I had the biggest grin watching this, Neil! Seeing all these like-minded folks just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company, that’s what it’s about. Truly the kind of museum/hangout space I’ve dreamed of seeing for years, it reminds me of a more permanent version of the Vintage Computer Festivals we have here. It’s always like that where the first hours consist of hanging out and chatting, before finally breaking off into smaller groups and playing with the various machines. It’s absolutely a goal of mine to visit someday, soon as scheduling works out for everything and I can finally make my way overseas again.
It's surprising that so many of us enjoy the "visiting a game shop"-type experience that enthusiastically. Then again, I think stores employed some very clever marketing techniques to draw us in, and then take us for all we are worth lol! At least that can't happen here 😉
I'm not surprised that Neil failed to realize that number one attraction in The Cave is him! Having a chat with man that made The Cave happen, that's the part of visiting I'm most looking forward to. That and bringing a few retro gifts from Canada. Well done, Neil!
I couldn't have conceived when I first subscribed to the channel all those years ago that this would be the result, and I'm so happy for you Neil. It's a real achievement - even half of what you have created would be amazing, and you're not even done yet! Well done sir!
@@kevinwiltshire1455 lol you can literally hear me start a sentence and then ... just ... fall ... silent. Joe was amazingly eloquent. Amazing day, and amazing space, so glad to have met everyone and boggle at how tall Neil actually is - he looks so diddy on my monitor!
Hi Neil, congratulations on opening the cave, I can't wait to visit! Not sure if you collect or display books about retro tech, but I'd be happy to donate a copy of my out-of-print book, Digital Retro, all about the rise and fall of home computers in the 80's! I used to write a retro column about these old systems for PCW magazine, so rewrote and compiled them in a coffee-table format for this book. Also looking forward to batch three of your Mister Multisystem...
I can’t even begin to express my total admiration (and envy). To think that this entire project has gone from zero to world-class exhibition in such a short space of time is mind-blowing. The dreams of every kid from the 80s is now a place that everyone can visit and enjoy in real life.
The sheer amount of planning, the attention to detail, the passion, and I'm sure the blood, sweat, and tears has got to be huge. It's been amazing watching you put this all together over the past year as most of us have been home from covid. Congratulation you and telling you job well done just doesn't seem to do justice to it all. But without any other words to say, excellent job, Neil!
RMC was once Retro Man Cave, but now you are the RMC- Retro Museum Chap. If I ever am able to visit the UK someday, this will for sure be one of my stops.
With absolutely no hyperbole or facetiousness... I'm pretty sure I'd burst into tears walking through that door. It's just wonderful and beautiful. You've created something absolutely unique and amazing, Neil.
Neil is a treasure in the retro community -- he's a hidden gem! Can't wait till I can make it to that part of the world. Great seeing all the cave dwellers meet up and enjoy gaming together like this!
I am a huge fan of you and your channel Neil and your passion to everything retro gaming is infectious. I have been watching with a keen interest and have loved all the videos charting the progress of the Cave. It's been so much fun and you really do engage with your audience and are clearly passionate and devoted to the subject matter. I would like to congratulate you on this magnificent homage to all that is computing and retro gaming it really does look like a fantastic space. This really does tick all my nostalgic boxes and I can't wait to visit the space. I am genuinly looking forward to coming along, perhaps a birthday treat is in order?
I can't believe how far you've come since I watched your wash an old Amiga, in a pair of Marigolds; I'm only in Edinburgh (Liverpool exile), but visiting seems like a distant dream for a few reasons at the minute; I love what you've done, am proud to have supported it via views, patreon and kick-starter - thanks for all the entertainment and everything else; you truly are the definition of a gent. I wish you every good fortune fella.
