocked Winterland like veterans. Of course I was there. Great memories! Seen them several times since and always a great show. RIP Brad Delp, long live Boston ♫ Winterland ruled. thank you Bill Graham ♪

OMG, what a great tribute to the BEST voice in rock music! The first time I heard this song it was almost a religious experience. Brad's voice hit notes I did not think humans could hit and did so with passion and soul. In terms of power and passion, I believe Brad Delp is the GOAT for rock. I could never understand how a talent like that could be so passed over and unrecognized. I am glad to see some recognition at last! ! still mourn his passing, but am ever so grateful for those awesome moments he gave us!

One detail about this Boston song that you didn't cover: At that high note point, Brad is also singing harmony with himself in the background. The background note is EVEN HIGHER! I believe it's a fifth higher. That is what is the most amazing.

Brad Delp wasn’t flashy, and so you really have to appreciate vocals to recognize how unbelievably brilliant he was. Yep, he was phenomenal.
As for his death, I think back to the first time hearing Kix's Don't Close Your Eyes, after the filming of the Midnight Dynamite video, and how the message that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem was so profound. Having lost people who were close to me to suicide, I wish more people could be helped and not end it all. I still would love for you to talk to Kix's Steve Whiteman (talk about another underrated voice) and cover that song especially. Its message is so critical when people get depressed and have thoughts of suicide.

From the first time I heard their debut album back in ‘76 (I was 11 years old) I was mesmerized by Brad’s voice. 47 years later nothing has changed. He’s still my favorite vocalist of all time. And I love all the singers the Professor of Rock compared him too. But Brad’s pure power and effortless range tops them all. And still does today. It was a dark day when I found out he took his own life back in 2007. But I’m thankful I got to see him and Boston perform at the Fabulous Forum back in 1985. Geez...never thought of Brad Delp as the greatest singer but his voice, the Boston sound, Tom Scholz writing...all came together to produce wonderful albums. Brad's soaring voice along with the strings/guitar created an absolutely mesmerizing story. Such a sad ending for such a talented man. Every time someone says he's a sad solitary man..I worry. So it was with him. Thanks for reminding us of Brad Delp's wonderful voice in a wonderful song.

An incredible artist....no way anyone can cover that song and do it justice. was in high school when it was released, had friends from France visiting over the Summer....they bought a dozen albums to take home....it was a major hit in Bordeaux and the rest of France.
