Hope you're all doing well! I'm trying my best to clip the best moments from the weekly livestream.
If you have any feedback let me know!

I think remakes are fine if they are legitimate full-on remakes, rather than just upscaling graphics. If you spent the same effort for a full game on your remake then you deserve a nomination if it was very well-received.
Expansions and DLC however, I think deserve their own category but not GOTY contender. Think an MMO expansion. They have hundreds of hours of new content, zones, raids, and dungeons and often a new class or two, but they take MUCH less effort to create since the base core of design, art and features are already there. However, since many DLC packs and expansions are very extensive, such as Elden Ring, they should get some kudos for existing. Elden Ring, Stardew Valley, FFXIV DawnTrail, Diablo Vessel of Hatred, Destiny 2, etc etc... so much this year.
Edit: I disagree that awards are only to drive up sales. Would you say the same thing about the Academy awards, Grammys, or Oscars? What about awards in non-entertainment categories like Nobel Prizes? I don't think anyone bought more insulin when Banting and Macleod got awarded for it's discovery. Nah, the only part that drives sales in the GOTY are the ads and announcements that have taken over 90% of air time, the rest is more just a celebration of the studios themselves and innovation as well as fan service.

wasn't astro bot a rerelease of a game that already came out ages ago, also? I don't know what it's doing up there. Balatro's definitely not game of the year material. It's just a fad meme game that I hardly ever hear about. Yeah, totally game of the year.

No, that's not the case. But I understand your confusion since all of the Astro titles have pretty similar names.