So happy The Cave is finally open!~ Such a journey Neil - so happy you shared all of it! Well, if I get to visit the UK in my lifetime The Cave is definitely up there on my list of places I have to visit. Cheers and CONGRATZ!!!~
I rarely (if ever) comment on TH-cam videos, but this one just has me in awe of how much hard work, care, and passion went into this build! Thank you for preserving this important part of our history in such a unique and hands-on form. New life goal... visit The Cave! ;)
As one of the chosen few who experienced the first public day in the cave, I can only echo your comment at the end of the video: It couldn't have gone any better. It was a really good day and I can guarantee I'll be back - one day is not enough to fit everything in! For those yet to visit in person - the cave is just as exciting as it looks on video and, more than that, is just a very nice place to be. Thanks to Neil and all of his helpers on the day. It was definitely a worthwhile investment! :)
With the current COVID situation, it won't happen, but I really wanted to be the first Yankee in the Cave. The video did give me something I don't get often, and that's a smile. Very happy for everyone that got to meet up and explore!
The mention of Input magazine sparked a memory that I had truly long forgotten and never thought of since. I bought that mag back then for quite a while and it was great. My parents must have disposed of my copies as I sadly don't have any now. Good memories. I need to practice my Galaxian skills for a future visit. Not that I was ever great at it, but I always liked it. A collection of 10p pieces from my paper round helped a lot to continue play. That and 3D tank battle or Defender. All tough games for me back then.
One thing that might help improve the nostalgia of the shop a little more might be a small book shelf or rack with the kinds of books that someone might have bought at the time: maybe a book on DOS, programming the C64, maybe a book with BASIC programs that someone would type in, etc.
There is a bookcase dedicated to this with old manuals and books like “50 games for your Oric-1”, it’s in the library area but set away from the magazines
When I finally make the trip from Australia over to the UK, you can bet I'll be coming over for a gander. Congratulations on an incredible achievement. One of a kind!
Most of these machines are older than what I am interested in but I see The Cave is only 65 miles away so I really need to book a slot and come up to have a play around!
Due to be there Easter weekend and can’t put into words how much I’m looking forward to it. What you’ve created is just awesome! And just being able to visit is going to be incredible.
Neil this is all truly outstanding. Watching it all happen from the old original cave to the new expansive cave has been a wonderful journey. This vid was great too see and also hear the reactions on cave dwellers first views. It is incredible how far it has all came. Excellent. I can't wait to visit. I'm sure i will be awe as well as I am remotely already.
Fantastic Neil the Cave has brought me back to a time that I felt good about so much going on less complications My mum and dad were alive and I was a kid who could enjoy every day.
Been listening to your pod for a while now and finally decided to look “The Cave” up. Wow. I didn't expect this - it's huge! Just wish I was closer, would love to visit some day!
While I almost definitely will never make it to see the cave, I have a huge amount of respect for the work you've put into this. This is like the ultimate thing you could do to give back to your fans and the retro gaming community. It takes one hell of a special person to not only want to do something like this, but also follow through on it. You and everyone involved in this are awesome human beings. Now you just need to open one in the US so I can visit 🤣
Great to see your hard work appreciated. My wife has family close by so next time we come back to Blighty (from Japan) I would love to come and show my son some of the old games I used to play... I am surprised how emotional it makes me just thinking about the old Amiga games, among others...
Seeing this made my day. I've been collecting retro computers for more than thirty years and have always had the dream of a museum type location with an arcade. It makes very happy to live through you actually accomplishing this for yourself. I may have to visit some day when in your part of the world.
So so awesome! It’s so encouraging to see a regular chap like ourselves find their own success throughout these last few years. A beacon of light in the darkness. Great job!!!
So exciting. It's been thrilling to watch this come together over the past year through your videos, Neil. Growing up I was always a generation behind as a "car boot sale" kid. It had benefits then cause everything was cheap, but I've always loved that it gave me a greater depth of experience than my peers. I started with the 2600, on through the Spectrum +2A/2B, Atari ST and my great love, the A1200, while my friends were farting around with PCs. There is so much I spot in the cave that sparks my nostalgia. I live in Vietnam, and in the next year I need to bring my wife back to meet the family, long delayed because of covid, but really I am most desperate to come visit the cave! Not sure how jazzed she will be about it. Can't wait to pull out those drawers and count the disks and tapes I had, and delve into the issues of CU Amiga, ST and Amiga Format that I pored over repeatedly as a nerdy youth!
I'm is just gobsmacked, can't wait to visit, watching from Norway here, hoping to be able to visit the cave this summer. and also to have a chat! the cave looks brilliant, and i have to say super professional, you really have a great talent for this! like some others have commented been grinning all through the episode! keep up the good work, it's really impressive and inspiring!
