      Some great cabs there. I didn't see Polybius tho! 😂. A few that I would like to see would be Kung Fu Master, Rolling Thunder, Bombjack, Dragons Lair. Great selection so far Neil. I think if and when I visit it will be Gauntlet II and Starwars for me.... Green Elf your life force is running out.... Love it. Kudos to all involved. Great stuff!

    Might want to add QR codes above each cabinet, that would take them to a webpage with a history of the specific cabinet. This would also allow us in the states or other countries that might not be able to see them in person to surf through your website and see all that information / help add to it. Great work!!

    For the music Neil I think you need to pay for a prs licence but that should enable it for the cave aswell as the arcade seems its one building edit just looked £621 per year to be able to play licensed music in an arcade setting

    • @ryoga-hibiki
      @ryoga-hibiki ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is correct. A PRS license is needed to be able to play licensed music in a public place.

      @@ryoga-hibikiit is a ppl prs license now. However not everything will be licenced by them so you need to double check what you play is actually covered, some music might require other licences. This is what the government website says anyway.

It will be on my wish list for sure along with the Cave. Hats off to Alex for all the hard work and good luck on his venture right now. The whole aesthetic seems really...cold for an arcade. The dark, neon-lit, arcade vibe just doesn't seem to be there. The weird white stone walls make it feel like an arcade built in inside an brightly painted old well.
    Some real neon (not LED strips), black lights, proper arcade carpet, colored stripes on the walls, an old coke machine, food, and some music would go a long way to set the mood. It's hard to tell on the video , but the room also sounds a echoey with all the hard surfaces. Some sound treatment panels might help too.

    I could not look away. WOW. All the work you have already put into the place and now this amazing job you've all done in making an amazing looking arcade! I grew up in a few arcades to the point where the owners were good friends of my parents. I got to play basically everything that came through the "Wizards Arcade" in California just down the street from Disneyland (my old stomping grounds). I saw so many amazing cabs I have played in my life in your arcade and a few I always wished I could have tried. Living in Nevada makes it difficult to visit but man, if I lived nearby I wouldn't just visit, I would hike up the sleeves, toss on some gloves and help out! LOVE IT

    My "Cave" is half dozen cabs and assorted pinball and table units. W/ marquees on, I've found floor lighting is all I need. (Not a public space) I've installed repurposed cinema floor runner lights and they are more than sufficient with marquees lighted.

    Great Arcade Archive! This really reminds me of the 80's when i played the in the arcades. My dream place was covered with smoke, Neon Lights, Red-LED Clocks, matrix scroll displays. Empty beer bottles and soda cans were spread all over the place. There were movie-posters from the 80's Action Stars. And of course the noise level of the people and the machines. Amazing work and congrats to you all who made this miracle possible. This would be a good place for future world game tournaments :)

    One minor nitpick: Galaxian isn't the first colour arcade game. Or the first with a colour screen. It isn't even the first one to use multicolour sprites.
    Sure, before Galaxian, they mostly stuck colour overlays on top of B&W screens, but there were colour, sometimes even full colour games made before Galaxians. Like Model Racing's Super Road Champions (1978) which even uses multicolour sprites just like Galaxian, or if you go back even further, in 1974 there was Nutting Associates' Wimbledon.
    I just don't understand why there wasn't a limited edition Color Tank (Kee Games 1974). The machine has (pretty much) all the hardware to pull it off, I modded one!

    • @TheArcadeArchive
      @TheArcadeArchive ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve just looked up model racing super road champions and I’ve never heard of that game before looks very cool.
      I’m sure in this period there are many games that were made from less unknown company’s that were firsts.
      But most of them didn’t even get past the prototype stage or just didn’t sell well at all.
      Having researched this game I can’t see any one on klov owning one or any documentation on Ukvac.
      Very interesting to see a challenger to Namco Galaxian first colour game.

      @@TheArcadeArchive The music video to Nazareth's Holiday has lots of footage from Super Road Champions. That came in handy trying to fix ours (at the Flipper and Arcade Museum Seligenstadt Germany). I was ripping my hair out trying to get the VCO for the pseudo 3D car sprites to work. The cars should become larger as they move down the road. They do on the predecessor! Turns out, it was broken by design. Nazareth's machine does the same thing.
      (the VCO actually works fine, it's just adjusted that you barely even see its effect)

    I'm not sure if this would be cost efficient but I have seen digital frames you can use which would project messages on cheap LCD mini screens.
    It would allow for scrolling text, no limitation on the amount of information and give off that retro vibe.
    If they are cheap then I think it might work wonders when the arcade is in the dark.

    I would go easy on any music - if done right you should get that proper arcade cacaphony that fills the air and draws you inside without the need for anything else. What you might want to do is have some kind of random distant sound effects from other non-present games and from fairground rides like tea-cups and rollercoasters and haunted house and announcers calling you out to enter this or that wonder of the world you should pay to come inside and see. Though I do worry about the acoustics of the rooms; it might give you a bit of work to get it under control.

    To give it an authentic feel you need to chain smoke a load of cigs and chew gum, then squash the gum into the floor, dot the cig butts out on the machines and floor, oh! And spill some drinks while you’re at it😖
    😝👍

    Snack/Drink-Machines would be 80s too. (Don't forget Irn-Bru! 😉😁) But what would be even better, but unfortunately also takes up a lot of space: Air Hockey !

      I did suggest converting GunFight into an air hockey table but for some reason Alex didn't like that idea :D

    Air conditioning, no natural sunlight and loads of colourful lighting... sounds like arcade heaven tbh!
