ohnochuck I know that lol..I'm just referring to The Sopranos as a brilliantly written show that is on par with both Deadwood And Justified that Tim has both starred on.
Uhm, Some of you guy's don't seem to under stand the "Two of the best written" part of my statement. Pretty much leaves open that deadwood and Justified aren't the only two in the category. Also, like people are pointing out Olyphant weren't in those other shows.
Honestly, Deadwood was & still is absolute peak television. The characters, the plot, the set, the attention to detail, the drama... Its beyond anything else. I've not seen the film yet but I am SO excited!
I've had the Deadwood movie saved for years, but wasn't going to watch it until re-watching the show (for the first time since it aired, it's been so long, I'd forgotten much). It knocks the modern 'prestige' shows out of the water. So often with recent shows I'm baffled at why people act the way they are, sometimes which side they're on, what their motivations are, and of course the tedious habit of giving each and every backstory a tragic backstory (the problem being they make them EXPLICIT instead of implicit). Watching Deadwood, it's incredible that so much is implied or hinted/alluded, there's a respect for the audience that's missing so often now. It says a lot that Deadwood can throw dialog at us so complex that often you don't even know exactly what is being said, but you're never confused as to why a given character does what they do. Try watching 'wheel of time' or 'the witcher' and say as much, or, god forbid, the execrable 'game of thrones'. Oh great, more banal dialog where people sit & talk like a bunch of account managers in a second hand car dealership. Yawn. Flipping great to finally be able to rewatch the show, knowing there's a movie at the end that doesn't leave us hanging. Bravo Mr. Milch, and damnation upon the HBO galaxy brains who canned this.
Well put. Although the movie didn't have nearly enough time to do the old show justice in any way. That just wasn't possible in only 105 minutes. Even for Milch 🙁
The guy (Drunk Number Two) yelling in the street is played by Garret Dillahunt who already played 2 other characters in the series (Francis Wolcott and Jack McCall).
Tim seems like the most laid back chill person to ever hang out with. I dont know that I've ever seen a celebrity do more interviews in flip flops as this guy. Great actor, cant wait to see future projects.
When Tim talks about the "extra" who says "I hope you die in the street, just like my dad did", I'm surprised he didn't reveal that the "extra" who says that line is actually a cameo appearance by none other than Garret Dillahunt, who played both The Coward Jack McCall and Francis Wolcott in the original series.
Dayton Callie's Charlie Utter is like a quiet backbone. Trying to go about his business with no fuss, trying to create a kind of pension fund for Bill Hickok with no fuss, but always there when good needed doing.
Nx Doyle He was always the one willing to tell Hearst exactly how he thought of him. The actor went on to have a great role on Sons of Anarchy, with some of the best, subtle character work I’ve seen.
One of the top ten shows of all time. Great writing. I found the use of language in it almost shakespearian. Yet it still worked seamlessly. The characters were all memorable. Of course the chemistry between the actors was obvious. Great show.
Never have seen anything like this show. I'm sad for those who have never seen it. Finally we are out of our 13 year pergatory. Love Olyphant and McShane and Milch et al. What an amazing movie after our long drought. I would love another one. And then one after that.

I'm so glad that they finally put a nail in Deadwood's coffin. I was unemployed after an accident for about a year, and through the course of the year I think I watch Deadwood from front to back at least three times.
2:30 the “extra” he is referring to is Garret Dillahunt who is uncredited AFAIK. But I think it’s great he got to come back to Deadwood!! (Even for a brief moment)
When watching I had to replay that scene because I recognized the voice and eyes of that extra. I knew it was the murderer of Bill but I didn't know his real name or character name. Awesome that he was brought back into this movie because he was such a great side story to the series.
The show was one of my like top 3 all time favorites and I was sooo frustrated it ended the way it did, I was so excited to learn they were making a movie of it and seriously it was great! You guys killed it seriously!
And the guy in the street who said "like my dad did" was the same actor Garret Dillionhunt who played Wild Bills killer in the original show. I noticed that the night it came out.
Seriously? Dillahunt is an amazing actor. If you didn't know, he was recast in "Deadwood" in season 2 as the weirdo prostitute killer who worked for Hearst. It's only fitting that he'd cameo in the new flick. Surprising that Olyphant didn't mention that it was him as Dillahunt also had a good role in the last season of "Justified".
I hope they release a good behind the scenes documentary on this movie. I want to see how things came together, the cast reuniting for the first time in 13 years. I am sure everyone was pretty emotional and in awe when these amazing actors and actresses stepped back into these characters. Seeing Ian and Timothy in costume likely gave people chills like when Han and Chewie stepped on set on the Millennium Falcon again. Something nobody thought would ever happen again. Al Swearengen is one of the greatest characters/villains ever.
Yes, and how did Tim not know this? Dillahunt is another phenomenal actor, and a major player since the beginning of the series. They had many pivotal scenes together!
Rarely the consistency and intricacy in a show with so many characters interacting and all makes sense like organic organs. It is the best show on my list once I saw it the first time and never ever got exceeded. Well, getting close yes, like Friday Night Lights and The Sopranos but the language in Deadwood is second to none

I was a little disappointed they killed off Charlie Utter. They were pretty good at maintaining historical accuracy, but Utter didn't die until 1912.

Agreed. The movie was fantastic, but when it got to the end, it was like re-opening an old wound. I remember how I felt when the series was cancelled. Heartbreaking. @2:28 I swear to god they cast Garret Dillahunt just to say that one line, calling back to his own role on Deadwood as Cowardly Jack McCall who shot Wild Bill. Either that or someone had a jaw a lot like Dillahunt's for that 5 seconds on screen. 100% right about the characters and their presence to the audience. Miiiilch!