The Cave looks so amazing and I love how far everything's come over the many years I've been watching your channel. Someday I hope to make it out to the UK and pay you a visit.
So even though I'm not in your country -- or even on your continent! -- this is intriguing enough that I would love to drop in on this and gives me enough reason to finally get to the UK. Greets from the US!
I love your idea of a retrospective of all the different caves... where it all started to where it is today. What a journey, and thank you for including us along the way. This is such an incredible achievement and may it continue to be a success well into the future. Hopefully I'll see it in person someday.
Congratulations Neil. What a journey it’s been from inception to reality. Can’t wait to visit soon when I come home for a trip to the UK from all the way Dubai
Neil you have done such a great job with the Cave, this is a dream space for anyone who loves retro gaming and computers. Such a great job, I wish we had a space like this here in Melbourne, Australia.
I would love to visit The Cave someday myself, but distance is my barrier because the Atlantic Ocean is between here and there, unfortunately. I would like to be one of those that get the surreal feeling of being there with the machines and other things that I have only seen through a screen. Cheers, Neil and everyone else for all the hard work you all have put in to the museum and please keep it going until I can get there.
What a fun video and the retro man cave is so cool. I'm glad lots of people had fun and enjoying themselves. I wish I had a place like this to see in the US.
Congrats on your grand opening. I'm in the U.S. so it's very doubtful that I will ever have the chance to go there myself. I'm jealous! You've done a great job making a nice place for us computer geeks to hang out and learn.
Really good job to all involved, looking forward to visiting one day. How do you not get overwhelmed by all the hardware, software and peripherals you have to manage? The mind boggles.
Seeing the smiles as they entered the Museum was great to see. Glad they enjoyed it as much as we do from our computers. Hopefully it slows down so you can take a step back and assess everything and enjoy it yourself, Neil. Your team built a wonderful space that I cannot wait to come see sometime.
Mega congratulations to you Neil for getting to the end of this journey. The Cave looks absolutely amazing. I don't know when I'll have a need/the money to make a trip to the UK but I really hope I have the ability to make a visit some day. Just watching this brings back so many incredible retro memories for me. Cheers!
Well done Neil and all who have helped to achieve this awesome cave, im certainly going to book a visit, what an adventure this has been, enjoyed watching this come to fruition over the past year or so, well done to all involved ,
Having watched the cave being built, I'm almost as eager to see people's reaction as you are. Please keep showing some open days, it's vicariously satisfying. Plus, i live in Thailand, so it's a little difficult to visit myself.
You have really achieved something amazing here with the cave and the fact it's still evolving! Looking to organise a reunion of family and friends and hopefully make a visit to the cave part of that!
Amazing work Neil!! I’ve watched so many of your videos starting from you cleaning up an old A500 to this! How far you’ve come! I would love to visit one day! Congratulations on an epic achievement mate
I worked in PCWorld in tbe summer of 96 and probably shrink wrapped some of those boxes the first time round! The Cave looks absolutely amazing, I'm hoping to visit one day!
Now THAT's a space! Random tip: If you find any of those wooden drawers are binding, remove each one and run a candle over the runners! Just a tip I leaned years ago, as I used to use a set of old dressers to store all of my boxed games. They were forever getting stuck! Anyway, fantastic work! 🕹
This looks impressive Neil! Congratulations. Amazing effort and execution! ... and BTW Wow! and EXTRA! points for polish magazine Komputer - spotted around 8:20-8:40 I hope to visit your Cave maybe even this summer as I plan to be in UK for some time. All the best!
It was nice to see the place this weekend as well as Neil and the many excellent volunteers too that helped make this place possible. We'll visit again soon (once you bring out a Vic and a Archimedes maybe :-). Good luck in making a enterprise 64 a 128, I tried to do this myself but it is 'complicated' if indeed possible at all, as there are some revisions between the two machines 🙂. If you do get there however, the 128 is supported and has loads of software.
Would love to visit at some stage, I was lucky enough to grow up in the family business Arcade/Console shop/video shop. Still have an original SEGA display cabinet in the shop to this day, although there's nothing else left. We even used to have an original SPACE INVADERS desk in the house for many years! Massively regret selling that!
Amazing video! I have been watching you since the beginning and see how this has turned into something wonderful from an idea. Something I wish John Hancock did over here in the USA but nothing came of it - Once the world is in a bit better place with the viruses and the economy I'm going to plan a trip to your side of the world and visit this wonderful museum for the day. :)
It's looking absolutely fantastic Neil, now, next project: I need you to make some sort of "Library bus" style Cave that can travel to me, and mostly just park outside my house. I will happily buy one colouring book to pay for this.
This was so awesome to see, finally you got it all done and got people in there, i am so much hoping that i can come there some day, i love your video's. Awesome work you have done.
One interesting touch for the fake shop would be to exterior metal and glass door with a push bar handle that has some VISA/Mastercard stickers on it. As well as a vinyl logo and some kind of bell or chimes when the door is opened.
One thing to note: a good piece of signage if you havent done so in the shop is for the barcode scanner to remind people that the boxes with dots are scannable and it reminded me of this certain line in the halo 2 or halo 3 odst manual that said "see the dot? Take the shot! (Referring to lighting up a headshot)" And i thought of something similar: "see the dot? Scan the box!". And it would show a box of varying sizes with a dot on it in the location of where they are generally placed on the box
Wow, I do hope I can visit some day. The UK is not so far away. :) I have to say I love the signage you put up - very nicely designed. Really professional look.

Neil you have done such a great job with the Cave, this is a dream space for anyone who loves retro gaming and computers. Such a great job, I wish we had a space like this here in Melbourne, Australia.
This is just amazing work. It was quite the journey to get to this point and was great fun as an outsider to observe "Cave Evolution" :).
Awesome news Neil and quite the achievement. I'll certainly be visiting.
*From Brazil* - O U T S T A N D I N G ! ♥
Making my way overseas to pay you a visit, such a dream!
Top work Neil, it’s great to see the Galaxian getting love and hope it behaving itself now.
Looking forward to booking a visit in the summer👍
I'm so happy for you Neil, this is brilliant. As mentioned in a comment a while back, I'll be sure to visit if/when I'm ever in the UK again :)
Absolutely brilliant. Itching to visit from the USA.
Mega congratulations to you Neil for getting to the end of this journey. The Cave looks absolutely amazing. I don't know when I'll have a need/the money to make a trip to the UK but I really hope I have the ability to make a visit some day. Just watching this brings back so many incredible retro memories for me. Cheers!
Congratulations.
So fantastic to see people finally enjoying the cave. Hope to do it some day.
Well done very proud of you bringing back the Retro thing I will be visiting soon good luck
Congratulations on getting the cave up and running, this is a big milestone. Well done! Hopefully this is just the start.
That was a wonderful watch. I'm happy it all went so smoothly! One day I'll bring a friend and we'll travel from Norway to visit the cave for sure! :D
I'm in tears of joy for all this achievement! I hope someday I can visit the Cave! The best of success to all the retrogaming community!
Great job on the space. If I'm ever in the UK, I'd like to visit the cave.
Congratulations Neil. Its such a lovely space you and your team have made. Thank you for all the hard work.
You’ve created something very special here, wishing you every success 🎮
This looks impressive Neil! Congratulations. Amazing effort and execution! ... and BTW Wow! and EXTRA! points for polish magazine Komputer - spotted around 8:20-8:40
I hope to visit your Cave maybe even this summer as I plan to be in UK for some time. All the best!
So much great work! Wish you all the best luck in the world!!!
This is so heart warming! I wish you RMC the very best opening! Lots of love from Sweden
It's a credit to you and everyone involved. It looks perfect and will bring fun and pleasure to many I'm sure. Congratulations. 🎉
Thank you Pauline
Congrats Neill!!! Greetings from Argentina.
You should feel very proud of yourself Neil, congratulations.
I have to say I love the signage you put up - very nicely designed. Really professional look.
Congratulations on your Grand Opening, Neil! It’s an amazing space you’ve created and curated.
Congrats on The Cave, Neil! It's on my ever-growing list of places I want to visit when I eventually make it over to the UK.
